Looking for a House of the Dragon fanfiction on AO3. It was a modern AU inspired by The Old Guard. Aemond, Aegon and Daeron were immortals and kept their original names. There was also a female OC (possibly French) who became immortal after dying as a nurse during World War II. After her first death, she spent years hunting down former Nazis before eventually joining the immortal group. At the start of the story she was already part of the group, but they later separated and she went off on her own for a while. Alys Rivers was the main immortal antagonist. The fic was unfinished.
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: intimate-ish touches between neytiri and you (you guys are like a married couple), mention of multiple small holes
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: It’s Jake and Norms first link day, and as Grace is warming up to Jake, you are too (plus some really cute moments between you and Grace)
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞: i’ve now realized that this series is gonna be really really fucking long, especially since we were still at the beginning of the movie and also once again, I’m using the script on some scenes so if there’s a scene that you’re not familiar with in the movie, it’s because i’m using the script! ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION READERS LITTLE OXYGEN TANK FUCKKK, from now on it will be added🤗, this chapter is a little shitty since I kept forgetting to save the draft and simply gave up after like the 3rd time.
“Those savages are threatening our whole operation. We're on the brink of war and you're supposed to be finding a diplomatic solution. So use what you've got and get me some results.” Savages? Is he serious? Grace knows that all they want to do is protect their home, she hopes and prays that there’s a vacant spot somewhere out there, they’ve only explored about 10% of the entire planet, there had to be somewhere out there with the exact same rock. the Omatikaya shouldn’t have to suffer because of the humans pure greed.

It’s early the next morning, your body is wildly stretched across your woven hammock. As you open your eyes, the bright morning sky blinds you and you squeeze your eyes shut and groan before turning to face the hammock beside you, Neytiri’s. She was a good childhood friend of yours, you two were inseparable.
After Grace’s incident at her school, Neytiri was upset, of course she was, she lost her big sister. As the sad memory of Sylwanin faded, happy memories were being made with you. You thought of Neytiri as a sister, and her the same for you. The both of you went everywhere together, except the lab. She hates the sky people, never wants to be seen with them, and she scolds you every time she notices you walking away from the clan and into the forest, going to find the sky people sanctuary laying in the open.
“Kaltxi.” (hello) Neytiri greets you but all you do is groan and turn around once again, facing the hammock on the opposite side of you, but it is empty. You sit up quickly and look around you, noticing that more than half of the hammocks were empty. You overslept, your night before only being filled with thoughts of Norm and Jake. The two men were very different, in more aspects of their bodies.
Both of your hands come up to your face before you harshly rub the sleep away from your face, your hair was disheveled, your chest piece slightly off-center, not showing anything, but yet you still fixed it just incase. You breathe in deeply before letting out a big sigh, all of your thoughts now becoming in order.
“Kalxti.” You finally respond back to Neytiri, turning your head to her, only to find her already smiling at you. You look at her confused before she begins to laugh, covering her mouth with one of her hands before the other one points at your head. You were in need of a good bath and some grooming. Your fingers reach up to brush through your hair while you groan at Neytiri’s continuing laughter.
“Ftang.” (stop) You begin to smile also, her laughter was contagious. Neytiri’s laughter dies down as you stretch your limbs. It’s morning time, and you know for sure Max said something about being in the lab early in the morning, you aren’t apart of the operation, but you want to at least see what’s going on. You scoot to sit on the edge of your hammock, looking down, you see many empty hammocks— a way for you to get down. You life your head and smile at Neytiri before jumping down, landing on various hammocks gracefully before you make your final jump on the plush grass of hometree. Shortly after you hear grunts, grunts that begin to get closer before you hear another soft landing of feet beside you. Already knowing what is coming, you turn to Neytiri and sigh exhaustedly.
“You know I do not want you going to that demon place.” Neytiri bares her sharp fangs at you as she talks, hoping to place fear in your heart so you can get it through your skull that the place you find yourself at every day is bad for you.
