Let me bring up that scene between Art and Omni-man after he returns. The last time Art saw Omni-Man was the Chicago event, where he beat his own son through an entire city, and then into the Earth.
Let's not forget to add anything and everything Mark has mentioned about Omni-man after Thraxa—Art most likely thought Omni-man was dead.
Then Art is cornered outside his place of work by the same monster that destroyed Chicago, and Omni-man is suddenly acting very friendly. (The first time Art met Omni-man, the Viltrumite was talking mad shit about the fit.)
I don't remember if they mentioned, but notice how Art doesn't invite Omni-man inside. Art could have easily multi-tasked working and conversation, he's shown doing so in scenes with others, but they stay outside on the roof, and later it's used as an excuse to leave.
Then, there's the act of turning down Omni-man's advances. When Omni-man asks about Paul, there's obviously red flags raised around that question. Art asks Omni-man if he's sure he wants to know, but doesn't hesitate to share honestly after that.
Art hyperventilating after Omni-man leaves didn't surprise me in the slightest, I wasn't convinced he was chill with the man for a second.
This compares to everyone else who visibly cowers in front of Omni-man, but this is also why Art is a super dope character, since he's someone predominantly surrounded by heroes and he's heard so many stories.
Now, we know that Nolan isn't about to do anything to Art, and we know Art doesn't know that, but Nolan hears Art's heart rate. He knows the old man is terrified and shitting his pants, but he sticks around anyways.
I think this scene really stuck with me because it felt like Nolan really needed some friendly human interaction (and to find out more about Debbie/Paul) and Art was unfortunately the perfect/only person to go to.
thanks for reading my discussion post lol
I have indeed finished Invincible, can you guess my favorite character???
Every empire needs a Thaedus.
You know, I think Thaedus' opinion of Viltrumites being inherently evil is because, unlike all the Viltrumites that went to earth, he didn't actualy GET to live a life with less violence and genuen care. He saw another spicies do better, and he probably thought they could do better too but gave up on the idea very soon.
How i see it, he thinks every Viltrumite, including him, is inherently evil because he didnt even prove to himself that HE isn't inherently evil. Mark was borm and raised on earth and rejects Viltrum phylosophy competely; Nolan had once followed it (but had SOME doubts, most likely same as his father) and once he met Debbie and lived a few years with humans he could never go back, same with the Viltrumites that went to earth to repopulate but got Trojan horse of actual love and care.
Thaedus didn't have that, he only had a realisation that he DOESN'T like how his people do things, but never got to see, nor live, like all the more peacefull people. He didn't have his Debbie or his team of superheroes, he just a picture of what it looks like and he wasn't in it.
He disagrees with Viltrumites, but still sees all of them as inherently evil. The courage virus was a necessary evil in his eyes (and unfortunately, it kinda was because it did save many other planets by killing like 90% of Viltrumites).
Thaedus is just Viltrum phylosophy coming back to bite everyone on the ass, including himself, but he thinks it's 100% needed.
Tl;dr: Thaedus' opinion says more about him and less about whether or not the empire's people are 100% evil. He is this way because he is aware of other spicies' ability to be kind, but never got a proof that he or his own people can do it.
“Thaedus is just buff Socrates” is an amazing take.

TW: Rape mention
Since neither the show or the comics explain why Thaedus rebelled against the Viltrum empire beyond him being against their ‘evil’ and ‘tyrannical’ ways (and according to Thragg he came back from an unspecified planet and started to talk about ‘mercy’) then I propose my headcanon that Thaedus is the first ‘queer’ Viltrumite.
Queer as we know is an umbrella term that means not conforming to the heteronormative beliefs and attitudes of a society. So…
I mean queer as in, relative to Viltrumite society because…
Viltrumites pick their ‘mates’ based on a claiming system where a stronger one picks who they get to reproduce with, in other words they rape each other, and it’s purely for reproductive purposes because we know they don’t have intimate relationships and they’re ONLY form of connection with each other comes from respecting strength which translates to their violence and brutality so a Viltrumite not wanting to engage in that worship of strength and brutality is what then?
Their procedural and violent way of looking at reproduction is their equivalent of performing heteronormativity so a Viltrumite like Thaedus who is critical and repulsed by the overall violence perpetuated through Viltrumite occupation is arguable their equivalent of being queer.
Plus…
I just feel like the entire concept of a queer Viltrumite shatters their entire identity as a species because of how obviously patriarchal it is, (and as we know patriarchy exists to reinforce harmful heteronormative ideas) I mean yes their space fascists and Kirkman made them diverse so the story doesn’t have to tackle White Supremacy but their whole hyper masculine existence can’t be separated from patriarchal and heteronormative ideology because that’s literally what created these ideas in the first place.
Bear with the artblock pls
Look at our General bru 😭😭😭😭 got his shit rocked by Socrates 😭😭😭😭😭😭
