Symposium & work moving forwards ...
Following my exhibition Sense of Identity, I’ve continued to look at Portraiture but not in the conventional sense - Using paper and digital printing I am still pursuing experimenting with imagery , size and scale. Some of the work has become more abstracted whilst others more definitive to allowing the viewer to create there own connection and perception of landscape.
Sense of Identity
My recent exhibition at Hertfordshire University was an opportunity to demonstrate how my work has progressed during my time on the MA . Curating my own exhibition gave a small insight to the work and structure behind such a venture , which has served as a positive aspect in both my attitude and thoughts towards my own practice . Sense of Identity is an exhibition comprised of film , sculpture , drawing , and installation. It is one that shows versatility to ways of working in different mediums . I knew very early on that I am an artist who does not want to be confined to one particular way or method of working, or indeed to be pigeoned holed into being a certain type of artist . I embrace change , and am continually striving to learn new methodologies , pushing both myself and the boundaries of my practice . Continual development is an aspect of critical importance to any artist and is something I adhere to within my own practice . .

Looking at Portraiture & the Invisible History of an Individual .
My continued interest with the temporary aspect of sculpture and the impermanence nature of issues is indeed firmly rooted into certain aspects of my practice, taking me to starting points for bodies of work , which investigate transience and the nature of unpredictability. The body of work portraying themes of portraiture and the invisible histories of an individual, is where my research has taken me to. I have chosen paper as my medium to host the layers which will make the individuals profile, experimenting how it reacts when used as a vehicle for this, however I am not ruling out both fabric and acrylic as additional possible hosts .
Paper & fabric I feel maybe better suited with their affiliation with the sense of touch & other qualities that contribute to the essence of skin. Under pinning this body of work is a desire to look beyond the surface of individuals, to uncover their existence , their actual being - the invisible makeup of themselves.

Learning to Understand the Beauty in temporary Sculpture
I have been working in this freer way during the summer , & enjoying the results within my practice . I previously mentioned because of my affinity to working in metals & other such materials I was struggling to appreciate and equate the same value & worth when working with the more readily available sources of paper cardboard and other materials . I have began to appreciate the beauty & fragility associated with the materials and feel that particularly with some of the new body of my work they are most applicable . Looking at the work of Christo has helped to give me a clearer understanding and fuller appreciation of it .

Symposium & beyond ....
Just finished my first symposium …. I discussed where my practice currently is , how I’m being influenced and where for the immediate future my work is heading . I’ve been working in a variety of mixed mediums that are more readily available .. A new experience for me as prior to this I have always moved from concept drawings to metal . I’ve found the experience invigorating and exciting . This new way of working has allowed me to be much freer not only with my thought process and line of thinking , but also how I have created each sculpture . I have been able to work back into each sculpture with relative ease …. Changing the very essence of each piece when & where I have wanted to - Again something that is much harder to do in metal … Even if at all possible - The varying processes that go into the construction of any metal form , is a lengthy one , and relatively labour intensive , so the idea of altering a metal form , brings its own complications , if at all possible - invariably you would need to begin again - The spontaneity of working in this way is infectious … Although I have to admit that always somewhere in my mind , I am working out how I would translate each of these sculptures into metals . The very permanence of metal is something that I love , and I feel saddened that sculptures created from materials that do not hold those permanent qualities, that perhaps have less sustainability … Do not hold the same level of adoration for me …. I think I will always want to translate into a metal of some form … There are two subjects that I am exploring and expressing through my work . Paraesthesia is the first body of work I have been experimenting with -
This is the medical name given to the abnormal symptom experienced by those who have suffered nerve damage , with the symptoms being typically a burning sensation or pin pricking felt both on and within the skin . The second body of work is based on Synkinesis . This is a direct result of chronic nerve damage and occurs in the face - The symptoms are of unwavering bands of tightness coupled with the puckering up of the muscles, resulting in the differing degrees of severity where the face becomes lop sided .
