I can’t believe I wrote a poem about wanting to kiss you and still was convinced I didn’t have a crush on you. Thank you for being so patient love

My dear lgbt+ kids,
“Be careful not to choose a typical trans name” is a piece of advice you’re allowed to ignore.
What even IS a typical trans name? Funnily enough, there are quite a few contradictionary ideas about that:
“The top 10 most popular baby names of your generation! Too many trans people choose one of them”. - Why not? These names are popular for a reason!
There’s nothing wrong with wanting a common name. It doesn’t mean you’re boring or uncreative. (And honestly, it has its perks to have a name people will actually know how to spell!)
“Uncommon names!” - Why not? Not everyone wants to share a name with three co-workers.
A lot of the stigma around uncommon names is based in racism and classism anyway. A name is not by default bad or cringey, just because it’s not popular with the white upper-middle class.
I could go on. Extremly feminine/masculine names are bad, they say. Genderneutral(-ish) names are bad, they say….
Every name a trans person could choose is apparently a “typical trans name”. You may as well choose whatever makes you happy and ignore them.
With all my love,

Have you not considered that the problem comes from within?
