Tobacco-Stained Mountain Goat turned 9 today!
Meet Ellen, a.k.a. Nameless Nobody - words by me and art by Chris Wahl. She's a recent inductee to #TheFenders and had an interesting trip getting there. This strip first appeared in the 'Australia' anthlogy via #Comicoz. and then through Dirty Rotten Comics in the UK; It then featured in the #Alterna anthology 'IF' in the U.S. Now? We've pulled a Raymond Chandler and recycled the piece. With just a couple of changed words, the whole nature of the strip is altered. Yes, Burleigh Heads on the Gold coast is still Burleigh Heads, but Melbourne is our Gotham/Metropolis/Central City, Mega-City-One and therefore redubbed Heropa. This will be reappearing in #Magpie zine.
I have a new comic coming out in Melbourne shortly, issue one of #TheFenders. feat. Dan Daniel Watts Dan Watts on art and Marie Mour doing lettering which also combines another new strip I've done with Gareth Colliton: #Onna Bugeisha. I'm so proud of both ventures that they needed to be seen by other comic book buffs. However I didn't want to bludgeon people with yet another Kickstarter or Patreon campaign. So... I've decided to outsource, by offering interested parties the chance to invest early in the first issue, which will be a limited edition print-run, hence reserving copies for a flat $7 fee plus postage [$10 international or $5 to locals]. This postage would be waived if you want to pick it up from us directly at the launch, which will be held at #SantaCarla in Brunswick in around July. Well, after the medical shananigans of the past year I'm not exactly rolling in dosh to lob aruound at print-runs Doing this also helps us to gauge early on just how attractive the new title is to fellow punters, especially when considering a second issue. Basically I'd like to come close to covering the costs of the printing, while splitting any excess with the artists. Assembling #1 as a labour of love is one thing, but continuing requires an element of belief and support.
Anyhow, what's in it for you? A collector's item first issue that's split between colour and B&W, guest-starring Magpie from the pages of OiOiOi!! The Fenders are a hotch-potchof supers heavily influenced by silver age Marvel and DC groupings like the Fantastic Four, Doom Patrol, X-Men and the Avengers. Scion of a long-line of female samurai, from a secretive location in the mists of Japan's Kuril Islands, Onna Bugeisha is a joint homage to Japanese culture, noir, and 75 years of Wonder Woman. Oh and we'll also likely be serializing #Tobacco-StainedMountain Goat, a sci-fi/dystopia romp based on my first novel...
The number of pages is as-yet-unconfirmed as we're currently still finalizing the magazine - but it will be around 16 pages in length. If you ARE interested, just PM me directly and I'll let you know how to proceed. Ta for any and all support out there.
So we’re printing a ltd edition version of #1 of #The Fenders, feat. #OnnaBugeisha, thanks to Dan Watts, Marie Mour and Gareth Colliton.
I finally was able this morning to re-access my blog and rambled about what *really* went down last year:
