It's like @CasteResorts created this just for me! #gohawaii Portuguese sausage (like my grandparents used to make!) poached eggs (you got my number!) and a light, bright and delicious lillikoi hollandaise sauce. Oh and my other favorite thing in the world....rice!! (at Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel)
Parisians find a way to keep their feet dry after a flood of the Seine in 1924.
They’re predicting the Seine could flood again this upcoming winter and even the Louvre is moving works of art from storage in the basement to a warehouse near Calais. You can read more here.

You know how they say an average person swallows about 8 spiders per year? Well I think I ate a spider last night.
I brushed my teeth before going to bed but when I woke up, there were some questionable things stuck in my teeth. I was too scared to see what it was so I just spit it out without looking but I’m convinced it was a spider. Ugh.

Now that Fox Studios had their unveiling ceremony (last night) I can share this sneaked photo of the Die Hard mural on the lot to celebrate the 25-year span between the first Die Hard movie and the one coming out on Feb 14! The mural faces out towards the Nakatomi Bldg! #filmgeek #diehard (at 20th Century Fox Studio Store)
MamaKat's Losin it Writing Prompts 01.07 > 10 faves of 2012
I've decided to start "playing along" with MamaKat's Weekly Writing Prompts.
Some of them look so fun, but they often don't fit into my blog's branding. I started this Tumblr to put "everything else" so that's what I am going to do...and have fun while doing it!
I selected:
1.) The ladies at MomSmack listed their top 10 faves of 2012 here. Use their list as a template and fill in your own answers! (inspired by MomSmack)
So here is my list:
Favorite 2012 Movie: Skyfall and Dark Knight Rises (what can I say, I am an action film junkie!)
Favorite Album: Not a big music person, so didn't have a favorite album that was out this year, still listening to the last Lady Antebellum
Favorite Song: Just a Kiss (Lady Antebellum)
Favorite Tweeter: Love Andrew Zimmern's humor!
Favorite Blog: Wow, I read over 400 a week, that is a toughie! There are three I read nearly every day, let's just keep it at that.
Favorite TV Show: Top Chef
Favorite Instagramer: Cucina Digitale
Favorite Moment: Sitting on top of Hunt's Mesa and looking down on Monument Valley at sunset, I am not very religious, but I felt the presence of something in that beautiful place.
Favorite Conference: I actually didn't get to go to many conference this year due to work conflicts (I had to cancel both BlogHer and BlogHer Food) but I did go to one great social media conference in San Diego called Social Fresh West.
Favorite Viral Video: I don't watch a lot of online videos, but I loved the Obama Anger Translator videos from Key & Peele!
That's it for this week, if you are visiting for the first time, maybe you'll want to check out my main blog, Misadventures with Andi
From a Thursday spent with press at the Dolby Labs HQ in San Francisco to a weekend full of playoff football in Dolby Digital 5.1, to a seat on a flight from Oakland to fabulous Las Vegas, the trip here was a whirlwind, and 100% worth it:
This is CES!
At the moment I’m writing this, I haven’t even seen the bulk of what’s to come inside the convention center, but even my trip to pick up a badge was more than a little awe-inspiring.
Each year, over 100,000 people descend on Las Vegas en masse, some of them carrying notebooks and cameras, some of them carrying illustrations and prototypes, others still carrying massive displays and the finished products the average consumer won’t get their hands on for months.
It’s not the only show like this in the country, but it’s the biggest, and each year companies save some of their best offerings to announce in the surprisingly cool desert sun of January’s Las Vegas.
This year is my first year in attendance, and while I didn’t quite know what to expect, after seeing the folks working diligently to set up booths and tents just outside the convention center just 24 hours prior to doors opening, I can hardly wait to share what I’m seeing with all of you.
Keep track of Dolby at CES by following us on Twitter and Facebook, and let us know what YOU’RE most excited about! With so many things to see, I’m anxious to make sure I see the gadgets that will define the show, and you, tech fans, are the ones who decides what sinks and what swims!
- Thom Brekke is Dolby’s Community Manager and the guy you are likely to hear from on Facebook and Twitter. He is also a computer musician, Oregon Ducks football fan, and dance floor freak.
Happy to have my community manager hitting CES this year (my feet are already thanking me):
