Chapter 46, House of Cards
My Takeaway -‘Miles to go - Is TW a reflection of the diverse world we live in?'
It's always fancy to read a description in which an organisation calls itself an equal opportunity employer. But the amount of sensibility one needs to actually make it happen is often unheard of. Today at ThoughtWorks Inc. #IndiaAwayDay we had a breakout session called 'Miles to go - Is TW a reflection of the diverse world we live in?'. Without knowing what to really expect out of this session, I continued sitting in my place from the previous lighting talk. The panel discussion was initiated by moderator Tina Vinod who spoke about diversity at TW and whether we really foster inclusiveness. We had colleagues from different walks of life coming up on the stage and sharing their personal stories. I had goosebumps several times while hearing TWers speak about various challenges they had to overcome and choices they had to make. A story of a single mother who raised her daughter alone with dignity and pride while finding her way into the IT industry. A medical graduate who found his true calling and pursued his passion for Scala Technology. A young boy who is not afraid to explore endless opportunities that an IT job has to offer despite the fact that he comes from a rural village where his father is a barber. A transgender TWer on how society can be harsh to the 3rd gender but that doesn't stop oneself from pursuing career aspiration. An Indian gay TWer on how he came out of the closet got married to a colleague at TW and now is a proud father of 3 beautiful adopted babies. There were many more participants who had the courage to step up and share their experiences of being stereotyped (racial, gender, caste, religion, ethnicity, orientation) and how they have found the courage to surpass it. Sitting right at the front and hearing these stories from them moved me and made me realise how it can be so easy to be ignorant but difficult to be open and sensitive to such outliers (for lack of a better word). Happy and proud to be part of an organisation which claims be an equal opportunity employer in it's true sense.
Can I say something strange? I am happy.

It's funny. On the outside, I was an honest man. Straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook.

Jaipur in Symmetry.
Earlier this month I was travelling and had the good fortune of visiting Jaipur. I was completely blown away by the architecture and rich Rajputana culture which the city reflects. One can’t help but notice the symmetry in all these ancient structures. Would love to visit Rajasthan again and explore other parts of the state as well. All these photos have been captured on Go Pro.
