“No, I can’t,” Oliver agreed with a nod. It wasn’t something you could tell around, and he easily told others that he was a simple guard working here and there, even though that wasn’t the case anymore. “There’s more than catching pets. It’s about keeping people safe, unharmed… well, as unharmed as possible. It’s for greater good, keeping up the peace in this place. If I wasn’t here there could be someone dickhead in my place, taking unfair advantage of his position. I simply try to be better than that.“

There was dry humor in her last question since that was practically their first meeting; he did let her go unharmed but still a little scarred. However, she didn't seem to have actually learned from her lesson because she still did encounter a different master who wasn't too keen on letting her go unpunished. “ well, for what it’s worth, i do like you better than the other guards, ” she admitted quietly before adding in a split second, “ you’re less of a dick than they are. ”

“I’m not really that surprising guy. Just a regular dude like anyone else, except I work… here, where most people might not work but still.” Sometimes he felt like there was nothing exciting about him, probably good since he wasn’t supposed to even attract any of the pots.. or masters. Oliver laughed briefly, shaking his head. “It’s just… Don’t most of us just work for money? It’s simply nice to know that I’m actually doing something good around here.”

“ you work in the slave trade. oon’t you think that would be surprising enough to anyone who’s not currently residing here? not that you can tell anyone outside, ” Andromeda continued to assume with a light shrug of her shoulders. “ yeah, workers are economically motivated but i’d like to believe that there’s a higher reason than just simply money. ” It was a little naive of her to think that but the world couldn’t just simply revolve around money. “ and what kind of good are you doing? catching pets who are trying to escape out of this place? ”

“CLOSE,” SARITA GAVE a hollow chuckle at the guess, not exactly heartbroken about actually needing to clarify her situation. “But that’s almost embarrassing on my end. No — I’m wasting my husband’s,” the word left her lips sourly, “Hit them where it hurts, right?”

“ your husband? ” Andromeda repeated though she heard her quite loud and clear. Shrugging her shoulders at the mistress’ comment, the young girl continued dryly, “ and your husband, does he know that you’re here? did he cheat on you and this is your form of revenge? ”

“YES,” SARITA’S LIPS curled mischievously at the comment, more than happy to remember how much this place cost. “But not my money, of course. That’s the best part. What place would be more embarrassing to pour someone else’s salary into than a vacation-home-style whore house?”

“ so you’re wasting your parents’ money to get back at them? ” Andromeda assumed since it was the first thing that came to her mind. She used to do the same thing after all except for the buying a ticket to an expensive vacation-home-style whore house as the mistress gladly put it.

Oliver laughed briefly at that, shaking his head. “I’m very sorry to disappoint you, but no, I’m not. A friend of mine heard about the open spot and I thought I would give it a try. I had worked as a guard at malls and nightclubs, I simply wanted something new.“ He knew that morally his choice could be questionable, but he felt like he was actually doing something good here. There were always people applying for malls, but this place was different.

“ it would have made a more interesting story if you lied and said you were,” Andromeda quipped in, then letting his continue with his explanation. Listening to him, a small frown appeared on her lips as she shook her head. “ well that wasn’t surprising at all, i haven’t really expecting anything more from you, ” she remarked sarcastically. He was different from the other guards she met so she was expecting something else, a much deeper meaning as to how he ended up working here.

Biting down her bottom lip, Delilah tried to think of a compromise that she could offer the brunette who was clearly annoyed. “Uhm– have you tried asking someone to take you outside?”

“ not really. i don’t wanna owe any of them something, ” she replied with a slight shrug of her shoulders, refraining from rolling her eyes at the other woman.

“I don’t even know. I mean, guards have their own things, but they’re not really taking responsibility of anything else but protecting us, right? There must be some real weird guys pulling the threads around and making stupid decisions no one likes,” Ellie said with a small scoff. She was interested to see a few movies, but camping or anything like that would’ve been something amazing.

