Was it necessary to have another party after the last one ended unfavorably? It was certainly against his better judgment and even worse, tempting the idea of wearing a costume but it seemed better to make an appearance than choose to ignore it. If he ignored it, would it only rise suspicion if this party would end anything like the last? Probably and the last thing he needed was suspicion surrounding him during this time. Besides, didn’t the invitations say attendance and costumes were a must? So Rod did what he needed to do, choosing a particularly ridiculous costume idea as a vampire. The look isn’t too different from his usual, nonuniformed attire and the only thing that was particularly different was transfiguring his teeth to look more like a vampire’s should.

Eight o’clock came soon enough, even though the crowd to the forbidden forest grew uneasy with anticipation before the time arrived but the party started quickly. Rod managed to grab himself a drink, move through the crowd with some ease before finding himself a nice place to watch, away from the thick of the crowd. As someone approached, he managed to get a quick look at them before becoming puzzled at their costume. “And what, or who, are you supposed to be?”

Andromeda wasn’t the partying type, yet she found herself at another Hogwarts party. She had found Halloween to be a tactless holiday, especially in their ill attempts when it comes to the portrayal of witches, but she went along with the theme of costumes. Her urge to impress was low at the moment, so she merely wandered over to Amelia and requested her Ravenclaw robes. It wasn’t going to win her any rewards, but going as a Ravenclaw student was different from her usual green and silver attire. 

Andromeda didn’t want to talk to either of the Lestrange boys, but she hadn’t recognized anyone in the crowd other than Rodolphus. She rolled her eyes at his question before her arms crossed her chest. “I’m a Ravenclaw.” She motioned at the blue on the robes before she examined him. “What exactly are you supposed to be, Lestrange? A nuisance to society?”

Dirk cringed when the door opened, a “Sorry,” already passing his lips before he looked up from his textbook and saw which prefect had found him. He froze. Andromeda Black. Her name, as far as Dirk was concerned, told him everything he needed to know. The Black family had their reputation and Dirk had not been at Hogwarts very long before he learnt of it. He had lessons with Narcissa, who seemed to have picked up on how nervous he got around her and took some fascination in playing on the fact. Though Dirk was fairly sure she had no idea why she made him so nervous, he still tensed at the sight of her sister.

“Sorry,” he repeated. He closed his book but kept his eyes down, mostly out of fear of her seeing the truth in his face. “My dorm–” he mumbled, as explanation for why he was there. “Xeno–” It wasn’t much of an excuse, though. It’s not like he had been murdered in his bed. No, it had been at a party. A party where half the school had been and with Aurors around, Dirk knew there was only one conclusion to make. Nobody else could have got into Hogwarts, so the killer was one of them. And with their reputation, surely it made sense to be suspicious of a Black and all those associated with them. He lifted his eyes, against his better judgement, and stared at her, wariness obvious in his face but he couldn’t bring himself to get up and walk away. All he could think was does she know who did it?

Andromeda didn’t notice the way Dirk tensed when noticing her. Andromeda had learned to tune out the strange looks a long time ago. Being a daughter in the Black household meant she was bound to gather looks. They were a high class, pureblooded family. She may not have gotten as many looks like her sisters, but it was still enough for her to grow used to the stares and the frightened looks. If not, she might have questioned why he was anxious around her when she was doing nothing other than her job--- his job as well. 

A scoff was about to escape her lips at the excuse before she glanced down at the Ravenclaw robes. She had seen many people try to use the death of a student to justify their late-night wanderings, most of which probably hadn’t heard of the student beforehand, but being in the same house meant there was at least a bit of warrant to his claim. She held back her instinct to take away points and drag him to bed whether he likes it or not. 

“Regardless of the reason, points still need to be taken away.” She wasn’t budging on that part. Andromeda Black wasn’t soft, and she didn’t want to seem like it. “I can, however, make an exception and let you stay out here.” Her eyes narrowed slightly at him as she added on, “If you tell anyone, I'll deny it. and will make your life hell, Cresswell.”

