Alan examining my kit, 2022 This is a portrait I took of artist Alan Constable as part of @artsprojectaust contribution to #portrait23 at @portraitau, which has just opened in Canberra. Alan, who is legally blind, deaf and non-verbal, is well known for his stunning ceramic cameras. I often see Alan at work in the studio at Arts Project inquisitively examining photos of cameras at close distance, to then create in clay. This is where I got the idea for this portrait. Sitting Alan on my collapsible step in the Arts Project foyer, feet firmly planted on the tactile studs (for the vision impaired), 3 tones of my favourite green surrounds, I opened my kit and let him go through the contents.