“ i don’t think the guards are the ones calling the shots here, there must be some higher power. someone who’s far too important to grace us with their presence, ” Andromeda continued sarcastically as she rolled her eyes, not at the woman in front of her but towards the other person they’re talking about.

“Good,” he said. He had no doubts on that this time the girl would actually keep her words, she had seen what he could do and he was sure neither of them wanted to make it happen again. “Yes, of course,” Oliver assured instantly. He understood it could be a sensitive subject. And right now he didn’t wish to bring her mood down. “Anything else you’d like to discuss about?” It wasn’t like ther had to talk about anything at all.

It was a sensitive topic for the young girl, one that she would rather not talk about at all. She had made her mistakes and had faced the consequences. Now, she just wants to forget all about it. When the guard didn't continue to pry, the smile on her lips didn't falter. “ since we’re done talking about me, let’s talk about you. how did you end up working in this place? are you some kind of ex-convict that couldn’t get a job outside? ”

“TO A BUNCH OF rich stiffs who came here for the experience? Don’t think so. Wouldn’t be appreciated, anyway.” What was likely meant as insult instantly twisted her mouth into a sly grin, “That’s exactly what I’m here for.”

Andromeda wasn't trying to intentionally insult the mistress, she was just too blunt for her own good. She had a mouth that always get her in trouble but it was difficult for her to control her words. “ and you couldn’t have done that in your home? you needed to waste money just to laze around? ”

Huxley scribbled out a line of text in one of the various notebooks he had strewn about the table in the library, the glow of his laptop illuminating his features. He was in the process of character creation, random tidbits of information about his newest protagonist floated out of his head and onto the page even though he knew he would never use any of it in the final novel. It was almost a compulsion.

He glanced up and cleared his throat. “Did you want to ask me something or?” He trailed off

After letting herself be seen vulnerable during that night of the thunderstorm, Andromeda didn’t know how to act around the people who witnessed it. Arriving to the library to return a book she took out to read overnight, she wasn’t expecting to see him there with a lot of clutter on the desk. Before she could even make her escape, she was already caught by his sight.

“ i just came here to return a book. what are you doing? ”

“I MIGHT BE WRONG, but I think they’ve done campfire before. Probably trying to expand their options. Or being lazy,” her shoulders lifted lazily, only answering the voice out of pure boredom. “Either way, I’m fine with the option that requires the least mount of effort on my end.”

“ just because they’ve done something before doesn’t mean that they can’t repeat it again, ” Andromeda remarked with an indignant huff as she continued to pace back and forth in the common room. “ so, what? you’re just here to be lazy and not do anything? ”

“ i have to admit that it’s better than nothing but they could have thought of something so much better. i’m so tired of being indoors. ”

“Don’t you like Disney Movies?” Delilah asked the brunette as she tilted her head a little. The girl was very fond of anything Disney related and honestly, she prefers to stay indoors and just watch a good movie. It’s not like she would be getting another chance to watch in the theater.

Andromeda was tempted to lie and say that she didn't like them at all, but in the end she just let out an annoyed grunt. “ i do, but i wanna go outside. i don’t wanna sit still and just watch some movie, ” she whined with a roll of her eyes as she plopped herself down the couch.

“Thank god I’m not only one thinking that!” Ellie commented, smiling at the brunette a little. Maybe she hadn’t talked to her, but she had to admit the girl had a point. They would’ve deserved to go out and have some fun, instead of gathering people again together to watch movies. Even if she absolutely loved Disney movies with her whole heart and she was looking forward to seeing every each one of them through the day.

“ these people are so stupid. who even gives the orders around here? ” Any day, she would have loved to watched Disney movies but right now, all she wanted to do was get out of this place even just for a few hours. Although Andromeda hasn't lost hope on getting out of this place one day. She’s just really tired of being cooped up inside and just wanted to bask under the sunlight.

“ as promising as those disney movies sound, why couldn’t we have a beach day or a camp fire night instead to make up for the storm? ” Andromeda huffed as she talked to no one in particular. The storm had been a distraction but now, she’s just tired of being confined indoors.