Bellatrix was entertaining but he found the other two Black sisters lacking in that department. Narcissa, the prim and proper girl who never got her hands dirty and the quiet but surprisingly petulant Andromeda. At least she had that attitude going for her. Damon might have smirked a little wider if Andie hadn’t gone mentioning parents to him. Most people didn’t know the first thing about Damon Mulciber’s family life because he wanted it to be that way. However, it was moments like these that he almost wished they would all know better then to bother him with reminders.

Covering up the distaste for the topic he merely scoffed, as if amused. As if he didn’t remember every single time a spell or object was thrown at him for misbehaving in front of his father. Damon clicked his tongue at her. “Well, seeing as mummy dearest is dead, I’m afraid not, Andie.” He took a step closer, grinning. “And not everyone’s mums and daddy’s are as sweet on their ickle little babies as mum and daddy Black are. Seriously. Where is your sense of fun, AB? Sometimes I forget you and Bellatrix are related.” He scoffed.

Andromeda found Damon Mulciber to be nothing more than a thorn in her side. There were some of her pureblooded companions that she enjoyed the company of, such as Evan, Walden, Alecto, and even Amelia, but Damon wasn’t in that category. He gave her a migraine more often than not, and all she longed to do was get away from his presence before she felt the familiar pounding form in her head. It was too bad that she had gotten sucked into a conversation with him, and that she’s too stubborn to simply turn around and walk the other way.

She resisted the urge to roll her eyes at his comment. She wasn’t the favorite child of either parent, so his statement didn’t sit right with her. Her mother was in love with Narcissa, and her father had declared Bellatrix to be his heir for as long as she could remember. Andromeda was simply the middle child, the odd one out of the trio. She seemed to fit that dynamic in a lot of ways. Her hair wasn’t as dark as Bellatrix’s nor was it as light as Narcissa’s. She wasn’t as quiet as Narcissa nor was she as loud as Bellatrix. She was simply the middle one.

“Some of us have better things to do than trash stuff to feel joy.” Her tongue clicked as she glanced at a second-year who nearly avoided a piece of glass. “I know your whole purpose in life is to be a brute, but I can’t say I have the same ambitions.”

Excitement… was an understatement. Damon was ecstatic. No more holding back (questionable that he had to begin with), no more waiting for the moment to strike… The moment was now. Bellatrix had said so herself and he’d listened with gleaming eyes and widened smirk. Now that they were back at the castle and he looked around, he knew he wanted to be the first of the Death Eaters to have his fun. People were now filing in and filling up the halls as they made their way back into their dormitories after the game. What perfect timing.

Damon hopped up on a bench by the windows, shit-eating grin on his lips. His wand pointed towards the windows nearby, immediately shattered old, shining glass and mosaics - raining down glass and more onto the crowd below. “CONGRATULATIONS HUFFLEPUFF,” He announced with heavy sarcasm. Damon let out a whoop and a laugh, jumping back down to the ground. He almost bumped into one of the passing students that had looked up at the damage.

“Oh. Apologies,” he mocked. “Didn’t see you there.”

Andromeda hadn’t noticed the lack of Slytherins at the game. She didn’t go to enough games to truly take notice of who attends and who often skips. The only reason she had gone to this game was that she knew Ted was the seeker and a part of her wanted to watch him play. Of course, she would never admit that out loud, but it was the reason she found herself wandering down the hall with the other members of the crowd.

She heard a loud voice and her trailed over to the source of it, A scoff escaped her lips at the sight of Damon Mulciber. She watched as glass started raining down on the crowd, and she weaved out of its way before almost colliding with the Slytherin male. 

“Real classy, Mulciber. Did your parents not teach you to not break things, or did the lesson just go in one ear and out the other?” Normally she wouldn’t care about his antics, but she knew she would get stuck cleaning it up during prefect duties. Plus, a small part of her didn’t want someone unsuspecting students stepping in the glass.

