Beyblade Metal Friday: Beyblade Metal Fight from an Astrological perspective: The Zodiac signs! Part 1: Aries and Hyoma!
Hello my Beyblade Metal fighters and astrology and star-lovers! I am Star-Arcana and my goal is to make an analysis on the Bladers from Beyblade based on how accurate their personality and Bey is to their zodiac sign!
This time, we will deal with the first sign of the zodiac wheel and the first friend of Gingka Hagane: Hyoma and Aries!
Aries the Cardinal Fire Sign
Aries is the first of the Zodiac signs and fittingly the be the first one to take action. As Cardinal sign, they initiate change and start new things, but also are restless and even hasty.
Aries also belongs to a group known as Fire Fire sign, that means they tend to have a lot Spontaneous and impulsive behaviors as they are passionate, but very fiery. They have a quick emotional responses and have a lively imagination.
Aries is VERY action-oriented, quick, bold, courageous, energetic, direct and VERY passionate. Aries People like taking the lead, and make for natural leaders, as they motivate and inspire others with their risk-taking and ambitious drives to do anything.
Driven and set on their goals with the ambition to win, there is almost nothing stops them from going after their passions, and they very much love competition. Either physically in sports or battling, or just simply during jobs and any hobby, even in matters more personal like self-improvement. They can be pretty creative and innovative with their quick and sharp minds, as they make great pioneers and innovators of many things due to this.
They come with high energy in all stuff they like, and want them quick and fast, AND on their own terms.
Fiercely independant, and very assertive in anything in life, they are very strong-willed and steadfast individuals making their own ways and path, as well as leading their own direction.
They also would immiediately help others when in need very quickly, like standing up to others when attacked and even for others, like an underdog for instance. Or if someoe hurts innocent people they are willingly to fight zealously and do this even if risking making enemies of others. They leave nothing unadressed and if they have trouble with someone, they will let them know immiediately.
But they are also very child-like in their innocnet sometimes and very excitable and make no secret of this, they show very direct and openly how they feel and love adventuring, and have a high amount of energy to do so and many other stuff that excites them. Headstrong and full of vitality, they pursue their goals with untold and impressive viligance and a bold, as well as fiery personality.
Aries however is also very impulsive, brash, aggressive, stubborn, egoistic, self-centered, inconsiderate of others, impatient, cruel, naive, and are REALLY belligerent and undiplomatic. Remember when I said Aries people are quick and action-oriented? Well Aries People also tend to not think things through, meaning they get into trouble with others more than what's good for them, and thus can make foolish and naive actions that will hurt them and others. They can be really egotistical and selfish, as they care more about what they want than others and don't like to compromise with others. They are stubborn, preffering instead everything going out on their terms and time, they are, again, undiplomatic.
Belligerent as they are, they love competition a little bit too much in turn, as they can become really competetive and very quickly, very angry, very rude even, leading to outbursts, shouts, conflicts and even fights, as well as wanting to outshine and outperform them as well. Their impatient nature makes them quickly bored with stuff they do not like and often move from one thing to the other, making them very active, but not always focused. Also they hate to be told what to do, and often ignore rules and only begrudgedly do they listen, even if rather childishly.
Aggressive and confrotational as they are, they make others really uncomfortable with their bluntness and direct attitude. Even If someone doesn't want it, they will force conflicts sometimes thinking they were attacked, and when having issues with someone and they wanna talk about, they rather aggressively confront this person. Stressed, irritable (when bored or frustrated) and often laser-focused on their goals and ambitions, they don't like it when others do not continue the path and they themselves can easily abandon the path, and make immiediately a new one, even if they cannot always make it work, due to their very energetic personality making them use very quickly their energies up and forcing them to retreat after exhausting themselves, like the risk-taking and brash fighters they are, which makes them very dangerous to themselves and others.
They are despite their hot-headed nature and their fiery impulsiveness really good friends to have around who inspire you, encourage you and help you very steadidly and come with quick and clever ideas, even if risky and being at times selfish and aggressive, they are very excitable and adventerous people. They might get very angry quick, but can forgive as easily as they can move very much into one thing, and then immiediately leave it. Basically very much passion guides them.
Despite their flaws, they can learn from them and be some of the most honest, direct and courageous people you can ever met, with a very warm heart. And despite being very fierce battlers, they can make fierce protectors too. Basically your typical Shounan Protagonist or Main Shonen Rival!
Mars; The Planetary Ruler!
The Planetary Ruler is basically where the sign feels most at home is and in reverse. For those who do not know Astrology and wanna know: If you know what a Planet is about, you most definitively figured out the Personality of the Zodiac sign they rule.
