mick is so upset about le mans...

like not only does he seem to be wiping his face after crossing the finish line (i swear to god that better just be sweat), his instagram post is actually passive agressive (the change from "we" to "i"). a completely different vibe than what would be considered normal by his standards.

i pray to all the gods above that those f1 teams (cough cough cadillac cough cough) will bother to actually take the time to look at his laps and not only at that result.

Rosberg and Schumacher

Do you ever think about the parallels between Nico Rosberg and Mick Schumacher? Both having fathers who were world champions and thus growing up in their shadows, bound to always be recognized first for what their fathers achieved, then for their own accomplishments. Both growing up in Monaco but competing under the german flag. Both wanting to prove that they are more than their last names. And, do you ever think about how differently they were treated? Nico ridiculed for his blond locks, and never seen as a real German. Bullied by Seb and Michael for being a nepo-baby who grew up rich in Monaco. Disliked by most of the senior drivers, never accepted. Even when he was beating seven time world champion Michael Schumacher in equal machinery. And, do you ever think about how Seb, who so openly disliked Nico, opened his arms to the young Mich Schumacher. Mick, with his blond locks and privileged childhood, who grew up in Monaco, just like Nico. How different they were treated, despite their almost identical back stories. Mick immediately recognized as a real german, even going on to compete in the race of champions with Seb several times for team Germany. I don’t mean to blame Seb, and what he did for Mick is beautiful. However, one does wonder, looking back, might Nico have deserved the same treatment? Did Nico watch as Mick was welcomed with open arms and think to himself, what did I do to deserve the ridicule?

I actually thought about this and I think the reason why Mick was welcomed with open arms compared to Nico is because of the huge respect a lot of the drivers have for Michael. Some drivers on that grid were able to race against him (Nando, Lewis, Kimi, Seb), some were able to meet him in person as young karters (Carlos*, Charles**, and Lando***), and some were able to watch him race as young kids (Esteban, Lance, Alex, etc). Not that Keke Rosberg was not worthy of respect, though, it's just that I think the drivers had a lot more connection with Michael than with Keke.

In addition, all of them knew what happened to Michael in 2013. I'm sure they at least know that Michael's family has gone through a lot since the accident, and I guess they did not want to add to that by being an asshole to Mick.

*As a kid, Carlos was a companion to his dad when he visited the F1 paddock. That was how he met Michael (and also Nando).

**Charles met Michael when he was testing at Paul Ricard while there were karters using the karting track.

***Lando has mentioned in an interview that since he and Mick raced together as kids, he met Michael at one of those races.

Oh definitely, but I do feel bad for Nico, especially with how Coulthard and the red bull guys treated him. Because Nico definitely looked up to a lot of those guys! But also I think the culture of how rookies are treated have changed so much so that probably also plays into it! Just look how nice Max and Lewis are to Hadjar and Kimi, and I think that is the way it should be! Like sure they are competitors but coming into f1 today it is such a rough climate, and so the drivers being nice to each other is kinda needed...

That too; times have definitely changed and drivers learned that they did not have to be assholes to the rookies, and knowing how brutal some teams could be to their drivers (*cough cough RED BULL cough cough*), I'm sure the older ones do not want to aggravate the pressure that rookies are already feeling even before the season begins.

Despite the "what ifs" that Nico might have about his time in F1 as a rookie ("What if I was treated better? What if I was not bullied?") I think he is more relieved that the young ones don't have to go through what he did back then.