When Lily had told him that he could have a week off from prefect rounds, Dirk felt more frustrated than relieved. He would have taken any excuse to be out of his dorm, away from the weird feelings surrounding the room and away from the horrible reminder of that empty bed. So when it came to the library closing time and Pince shooed him out, Dirk didn’t go immediately back to Ravenclaw tower. He knew he should and he knew that he would be in trouble if he was caught but Dirk couldn’t stand it. He wouldn’t be able to sleep, anyway. He hadn’t the night before.

He left the staircases at the third floor, instead of continuing up to the fifth. Normally, if Dirk wanted to be alone, he would head for the Quidditch pitch or seek solace in the Potions classroom, knowing that Slughorn would be sympathetic, but both going outside or down to the dungeons felt like too much of a risk in the current environment. Instead, he went to the Charms classroom. Flitwick would have already retreated into his office and would be unlikely to show up, but if he did then Dirk was fairly sure he would be more understanding than some of the other professors.

Dirk sat on the floor of the classroom, back against the wall, and flicked through his History of Magic textbook. It was hard to focus on wandlore history when he kept replaying every conversation he’d had with Xeno those first two and a  half weeks of sixth year, but Dirk was determined to try and distract himself somehow.

Andromeda usually didn’t mind her prefect duties, but after the death of Lovegood, she was starting to loathe the task. Everyone had seemed to use the death of a classmate to avoid their responsibilities, and it left Andromeda wandering the halls alone. Normally, she found comfort in the silence, but it got on her nerves that she had to be the sole person responsible for taking away points and yelling at upset students for not going back to their dorms by curfew. She had wished the professors hadn’t let so many prefects take the week off, but she knew it would be insensitive to complain about the issue so soon after his death.

She was patrolling around the third floor when she noticed a shadow in one of the classrooms. She rolled her eyes at the thought of another second-year student hiding from the death eaters as if lurking in an empty classroom would do anything for them. She didn’t want to take sides in the war, but the death of Lovegood proved that people needed to do more than just hide away if they wanted to avoid being the next person to make headlines. She wouldn’t tell them that, nor would she do anything to help them, but that was her observation.

Shee slipped into the classroom with her wand up and ready. She didn’t think she’d need to use it, but it was a precaution told to her by one of the professors. She lowered her wand when she saw it was none other than Dirk Cresswell. Her eyes squinted slightly at the Ravenclaw before she said in a calm voice, “You know the deal, Cresswell. Get to bed or I'm taking away points.”

Of course Andy wouldn’t like her betrothed, Rabastan was hardly the man that Evan could ever imagine being the perfect match for his cousin. Also, it certainly seemed like every betrothed pureblood lady didn’t have the nicest things to say about their fiances. Though in this case, Evan would have to agree with whatever nasty things she had to say about Rab.

“Maybe save you some time,” he sighed, already feeling his anger start to fade. “it might make my job at a happy future a little harder.” He wasn’t quite sure what her opinion on Nadiya was, or if they’d ever even interacted for long periods of time, but he hoped he didn’t think too negatively of her. “Enjoying yourself at the party? Did you come by yourself? Your sister seemed to have stolen Barty from me as company.”

Andromeda felt bad for her cousin. She honestly thought he deserved better than Nadiya Krum, but they both had their fates tied due to their parents. They both had to deal with keeping the pureblood lineage untainted, and the only way to ensure that would be to set up the marriages at a young age. It was a frustrating reality, but it was one they were forced to live with since their births.

“I’m sure she’ll come around.” She didn’t know if she was referring to her coming back to the party or warming up to Evan. Either way, Andromeda didn’t quite believe her words. “I did. Most of the people were already here when I arrived.” She hadn’t planned on staying at the party, so it was a bit surprising to see her not wandering back to her dorm room. “Narcissa?” A small chuckle left her lips at the thought of her younger sister. “I’d like to think I'm better company than Barty is anyways. My little sister did you a favor.”

