she was only meant to walk her through that grand archway and bid her adieu. yet somehow here body lays, sprawled out across silk sheets that have a thread count higher than gigi's hair. it would have been an ideal way to awake, with limbs intertwined, lacking the spatial awareness to know where her body ended and the other's began. but of course, why would she fair so lucky ? especially after the catastrophic earth shattering events that had taken place not ten hours prior. the moment body is tugged from slumber the hammering begins, it vibrates against skull, causing molars to grind in discomfort. she painfully aware of what they've done, before eyes have opened to acknowledge the morning light. oh how the mighty have fallen ; far fetched ( but all too true ) tales of their impropriety would have spread like wildfire by now. where would they even begin to salvage their reputations ? joanna hasn't even been back in dallas a week.

" gigi - " response barely escapes throat, tongue swipes against lips, but it does little more than dry her mouth further. " i need water. " what she needs to do is get her ass out of this bed, begin formulating a plan, preparing a testimony to defend the redhead's honor from the congregation - from her wife. oh god, her wife ! abdomen curls up into a seated position, what little decency the sheet provided now gone as it falls to lap. she's wide awake now, but then gaze land on the other women, and any remorse she may have felt has quickly fled. self-restraint had always been one of her strengths; saying “no” came as easily as a blink—especially when it came to joanna or anyone else, for that matter. maybe it was the lingering grief of widowhood clouding her judgment. or maybe it was the raw hatred she felt for the other woman, the one now carrying the same last name as the woman who had was occupying her bed. whatever the reason, the solution to her loneliness had presented itself on a silver platter and she had taken every piece willingly. gigi stayed silent as the older woman stirred from her sleep, a headache creeping in with each passing second. “then get your ass out of this bed and get it on your way out!" she whispered, her voice tinged with panic, trying not to think about how many people had likely seen the unmistakable car parked out front. she pressed her hands to her temples, her auburn hair falling wild and disheveled from what had once been an orderly updo. groaning at the words joanna had just spoken, she fought the urge to roll her eyes. “we have to move." her tone was flat as she scanned the room, trying to figure out the best next step. pulling the sheets tighter around her, she made a makeshift robe and slowly rose from the bed before moving toward the window, peering outside to see if a crowd had already started to gather, though she didn’t care how melodramatic the situation seemed—especially with carlene as her neighbor. “if you leave now, you can beat the morning traffic to chur- oh lord above, church!” eyes widening before moving quickly back to the mattress and hurling her face into the pillow.

index gently traces the circumference of champagne flute as she surveys the room. she's smiled and nodded at more men than she ever hoped to speak with in one night. roderick seems to be enjoying himself - parading around with posse, filled with boisterous laughter and eyes that wander to each cocktail waitress. that's her own doing really, hiring a brigade of long-lashed svelte servers. she knew he'd try to stick his dick in anything that moved. now as gaze lands upon the guest of honor and his lovely wife, you realize the apples had rotted next to one another where they fell from the tree. she stalks closer, hovering and listening, awaiting a break in conversation to intrude. ❝ are the boys boring you yet ? ❞ it's spoken just loud enough for @andimpulsive to hear. ❝ i was thinking, there's this new restaurant on park that i've been dying to try, why don't you join me tomorrow while the boys finish up their business ? ❞ ... unprompted.

you’d think that after weeks of the same parties, the same gatherings—only this time with a new set of faces—someone would suggest a change of pace. a shift in scenery, perhaps. but not her husband. no, joseph was consumed with the need to shake every hand in the room, as though his very survival hinged on it. the world spun on, relentless and familiar, but at least one thing remained constant: the alcohol. and, for once, the host seemed to be putting some thought into the selection. and then, like a breath of fresh air cutting through the heavy fog, a woman's voice sliced through the testosterone-fueled chatter. the redhead’s eyes lifted, drawn to @madusher, a glint of intrigue and amusement flashing in her gaze. “ they always do, " she replied, her tone both proud and unyielding, unfazed by the playful jabs and mock hurt that followed. “ that sounds lovely. I hear the holiday lights are up. " she smirked, rising to her feet, smoothing her dress as she closed the distance between them, eager to escape the cloying cloud of cologne. “ it’s a date. "

there is a delicate balance between healthy competition and rivalry. they have yet to distinguish the two. when will they finally grasp the idea that they are not opposing one another, but instead cut from the same cloth ? their frayed seams reaching out, begging to be sewn together, to be made whole… you would fail to understand where one ended and the other began. how long must they walk on eggshells before the question that could put an end to this all is finally asked : what am i to you ? friend, business partner, confidant, almost lover. perhaps it is everything and more.

she has allowed herself to become worked up. the idea of being left behind making her fall trap to temptation. it was only a matter of time before hand was shown, nothing's been the same since she moved out, since orson came back. the other is not allowed to finish before she is tackily cut off. " and so you're just going to follow her off into the sunset ? " there's a sharpness that leaves tongue and carries through to the last word, head snapping towards the woman sitting adjacent. it is when their eyes meet that racing thoughts finally slow, and the silence of the room grows heavy - it's suffocating. now overcome with a wave of remorse for allowing temper to take precedent to ration, oh the carnage left in the wake of jealousy. there was a boundary—a sharp, intense, stunning stop. how often had they skirted around the grand scheme, allowing whispered exchanges fade into nothingness when someone else came close. they exchanged covert glances across the room, all while under the scrutiny of influential opinions. reached out in search of comfort to find open hands making selves busy in facade. 

there was an irritation—a perpetual, infuriating bewilderment. longing to shout at the top of her voice, begging the other to confront the reality. recognize that playing house had not just been a revisit of a childhood fantasy. acknowledge the wishes and cravings. how effortlessly they could possess all they ever desired, if only they would afford themselves some leniency. cease worrying over turning into the latest subject of rumor in a small town.

and finally, there was a quiet—a profound, sickening, heartbreaking acknowledgement of wrongdoing. building tolerance to entire association - professional, personal, and all else that had built up over time. a silence filled with unvoiced desires, appeals, and reality.

the reply she got was anticipated, yet it still delivered a piercing ache to her heart. gaze briefly meeting, struggling to anchor in the intense green that pierced through her. body remained motionless, as though it might let the hostility bounce off without causing lasting harm. lips parted slightly before she found the words to fill the silence, " that's not what this is, " katherine objected, shaking her head, wishing for understanding to penetrate the fog in her thoughts.

they were on a direct, first-class, nonstop, red-eye flight aimed straight for the core of the infernal abyss. imagine the uproar that would ensue within the city limited of dallas once the tale began to circulate. would it truly surprise anyone, though? probably not. especially after their overt displays of affection at the country club's annual gala. fueled by shamelessly branded whiskey and unseemly thoughts, not only had she audaciously snatched the famous cowboy hat from atop the head of a business tycoon, but she had also brazenly done so in front of joanna’s current wife. their evening of slow dancing and flirtation had ended with the woman offering her a ride home due to her drunken state. gigi realized she had made a horrendous error, particularly when she awoke the next morning to discover not just her own clothes scattered around the room, but also joanna's, who laid peacefully sleeping beside her. “oh my god,” she muttered, filled with regret and mortification. “get the hell up, right now!” she demanded, her fingers clenching a feathered pillow tightly before starting to strike the woman with it.
