Conformity + Reactionary 'clean slate' paleogenesis = Projection onto other out groups. Feel better. Repeat.
Basically, you generally believe in social conformity and upholding it, but you simultaneously believe in order to do so, society needs to be 'reset' to a figurative 'good old days' which is a rebellious act and against your conformity. Then you feel bad and conflicted about yourself.
So you project this onto any outside group you believe is a source of this social/cultural 'degredation' as the source of your conflict. Afterwards, you start to have a pretty good feeling of self satisfaction, because you're not conflicted anymore. Now, you're not the problem. Someone else is.
The problem is with fascism, you're going to have to keep finding new 'outsiders'. Because someone else always has to be one, so you don't have to face your conflict with systemic issues and become aware that perhaps you share something in common with the 'others'.