“So are you saying I shouldn’t handle my alcohol?” Walden teased. It has always been his default mode in communicating. It’s easier that way. Minus the tension in the air, he could almost pretend that it’s as if nothing got in between them. As if it was before he joined the Death Eaters, Walden misses those days, if only for his friendship with Andromeda. But they all have to grow up someday and Walden had to grow up. They will all have to choose a side in this brewing war one day but with Walden’s suspicions about Andie’s reservations, he wasn’t sure they’ll end up on the same side. Better distance himself now than get heartbroken by her decision later.

But for tonight… Maybe Walden can just… let himself enjoy her company. He can always go back to ignoring her after the party. Let tomorrow be another story. Just for tonight, he let the walls drop and let a genuine smile escape his lips before grabbing her had. “Drop that. It’s only decent if you know what you’re getting or if you’re making it yourself. Come.” He started dragging her to the drinks table. “I’ll make one for you.”

“You can do what you want.” She knew her concerns wouldn’t mean much. Walden would do what he saw fit, and she would sit back and observe the repercussions. It was all she could do as he pulled away from her. This moment between them was one they hadn’t had in a long time. This light bantering was almost foreign to her, and it formed a lump in her throat at the knowledge that things would go back to how they were after the party died down. 

Yet, she couldn’t help but enjoy the moment. There was a softness that she held for Walden. Years of being his friend and enduring their heritage together meant that he held a close spot in her heart. A smile formed on her face at the sight of his. His hand tugging her body along reminded her of their youth and wandering around their parents’ homes. “Let’s see how good your tastes are, Macnair. I have high expectations.” She had missed this kind of conversation. Like this, she could almost forget that they’d be distant come morning.

Death has a way of bringing people together. What a laugh. After the news of Xenophilius had spread, it was becoming more apparent that death had a way of separating people and furthering rifts of distrust. The war had already begun dividing the masses on the outside, and had threatened to spill over into the gates of Hogwarts with the young blood that walked the halls. You had to be carefully taught, and Rabia was one of the well-informed, allied with the winning side and the correct one. 

She went about her life as usual, physically seeming un-phased, internally at a crossroads. It wasn’t like anyone would care if she shared her opinions, but Rabia knew better than to express them and be cast aside like the rest. It didn’t matter anyway, death was as natural as life, and it was survival of the fittest in their world. 

Potions Club was a healthy distraction, even if people were still whispering about the victim, how they’d known him, when they’d last seen him, and so on and so forth. Anything for a little ounce of attention and sympathy. “If I hear you utter one thing about Xenophilius Lovegood I won’t hesitate to find another partner, Andromeda.” Her tone was warning, focused on finding the perfect vial for her attempted Acceleration potion, one that would increase your speed and agility. If she could, it’d take off in the Quidditch world, a surefire way to earn her the attention and status she deserved. 

Potions club was Andromeda’s escape. She adored the subject, and she found that she was rather good at it as well. She had wanted to become a healer for a while now, and knowing how to mix up potions came in handy for her preferred career path. She knew the career was an odd choice for her, especially considering her family’s alliance in the war, but she didn’t quite care about other jobs. Let her fellow snakes take up jobs in the ministry or rely on their family’s wealth. 

It also helped take her mind off of the current news traveling throughout the castle. She had heard plenty of whispers about Lovegood and his demise. It seemed like every student had a different version of his death, and Andromeda was growing bored of the tall tales getting whispered in her ear. 

She scoffed at Rabia’s comment. “That would be your loss.” She reached over to pluck a piece of unicorn hair and allowed it to run through her fingers. She didn’t quite know where she stood with Rabia. Andromeda always felt like they hovered between friends and not. Occasionally they could work together and achieve great things, but then other times she avoided Andromeda like she had some sort of contagious disease. It had perplexed her, but she never felt the need to voice her questions aloud. “Did you put the correct amount of gillyweed? I don’t think it’s going to work if you added too much.”

