The doors of perception (1970 ed., cover design by Pat Steir)
“If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, Infinite.”

"I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware; nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself, we are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self...an accretion of sensory experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody is nobody. Maybe the honourable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal."
- Rust Cohle, True Detective 1.1

"This is a city of shifting light, of changing skies, of sudden vistas. A city so beautiful it breaks the heart again and again."
- A.M. Smith
Do not struggle. Go with the flow of things, and you will find yourself at one with the mysterious unity of the Universe.

Corin Sworn // Inverleith House RBGE
Extract from the accompanying exhibition text:
The exhibition also follows a period of study by the artist at the Royal Botanic Garden’s Herbarium, during which time Sworn developed an interest in the properties of plants used in natural dyeing.
While - from reading previous comments left in the exhibition’s feedback book - it seemed that most visitors not only hadn’t read, in order to further understand the work, the accompanying text but failed to find in themselves any appreciation for a fine execution of craft as a curated art form; it is easy to see how the works here could be overlooked. The work is understated, less than minimal and appears curiously amateur; indeed this sense of innocent exploration, intrigue and learning are what preserves the procedural works’ almost scientific purity. Meanwhile the more experimental photographic prints and her projected film installation The Rag Papers reveal the inherent, developed, maturity of her themes, curiosities and experiences.
photographs used are my own from the visit // the exhibition is open until 29th June 2014
"Come again, and pass the roach clip, toke it up, smoke it up, every last bit, yo, keepin it comin', hit after hit, with your head in the sky and your shoes in shit. But do you care, when you smokin' the rare, with your brain flyin' high on the road to nowhere?"

Star Birth in the Carina Nebula
A towering “mountain” of cold hydrogen gas laced with dust is the site of new star formation in the Carina Nebula (NGC 3372). The great gas pillar is being eroded by the ultraviolet radiation from the hottest newborn stars in the nebula. This portion of the Carina Nebula is home to some of the most intense star formation in the Milky Way galaxy.
