Just a blog to put all kinds of stuff in. Asian, female, more asexual by the day, weird English(working on it), sometimes writes crazy amount of tags + sometimes just a lazybutt, CP shippings whimsical and shameless. Currently into Walter Moers, Tomo Takabayashi, Susanna Clarke, whose novels I'm all still trying to get to the bottom of.

one cool thing about having an autistic dad whose special interest is underwater spearfishing is that when he catches fish he'll just call up a nearby chinese restaurant like "hi. i caught a fish. can you cook it and i'll bring my family by?" and they're like "yeah sure come on over white boy" and the fish is delicious.

it's worth adding that my mom is chinese and she always gets embarrassed by this. like she doesn't want to come to the restaurant with us. she doesn't want to be seen with the white man she caught plus the fish that her white man caught. everyone who works at the restaurant thinks my dad is awesome and compliments him + her for choosing him and we all find this very fun except for her.

although... knowing what i know of the chinese (source: am one) the cultural horror of what's said not representing how you're socially evaluated nor how your social resource is decided, especially existing as a female person pulling weight on decorum might justify a semi- double landscape of meanings for your mom's feelings op XD it's a very silent and uniform culture and doesn't always have the precise and truthful symbols for "gosh you're weird but we're pals" of the friendly middle grounds. not to say this is what's meant there, i'm sure everyone does mean the warm fidelity, and your mom almost definitely doesn't live that world anymore, but the instinct to expect it might be somewhat lingering....ask her the whys! talk deep and true and make her ponder with the whys!

thinking about the super mario chess set (the one where mario and luigi are the white king and queen respectively) and how to assign mario characters to the chess pieces in a more Thoughtful way. I think that mario and luigi should be knights (there's two of them and their main skill is jumping. come on) and that peach should be one of the kings (the object of the game is to prevent the other player from kidnapping your monarch). most importantly though the official mario chess set has the pawns just be Coins and Shells when the most obvious thing would be toads and goombas. anyway nintendo hire this jan etc

Thinking today about a post I saw some time ago about how wearing glasses shouldn't be considered a disability because it's "socially acceptable" and also about how I haven't been able to update my prescription for 2 years because I just cannot afford an optometrist visit or new frames.

I understand the impulse to say bad vision doesn't count because glasses are such a normal part of our society we don't even think of them as a disability tool anymore, bur the fact is if something happens to my glasses, I am Fucked. I can't drive. I can barely do everyday tasks. Working is going to be impossible. Even if I scrounge the money to get new frames, I have to wait WEEKS for them to arrive. And what happens to me in that time frame? Nothing good, I can tell you that. I literally need this tool to function on a daily basis, because my vision is bad enough to seriously disrupt my life without them.

If anything, glasses are a great example of what society could be if we took MORE disability seriously. If we had actual tools so readily available and normalized you saw them everywhere. But that doesn't make me not disabled, because the minute I lose access to that tool, I can't function.