          Whispers filled every inch of the castle. No matter where you would go, they would follow, almost relentlessly. To constantly remind you of what happened. Never in his wildest dreams did he think something like this would happen within Hogwarts and it was enough to shake Sirius to his core. There was no escaping the whispers or the reality of it all, no, he needed to face the fact that there’s a dead student now. A Ravenclaw that he didn’t know personally outside of reputation because who didn’t know of Xeno Lovegood? It made him uneasy to know that he had been killed, mutilated by the sound of the rumors that were growing wildly out of control by those who didn’t witness the body. All it did was make him angry, tightly gripping his hands into fists whenever the thoughts resurfaced about it. He didn’t know who to blame, not singularly, but there was a group as a whole he did blame and the worst part of it was that he couldn’t touch them. He had no proof other than the fact that they’re the ones who have been terrorizing the world as they knew it. Death Eaters.

          Sirius was stuck, deep in thought, allowing his thoughts to fuel the anger that was rising within him. He walked with very little direction and allowed himself to wander aimlessly until he would snap out of it, taking in his surroundings. Only then did he realize he wasn’t alone in this secluded area of the castle and his heart hurt to see his cousin not far from him. He wasn’t sure her thoughts on this whole mess, he wasn’t even sure of her feelings either. Andromeda had become a mystery to him which may have hurt him more than he led on. Still, he walked up to her without thinking too much about it and leaned against the wall near her. “Did you need somewhere quiet, too?” He knew he would be breaking the quiet with his voice but Sirius couldn’t help himself, he never could. 

Andromeda didn’t know how to react to the news of a dead student. She wasn’t surprised that the Aurors couldn’t do the one job they were sent here to do, but she was annoyed that the death had happened during the school year. She found it difficult to focus on her studies when she had to deal with a bunch of terrified Hufflepuffs or her smug companions. She had grown tired of the talk regarding Lovegood rather quickly, but it seemed like no one wanted to focus on anything other than the mangled body and the message that was left behind. All of the conversations, whether in class or in passing, revolved around this event. She supposed the death eaters felt proud that their achievement was the talk of the town, but Andromeda was ready for the shock to wear off.

She had wandered into the more secluded section of the castle in a bid to get some time to herself. She had been dealing with students enough for the day, but apparently, fate had other plans. She had glanced at the source of the voice before a small frown appeared on her face. Sirius was someone that she used to be close to, but his allegiance divided them. He got blown off of the tapestry, and Andromeda was told to cut off all contact with him. It had hurt her to see him pull away, but the hurt had lessened over time. Sadly, those feelings swelled to the surface as she stared at him.

“I needed a break from all of the crying. It was giving me a headache.” The remark was cold, but it was true. She felt exhausted from all of the heightened emotions around her, and she needed some silence to clear her mind.

Bellatrix was grateful that out of individual to approach her, it had been her younger sister Andromeda — one of the few people whom she loved, and would fight to the ends of the Earth to always protect. Sometimes she wondered if there was a slight divide creating between the pair of them; the two girls who had been inseparable once upon a time in their childhood. A chuckle escaping her lips at her remarks she replied, “How unfortunate that this is the truth Andie. But at least instead of their company I have you.” She replied as she moved a hand to lightly grip the others, as she squeezed it as she moved her other to take a long drink from the cup she held in her fingers. Her eyes quickly glancing about the room for her youngest sister the moment Andromeda mentioned her, she shook her head as she replied, “We arrived around the same time but she disappeared in Nadiya’s company or something as soon as we arrived. Are you enjoying yourself though Andie?” She replied as she turned her attentions back towards her younger sister.

Andromeda held mixed feelings about her sister. She loved both of her sisters, would go to the ends of the Earth for them, but there was something about Bellatrix that frightened her. It was the way she could sling a curse without feeling an ounce of remorse. It was the way she could watch some first-year cry and not care. Andromeda didn’t hold the bloodthirstiness that Bellatrix and some of their companions had. She was cold, but she wasn’t emotionless. She valued herself first, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t occasionally feel guilty for leaving some younger years to fend for themselves. It was some observations that made Andromeda feel a bit separated from her elder sister. “I am now. I had to endure Rabastian as soon as I walked in. I spoke to your lovely fiancee as well.” Andromeda gave Bellatrix a pointed look. She knew how both of them felt about their engagements.

