A Bloody Introduction || @HardertoHeal
To say that the Doctor was an expert on murder would be going a bit too far. He wasnât an expert; he was hardly more than a novice. But he was a fast learner, and he was careful, and when there was a means to an end in sight, he would walk that path, no matter how much blood had to be spilled to get him there. At least, he reminded himself with his hands shoved in his pockets, it wasnât the blood of the innocent.
The Doctor kept his head down low, his shoulders hunched. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up against the collar of his jacket, and he resisted the urge to scratch the itch. He knew he was being followed, had noticed her two or three blocks back. Recognised her face from somewhere else, but he couldnât quite place where. Files heâd picked up on the Company, maybe. Heâd have to check his NotePad. He supposed it was inevitable, really, that theyâd have sent somebody after him. You didnât go on a vendetta mission against an organisation with that much power without expecting some repercussions, after all. He was honestly surprised it had taken them this long to do something about him.
No matter. He was almost where he wanted to be. Pausing for just a brief moment, the man known only as the Doctor, now, hurried into a side-alley, bending down and lifting off the lid of a manhole cover heâd loosened weeks ago for just this reason. He hefted and moved it to the side, dropping down the relatively short drop, not bothering to try replacing the cover before he hurried through the tunnels of the sewers, trying to remember which ones led to the alley beside his hotel.
Oh, something was definitely up. Romana could practically hear alarm bells going off in the other party's head. She sorely hoped that he makes a run for it, desperately wanting a challenge. However, he didn't strike her as a runner - an avoid-er of public confrontation, perhaps, but definitely not a coward. So, she continues to follow, knowing that if she's patient, he'll make his move and she'll be more than ready to take cut him down. She was confident in her abilities, maybe even a little arrogant - and why shouldn't she be? He had probably never come across an assassin of her... caliber before. Most were in it for the money, Romana, most certainly was not.
Romana froze when he paused, her heart skipping a beat, and, just as she suspected, he ducked into an alley. He was fast;m surprisingly so. If she had taken her eyes off him for a split second, she wouldn't have clocked it. The gun concealed in it's holster had never felt heavier. She quickened her step, determined not to lose him.
She slipped easily into the alley, removing the weapon as she went. It didn't take more than a second to realize exactly where he disappeared to. She huffed an aggravated sigh. It would be the sewer, wouldn't it? Not that she wasn't unaccustomed to running through the bowels of city. She just tried to avoid it if and when she could. Her nose wrinkled - it was a particularly rank one at that, too.Â
Holstering the gun securely, she dropped through the man hole. It took a minute for her eyes to adjust to the lack of light. She listened, her instincts telling her that he moved off to the right - as did she. "Doctor!" She called through the splish-splash of the water. "Let's stop playing this game!" He could hear her, Romana was certain of it. "It's time to stop running!" She crept carefully through the darkness, eyes peeled for movement, "Give me what I came for, and I'll leave you in peace. We'll hear no more it, mm?" Was he fool enough to face her? She certainly hoped so.
