I drew this in 2011 when I lived in Missoula as a literal starving artist. A semi homeless, clueless, in the moment, despite my health young adult stealing bagels for breakfast and feeding unhealthy relationships with everyone. I erased the details that I was hung up on and finished it as an art challenge. So much has changed.
Trying again, playing for keeps. No scanner likes watercolor. I'm trying to get back on the train of cramped hands and obsessive creative fixation.
I'm a person of fixed obsession. Digging past the core of things, finding every crack on the surface and every pit in the skin. I have passion and curiosity. I get stuck in the mire of searching. When something catches my interest I'm wholey absorbed. I've been in this hole now for a while, I'm trying to come up for air.
Do you live in Minneapolis? Have you been there? Do I want to live there? Can you get me a job? Please reveal these things to meee. Also thanks for the recent love.
I always want to draw fan art but feel like I make the characters look dopey. I actually had fun with this and really like it. Thanks Judecca for breaking my dry spell. :) http://judecca.co.uk Read!

Shooting stars and spells, and of course, flowers: my take on Howl’s Moving Castle. I’m excited for the next one!

There's so much content. There's so much being created. So much! SO MUCH! I want to throw my money at everyone and then deconstruct the monetary system so all artists can trade their wares and survive to do nothing but ART. ALL THE TIME. FUCK. FULLY SUPPORT THAT SHIT.
Went to CAKE in Chicago and found out what I’d been missing all my life! The amazing comics community! I had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people and talking with creators like Sophie Goldstein, with her bright red lips and good advice, Amara Leipzig who became my first Chicago buddy and inspired me, Caitlin Skaalrud who shared a bite of cake and tea and gave me a mutant version of her amazing comic Tits! and many more.
I read a how to talk to artists at conventions comic a while back and I have to admit I thought of it the whole time. I was buzzing with excitement, nerves and the high energy of so many passionate people. I was a happy wreck. Everyone was so nice and eager to talk, it was hard not to buy everything from everyone who even looked at me. But I managed to find some great loot! Can’t wait for more conventions and to start making my own comics.
Local used book store score! One of these was .93 cents!
Things I learned drawing an unplanned short comic:
Hand lettering is lovely and fun but really needs to be laid out and practiced to be effective.
Text positioning has a huge effect on where the readers eye goes, how much of the image is being seen, and even conveying the emotion of the message.
Say what you have to say as soon as you can say it. Don’t drift off.
Understand your own metaphors; don’t fake meaning that isn’t there or that you don’t really believe. Be honest and humble.
Scripting and panelling will let you see the whole picture and make better choices.
Repeating words can be both effective to relay theme but also lazy and repetitive. Make careful word choices.
Sticking to a consistent ‘style’ and format helps everything feel tight and concise.