There was far too long of a beat as Ted’s brain seemed to click on exactly who had joined him on his perch, and seeing Andy had his heart deciding to pick up speed in his chest against his permission. He was grateful for the low lighting, since he was sure that his face flushed, and he had no alcohol in his system that he could blame it on. 

Belle seemed perfectly content to glare at the girl, and he could feel her in his lap, muscles tensing and ready to lunge at any moment, and Ted placed a gentle hand on her back, lightly scratched that spot that always seemed to make the cat melt, and though it took a moment, the tension left her as she settled in and started purring. Though the look on her face when he glanced down at her told him all that he needed to know. She was still glaring at Andromeda. It might have been funny if Ted wasn’t well aware what his cat was capable of. 

Clearing his throat, he quickly looked back up at the girl, offering a small smile. “Are you having the most enjoyable evening, Miss Black?” He tried to keep his tone playful, teasing the girl just a little, head tilting slightly. “I might have thought all of this was a bit too… uncooth for someone with so much grace and class.”

Andromeda knew it was dangerous. She knew how her family felt about those not of pure blood, and she knew what they would think if they saw her being friendly to one. Normally, she wouldn’t. A half-blood might get into her good graces, but a muggle-born would receive either a glare or a threat. 

Ted was different. She didn’t feel that hatred towards him. She actually found herself enjoying his company. He was so different from her, so nice where she and her peers lacked kindness, and it was endearing. They say that opposites attract, and Andromeda didn’t believe in it until she warmed up to the Hufflepuff male. 

Her eyes focused on his cat, and she narrowed her eyes slightly. Andromeda didn’t strive for approval from others, but she couldn’t help but feel a bit bitter that his cat had seen her as a threat. She knew Callista would act the same way, but she had expected Ted’s cat to be as nice as he was. She finally allowed her eyes to move away from the feline and focus back on the male next to her. A slight smile fell on her lips at his comment.

“I am. It’s not a pureblood party, but I'll allow it.” There was a slight teasing to her voice. She loathed the pureblooded galas that she was forced to attend. The excessive talks about marriages and allegiances exhausted her, and it was nice to attend a party that didn’t focus on status. She shook her head at his next comment. “Perhaps I wanted to see how the other side lived.”

It was only after he swallowed the shot when he realized whom he got it from. Shite. When did she join the circle? He pressed her lips tight before answering, suppressing any emotion that might escape his face. Talking to her now wasn’t the best idea and he wanted to avoid any unnecessary confrontations as much as possible. “A lot,” he said playfully and flashed her a smile, going for his usual cheeky self. Hopefully, she buys it.

“Nothing to worry about, Andy.” Walden snatched another shot glass half-filled with alcohol from another unsuspecting victim to make a point. “You know I can handle my liquor.” 

She was skeptical of Walden. She had him memorized. They had spent so many years together that Andromeda had felt like she knew him as well as her own sisters, but his latest behavior had her questioning that. She didn’t want to believe that he was pulling away from her. She wanted to believe that they held the same relationship that always held. She was worried that he was slipping away from her.

She did know he could handle his liquor. She had been to enough functions with him to see how well he manages after a high amount of shots. It amazed her in the beginning. She didn’t know that someone could be like that without the use of some sort of potion, but Walden had proven to be the exception. Now, however, his skill merely made her purse her lips. “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.” She didn’t want to sound like a mother giving her child a lecture. 

Instead, she sighed and slipped a shot glass from some Gryffindor’s hand. “At least tell me the alcohol is decent, Walden.”

