He nodded, his eyes flicking to the window before coming back to rest on Sal,Ā āYes. Iām not going anywhere. Short of hellhounds dragging me away, Iām here to stay.āĀ
Hellhounds wouldnāt make it past the wards, so it was an idle threat, but it still stood, since Sal didnāt know what the wards could and couldnāt do. One day they would really have to sit down and talk about just how safe guarded this place was.Ā
āSleep is a blessed and wonderful thing.ā He pressed a soft kiss to Salās forehead, using a bit of magik to keep the nightmares away.
Salem felt relief wash over him because Markus was here to stay. Thank god. He wanted to wrap him up and never let him go, soak in his warmth and his scent. Everything that was Markus.
If Hellhounds did try to take his angel away from him then heād put up a fight, no matter how weak he was compared to Markus. If it would be the last thing he would do, it would be because he loved him.
āIt is. Iām so tired.ā Salem had found some sort of fresh sheets in the closet and he replaced the bed with them and he laid down with a long sigh.Ā āAre you going to get some sleep? You must need some to regain your energy.ā In other words, please lay with me so I can feel warm and safe.
Markus gave a half-shrugs,Ā āI will recharge my grace a bit, but I need to stay semi-alert until morning.ā As much as Markus wanted to curl up with Salem, he knew that he had to protect him first and fore most. If the angel slept and something happened, heād never forgive himself.Ā
āDo anything interesting while I was gone?ā The angel wasnāt sure if small talk was a good idea, but hearing the sound of Salās voice was like balm on his scorched nerves. Heād been gone for so long, that base interaction was difficult, but he knew he had to try.Ā
He couldnāt give up on trying to be better than he had been. His time away from Salem was a dark one, something heād rather not repeat. If he was home, home was the best place to be.Ā