“Neytiri..you know you cannot stop me from going there, I love it there.” You smirk at her as you place your hand on her waist, hoping to swoon her into letting you go, but she doesn’t fall for it. She slaps your hand off her waist before she points a slender blue finger in your face.
“I am letting you go, but if you come back here bruised, or don’t come back at all. I am going to pluck the eyeballs right out of your head.” You smile at Neytiri before poking and prodding at her abdomen. Her serious face turns into one that is trying to hold back laughter as she bursts out laughing.
“Ftang! Ftang!” Her pleas are ignored as you continue to tickle her, she begins to push your hands away from her stomach as her laughter doesn’t die down. She finally gets ahold of your wrists and holds them in the air. You’re smiling at her and wiggling your fingers in her grasp.
“I’ll be back before eclipse, promise.” Neytiri lets go of your wrists with a groan before she pushes you away from her, a silent ‘go’ if you will. You turn around and begin to walk further into the forest, venturing to find the secluded pond where you will wash your body of any dirt and stench.

You show up right outside of the door of the link room, there’s a room separating you from Grace and the rest of the ‘crew’. You knock on the door as Grace taught you, and you don’t miss the way she jumps and turns around quickly, her shoulders flattening when she realizes it’s you. Grace walks over to the door before pressing a button, the button opens the door and you step inside, having to crouch a bit since the room was small as it was only really made to fit humans. The door hisses and lets out a loud screech as it closes behind you, separating you from the outside world. The room is filled with small holes, supposedly they suck out all the Pandoran air from the room, making it safe for you to enter. If humans were to intake any of that air, they would die in mere seconds.
Once the door opens to the link room, you are able to finally enter, dipping down once more to fit into the doorway before you stand to your full height in front of your favorite scientist, Grace.
“Morning sunshine, sleep well?” Grace moves beside you as she places a hand on your lower back, guiding you to sit on the floor in front of a office chair. Your tail swishes intensely at the contact, excitement taking over your bones, ready to do whatever it is Grace had planned for today.
“I sleep well, how about you?” Your English is broken but Grace understands it, yet she still corrects you, for your own betterment.
“I ‘slept’ well.” It was her answer but also a correction to your previous sentence, one you make sure to keep in mind. Grace contemplates on sitting down in the chair behind you but she stays standing as she realizes the size difference between you two. Her hands move to grab a brush on top of the metal table, grabbing the red hairs out of it as she begins to brush your hair into a ponytail. A large hairband hangs off of her wrist before she take it and wraps it around your soft dark hair, making a not-so-perfect ponytail, but it would do.
As grace smoothed down fly-aways Jake, Norm and Max enter the lab. Grace lets out a huff as she turns around, leaving you to stand up on your own— not like she could help you.
When you catch Norm’s eye he smiles at you and reaches up his hand to his forehead before bringing it back down. You could tell Norm really enjoyed the Na’vi culture, he looked better today too, his nerves gone today, the color in his face looking better than yesterday.
Jake on the other hand, takes his hands of his wheels to greet you too, but different from Norm, he raises his hand to send you some type of hand gesture that looks like he’s holding up the number two. You trail closely behind Grace as she points to two link pods, one for Norm and one for Jake. Jake is clumsy, and you don’t think he’s going to be responsible with this at all.
“How much link time have you logged?” Grace’s attention is turned towards Norm as she asks him the question.
“Five hundred and twenty hours.” Norm looks proud of himself and you are too, you may not know how high that number actually is, but it’s higher than one hundred, and to you that was the highest number of all.
“How much have you logged?” Grace asks Jake this time, who is now facing his link pod, pressing his fingers into the gel like substance and you can’t help but start to touch it too, Jake looks directly at you as he begins to smile.
“Zip, I read a manual” Grace is not satisfied by his answer as she scoffs and rolls her eyes.
“Tell me you’re joking.”
“This is cool” Jake keeps poking and prodding at the gel and Grace touches your lower back, signaling it was time for you to stop so he can get into his link.