He is quiet as her eyes met his. Quiet as she unreservedly plucked out an entire bottle of firewhiskey, showing no reaction, good or otherwise. Quiet as she gave a careful assessment of his conduct. People were always quick to assume his doings and he would let them. Most would entirely misconstrue him, but what did he care? What others thought didn’t matter to him. He takes this moment to grab her free hand instead. Her left hand. It was one of the few touches he allowed himself; swallowing the sliver of unease down at such a small, but extremely intimate, act for him. Such an innocent act stirs visions of purplish marks and splatter of crimson in the back of his thoughts, but he breathes through it as his thumb and middle finger rub smooth, soft circles along her knuckle and palm right above her ring finger. It was a reminder to himself that he could be soft. Those rough, cracked hands of his could do something besides bruise. How long has it been since he has last allowed himself to touch anybody without the intent to harm?

Staring down at their hands with bizarre interests, his brows jut inward causing a tiny wrinkle to form between them. Unlike most situations, he really didn’t know what he was doing here, with her. So he continues to stare at the space where he allowed himself to connect with somebody as he presses his thoughts for an apt response. He settles with the truth: “You are my first visit.” She was his first thought.

The touch had taken her by surprise. She was no stranger to being touched. Her sisters braiding her hair on a lazy summer afternoon. Her linking arms with either Evan or Amelia when she wishes to be away from a certain situation. The very slight touches she allows herself to have with Ted. Even with those she held romantic connections with, the act of touch wasn’t foreign to her. With Rabastian, however, it was. She could remember few and far between times when he would touch her. She could remember their first year when he had given her a slight peck on the lips and she had grown angry at the fact that he was her first kiss She could remember a few pureblood parties where he would wander over to her and pretend as if their engagement was something they decided and not something chosen by their parents. This, however, wasn’t prompted by anything.

Her eyes merely stared at their interlocked hands. She focused on that, then on his words, before finally, she remembered the bottle of alcohol in her other hand. Without warning, she moved her hand away from his and used it to open up the new bottle of firewhiskey. She poured herself a glass before assessing his statement. “I suppose it could only go up from here, hm?” Her mind refused to believe that this was anything more than getting their interaction out of the way.

Had Rod expected cold words to be returned to him after he spoke out loud? No, he didn’t until he looked to who the words belonged to and saw that it was Andromeda Black. The older pair of Black sisters weren’t shy about their distaste for him, he’s noticed, and while it may have stung weaker people Rod kept the words from affecting him. With a short laugh, he picked up whatever alcohol was near and examined it. “I would but it wouldn’t be in Hogwarts. It would be where no undesirable people could gatecrash whenever they wanted.” He poured himself a glass, if he is going to endure this party and horrible alcohol, he might as well just get it over with. “I figured if Ludo Bagman was hosting this lavish affair, he would have put more effort into the drinks hence my incredulous statement.” 

Her eyes swept over the older Lestrange brother. Even if he wasn’t related to her fiance, the fact that he was meant to be marrying her sister meant that she was going to be critical of him. She felt the same way about Lucius Malfoy. She always held a protective streak with her sisters, just like she knew her sisters held for her. “If it’s like all of the other pureblood functions, then you can keep my invitation.” It wasn’t a snub on him, per-say, but on the balls and parties, they’re dragged to due to their status. There were only so many times she could dress up and discuss allegiances and wedding plans before she grew restless at the notion. She glanced around the room. Her eyes noted all of the drunk or slightly intoxicated students before a small smirk formed on her lips. “It seems like most students seemed to find his selection decent.”

Passing through the throng of filth and latter that surrounded her with a large scowl upon her features, her eyes flashed as a younger year almost spilled their drink upon her outfit — Bellatrix’s fingers itching to cast a hex at them for daring to land a single drop. Moving briskly past them towards the darker corners of the Party, her eyes scoured the crowd for someone that she could tolerate; the likes of Evan, Lucius or Barty. Disappointed to find none of her Junior Death Eaters, she began to pick up the nearest drink as her gaze continued to survey the surrounding individuals. Yet the moment she noticed a certain couple seem to be rather enjoying themselves upon the nearest couch, a look of distaste appeared upon her features at their rather avid lovemaking before her attention towards a rather familiar looking red haired individual. A small brief smile appearing upon her lips at the appearance of her sister, she rolled her eyes in response as she replied, “What else would you expect from a bunch of filth?”