In this case, Mars is the Planetary Ruler of Aries, a planet that bolsters many of the qualities I mentioned before: Action, Motivation, Drive and the ability to do something, as well as how much energy you have. It is about will-power and self-assertion, passion and your fighting spirit. Basically your willingness to fight for something, but also representing your freedom of spontanous impulse as well as determination. But it also represents violence, and conflict, how you act upon finding yourself in a fight, as well as how aggressive you can be, thus it also is about the more dangerous parts of life and how angry and impulsive someone can be. Basically it is about the strenght you have to do the things you want to do and how you execute it, how and where you get your soure of motivation, what motivates you and how you accomplish and initiate it, the Spark to drive forwards, or in this case the Bey Spirit to fight.
In essense it gives you and Aries as it's ruler the strenght, weaknesses and personality to motivate yourself to pursue your goals and the drive you have. Aries is with this the go-getter and don't want to wait for life to be happening, they make them happen and overall, Mars is power and ambition, for good and worse, better or evil, Mars is home to Aries, the quickest to act and sharp with fast ideas, and while aggressive, stubborn and goal-oriented, it also is very honest, courageous and full of energy and power.
How Much does Hyoma fit with this?
Barely anything fits! Honestly? This guy Ryoma is one of the most calm, collected, reserved people out there and ultimately very much not-direct with his intentions and even battling stlye. The very first episodes introduced him to us as a machievellian, who hid his true goals and didn't even directly challenged anyone until forced. Even with his competetiveness and sudden loud and aggressive bursts, he was too passive aggressive for an Aries and even if we include his change of behavior during his battle with Reiji, it wouldn't count as this wasn't the result of competitiveness and brashness, but a decietful trick by Reiji and I wouldn't use this to point to him being an Aries. If he was, he would have immiediately tried to fight off Gingka's friends and make his intentions direct and clear, and would have more behaved like Masamune here.
If we focus on his battle in Green Hell, he might have had competitiveness, but that is a trademark of any blader and wasn't even impulsive or super passionate. He was always very cool and particular, losing to Gingka because the latter invented a new trick. If anything, Gingka beats him by using Aries energy by being rather quick and coming up with plans very fast. He charged headstrong into battle and did it, while also calculated, very creatively and inventive like an Aries, thus beating Hyoma ironically with the zodiac sign he represents here.
Also, his bey being defensive type makes it hard to make me see Hyoma as an authentic presentation of an Aries, because judging by what I described, it sounds more like someone with an attack bey more than anything.
Overall, he lacks that immense strong ambition, drive and passion to be comparable to Aries. He is rather defensive and not exactly that bold with his tactics (only occasionally) and rather non-direct with others. He is more like a Virgo that is rather particular, methological and intelligent, not like an Aries that is hot-heated, belligerent and super quick into action.
And I am not even sure if mythology was the inspiration for Hyoma, but I feel like even that is a mismatch, not a true Aries. Sorry, Hyoma, I love you, but you aren't really an Aries, not archetypically or even character wise
How would I change him to make Hyoma more Aries?
Just make him like King as a character. He is the Mars Legendary Blader anyway, which gives as planetary ruler of Aries already that sign's qualities of activeness, passion and competetiveness. King represents fittingly not just Mars, but also Aries as sign with this context and knowledge in mind and quite frankly, he is with this compensation enough and thus I headcanon him as Aries, as his hair already looks fluffy.
Masamune is also someone with more Aries qualities, and was already good enough as supporting character for Gingka to work as "best friend", as he is rather energetic, impulsive, fiery and very much a risk-taker, for better and worse. This would have been Hyoma, had they oriented more onto Aries qualities, basically Masamune. And speaking of him, I do really think now that if we view him as Aries representative, this makes his relationship with King all the more meaningful, he has the bey that rules over Aries, the Mars Bey Varyaries.
However with that said and done, I love Hyoma as a character and don't care that much about him not representing it Astrologically accurately, he is IMO goated and a cool support character and after all, there is no such thing as a perfect Aries or any sign within a human, we are all diffrent after all.
I am glad I could have made this post, now I feel spirited and passionate about this like Aries and learned today that if I want to get something done, I should do it immediately, but without tiring and exhausting myself! Energy needs to be used responsibly and Aries can teach us that we need passion and drive to make something work, lest nothing gets done! But today, the first part is finished and I am happy about it all!
Next time, we go to a sign that is a bit more grounded and stable, and reliable...but it involves a character...that is rather fun and kind of like the sign a bit possessive and stubborn. Especially when it comes to his most favorite thing! It's going to be Bu-Bu-Bu-bull-Taurus and Benkei!!!