The link pods begin to whir and spin as Jake and Norm both begin to lay down inside of them. You watch as Norm already looks like he knows what he’s doing, pulling the metal chest cage over himself as he send you a smile. This time it’s a smile filled with pure excitement.
Jake lifts himself into the link pod with only his arm strength, and you watch as Grace bends down slightly to try and help him lift his legs into the link pod but he shuts her down quickly.
“Don’t. I got this” Grace puts her hands up in surrender and shrugs lightly as she goes back to typing in the final things on the small monitor .
“So you just figured you'd come out here to the most hostile environment known to man, with no training of any kind, and see how it went? What was going through your head?” Everything Grace said was true, Pandora was a dangerous environment, especially for someone who had no experience at all. Jake seems confident though, and he turns his head to watch whatever Grace was typing on the monitor before he’s distracted by the whirring of the machine.
“Maybe I was sick of doctors telling me what I couldn’t do”
Grace sends you a side glance before turning back to Jake. He’s headstrong, and you and Grace both notice it. Jake is pushed down into his link pod by grace and the same metal chest cage is pushed down onto Jake this time, and you try and touch it before Grace grabs what she can of your hands a silent ‘no’ being sent your way.
“Keep your arms in, hands in, head down.” Immediately Jake disobeys the orders Grace just laid out for him, already lifting up his head to see what the metal contraption laying across his chest was.
“Down.” Grace pushes down Jake’s head and this time he keeps it down.
“Just relax and let your mind go blank. It shouldn’t be hard for you.” Grace tilts her head to the side as she shows Jake a small smile, holding in her laughter. You smile too, but you don’t hold your laughter, the last thing Jake hears is the sounds of your laughter.
“Kiss the darkest part of my lily white-” Jake can’t even finish his sentence before the lid to the link pod is closed tightly on top of him.
You hear Max talking about some type of sequence and you look at Grace as she begins walking away, and you follow her, but she seems to be following Max.
“That’s a gorgeous brain.” Max shows the brain of what you assume to be Jake’s to you and Grace, and you crouch down to watch Norm and Jake wake up in their link bodies through the thick glass window.
“Hah, go figure.” It was ironic, Jake showed the most stupidity you ever thought anyone could show, and now Max is complementing the complexity of his idiot brain.
“Alright, i’m going in.” Grace once again puts her hand on your lower back as she signals her departure, but you continue to watch as Max’s eyes shift between his tablet and the two giant blue bodies in hospital gowns separated by the thick glass.
The two people leaning over Jake all have sudden attention on him. You assume he opened his eyes for the first time in his new avatar body. You can’t hear the voices well through the thick glass, but you’ve been in this situation before, they were going to check up on his movements, make sure everything was alright, and teach him how to use is legs like he was a newborn baby.
You watch as Jake lifts his arms up in front of his face, and you can’t help but grip onto Max’s lab coat, he turns his head to you only to see you staring at him, silently pleading for him to let you out so you can go greet Jake and Norm in their avatar body.
“Not yet.” You huff and turn your head back to look through the glass, Norm is already sitting up and touching his fingertips together, the avatar have extra fingers and toes. You find it strange, but you suppose it’s the best they could do. Grace is smart, and if she could make the avatars look more like Na’vi, you’re sure she would.
Jake now sits up and begins to wiggle his toes and roll his ankles. You smile to yourself, realizing this is probably the first time in a while that he’s felt his legs. You see Jake’s expression change and you instantly worry, he looks up to no good, too excited.
“Max.” You warn max with a simple word, his own name, but he doesn’t seem to catch Jake’s shift in attitude.
Jake moves to stand up and a small panic runs through the room. You’re bouncing on your heels as your eyes dart between the door and Max, you know you can’t just shove through the door, it would be a danger to everybody. You know what is about to happen though. As the voices of the two doctors in the room get louder, Max looks up from his tablet and let’s out a noise of disagreement. Jake’s tail is whipping around wildly, knocking down medical equipment and hitting doctors in the face.