Andromeda was surprised her sister had stuck around this long. She didn’t think her sister would wish to be around muggle-borns for longer than a few minutes, but she supposed there were enough purebloods around to keep her company. She shook her head at her sister’s assessment. An amused look formed on her face, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Not much, I suppose. Maybe a bit more decency, but I guess that’s above them.” She didn’ truly believe the words she spoke, but it was just the natural way of speaking in her family. They were made to talk down to those, not like them. Her eyes scanned the room again for some familiar faces, but when it came up empty she settled on her position next to her sister. “Have you seen Cissy around?” She had yet to see their youngest sister, but she was sure she was at the party. The Black sisters always managed to go together.

Ted might not have gone to the party were it not for the fact that he was absolutely positive that someone would end up hurt and needing the future medical professional’s help. He always had at least a handful of potions on him for headaches or upset stomachs, and despite the odd sight, he carried his backpack around as he maneuvered the party, getting around the gaggle of students who were drunkenly stumbling about. The bag had various bandages and things to help out anyone who might need a hand. 

He also had Belle sitting on his shoulder, nuzzling at his face every so often. She was getting big, maybe too big to be carrying around with him everywhere, but the cat was his emotional support, and as he settled onto a couch, she jumped into his lap, kneeding and getting comfortable, but still alert. Protective little animal, she was. His fingers lightly scratched at the back of her head as he surveyed his surroundings, not noticing at first when someone joined him, not noticing until the cat in his lap hissed and he jerked his head down to look at her, shushing her softly before turning his attention to his new companion. “Sorry, she’s not the friendliest. But she won’t bite. Probably. You alright?”

Andromeda had looked for him as soon as she entered the premises. She always found herself looking for Ted Tonks. It wasn’t something she was proud of, but it became a habit she couldn’t break. She had grown used to his presence as they patrolled the halls for mischievous students out past curfew. Their uneasy start melted away to some sort of strange friendship as they conversed about their desire to be healers and other topics they had common ground in.

Even though she knew it was a bad idea, Andromeda still found herself wandering over to Ted. If asked, she could claim that she mistook him for someone else, or that she indulged past her limit. Either way, she found herself sitting on the same couch as him. She was about to speak to grab his attention before she heard a hiss and glanced down to his see cat. If it had been any other cat or any other setting, she would’ve levitated the cat far away. This, however, was Ted’s cat, so she reluctantly played nice.

“I’m fine.” She said, glancing up to meet his gaze. “Callista does the same thing.”

WHEN: Friday, September 16th. WHERE: Room of Requirement. WHO: Evan & @andrablacks​.

Evan was tired. He was tired of the pureblood hierarchy, he was tired of Rita Skeeter, and he was mostly tired of feeling like shit. She’d gotten under his skin and he was still reeling from the conversation. It was only the start of the school term and he was already counting down the days until he never had to see that spaghetti noodle ever again.

“Oh thank Merlin Andy it’s you,” Evan sighed, coming across his cousin and immediately latching to her arm. He was itching to get out of the room, eyeing the door not too far away and wondering if maybe Andy would escape with him. “Just had the worst conversation with Skeeter, but hows your party going? I noticed that our betrothed’s left with each other.”

Andromeda had enough of the party. After talking to those she felt like talking to, she was ready to leave and head back to her dorm. Perhaps she would spend the time studying up on her homework since her desire to be the best didn’t rest despite the time of day. She was about ready to sneak through the door when she felt someone latch onto her arm.

Her first instinct was to rip her arm away from the culprit, but when light eyes settled on her cousin, she allowed his grip to remain. Her head cocked to the side at his observation before a light laugh left her lips. “Did they? Maybe they ran off to get married. Would save us the time.” Andromeda didn’t quite know if Evan felt the same way about his fiance that she felt about hers. She tried to avoid the topic altogether, so her knowledge was limited to her sisters and their feelings towards their marriages.