“You need to sit down!” The doctors try to warn Jake but he pays no mind to them, still continuing to move forward, even ripping off the sticky pad like thing connected to his temple.
“It’s okay, I got this.” Jake protests but it’s clear he has no control over the situation at all.
“Guys, get him back on the gurney now.” Max looks at you before giving you the okay to go into the open world of Pandora, you take long strides to get to the small door, crouching down and entering it before opening the final door, the one that lets you outside. You take a deep inhale of the air, the air you are familiar with and smile. Your calmness is ripped away as you hear shouts, your attention is turned to the door as you hear it burst open.
Jake looks disheveled as his eyes adjust to the light of the outside, two other avatars are playing a sport Grace calls ‘basketball’ in front of him, you watch as he greets them, and they look confused nonetheless
“It’s okay guys I got him.” You hear Norms voice as he trails after Jake, his running looking wobbly at first before he gets the hang of it, you sigh and begin to jog slowly over the the concrete slab laying in the grass before you put your hands on your hips. Jake is picking up speed as he dodges obstacles— and people. Norm continues to call out to him, giving out a warning that they shouldn’t be running, but Jake acts as if he doesn’t hear it and continues to pick up even more speed. You watch as he almost tramples into one of the thick robotic machine looking men and that’s when you decide to intervene.
You look to where Jake is headed and decide if you got there before him you could stop him in his tracks, but you don’t know how difficult that would be now, since he is damn near the same height and has the same strength as you now. You begin to run to where Jake was and see that he comes to a sliding stop.
“Jake!” Your voice calls out to him and he takes a deep breath of air before he lets out a laugh, a laugh of pure bliss. He wiggles his toes through the dirt before he looks back up at you, the same smile on his face from before.
“This is great.” You are now in front of him, about to scold him harshly before Grace comes and saves the day.
“Hey marine!” Grace struts her way to Jake in her avatar body wearing nothing but a crop-top and a pair of beige shorts, her avatar body is one you’ve gotten to accept and know and you give her an excited smile.
“Grace?” Jakes words are laced full with surprise as he chuckles in disbelief.
“Well who’d you expect numbnuts? Think fast!” Grace quickly pulls off a purple fruit. One that’s hard to get back in the forest, it’s too high up in the trees.
Jake catches the fruit but he’s still looking at you and Grace in pure amazement. “Motor control is looking good.” Grace has a smile on her face as Jake bites into the sweet fruit, juices running all down his hands and chin.
Jake lets out a sound of enjoyment mixed with a chuckle and you and Grace can’t help but smile and let out your own laughs at him.
The next two hours were spent training Jakes mobility, and all you did was watch as Jake and Norm struggled to do certain obstacle courses. The time was getting closer to eclipse though, and you promised Neytiri you would be back before then. As the responsable Na’vi you were, you got up and went over to Grace, Norm and Jake, bidding them all a goodbye before you set off deeper into the forest.
“This has got to be in record of one of my best days ever” Jake smiles as he utters those words, and truly it was for him, he got his legs back, temporarily, but they were back.
“Yeah yeah, but it’s about time for bed, cmon” Grace ushers them up before walking to a big shed, where all the avatars slept, and that was also where they would wake up when they were back linked.
—
“Alright gang, lights out!” Grace claps her hands together twice as her voice is loud enough for everyone to hear.
“C’mon Louise, chop chop” Grace rushes out all the human scientists, pleading them to go back into the lab
“Don’t play with that, you’ll go blind” Grace warns Jake, who is staring intensely at the small skinny tendrils connected to the bottom of his thick braid, his tsaheylu.
“That’s kinda freaky” Jake responds back to Grace’s warning, letting go of his braid as he begins to lay down
Grace basically pushes out all of the human scientists outside, closing the metal gate behind them. “Lights out, see ya at dinner” her hand moves to shut off all the lights in the wooden longhouse and Jake closes his eyes, falling asleep and being sent back to his link pod.
