The moment Eleanor showed even the slightest sign of a smile, Charlie caught onto it.
“Aw, there it is. There’s the smile I’ve been waiting so see”, Charlie said in a playful manner before a smile spread across his face.
Charlie was rather playful with Eleanor, even if she wasn’t right now. His weaponized strategy was to smile, and spread it to Eleanor. It was contagious because of how genuine it was. One of the sweet things he used to whisper to Eleanor when it was just them in bed was how much he liked to see her smile.
Even now, Charlie was trying to make her smile by saying, “If there’s milk in the fridge, and some spoons in the drawers, then we are in business baby.”
Before Eleanor could comment how he called her baby, Charlie revealed her cake with an enthusiastic, “Ta-Da”. It was literally a giant cupcake with frosting, and her name on it. The whole thing was topped with an actual cherry on top. Charlie’s logic was, if he couldn’t make her smile with his enthusiasm, then this probably would.
Her smile grew at his comment, and she gave a small shake of her head. Charlie always had a way of making her smile. Somehow, he knew exactly how to slip past every wall she tried to keep up. "Then we're business," Eleanor told him, already walking to get the spoons and the milk for him. She deliberately ignored the way he'd called her baby, even though the single word had affected her far more than she'd admit. The moment she spotted the giant cupcake with her name written across it, her eyes went wide, and a surprised laugh escaped her. "You can't be real. I swear you can't," It was perfect. Thoughtful. Entirely him. For a second, she simply stared at it, afraid to blink. "I'm quite afraid I'm sleeping, and when I wake up, I'll be home alone."
"Well, the town is much better with you in it; I'm glad you're back, darlin'." Seeing her had always been a highlight of his day, but they'd never gone anywhere past friendship. A soft laugh left him and he shook his head. "It's alright if you want cheap snacks. Better than having to drive to the next town over for some shit, at the very least."
Lavender could feel her cheeks burn red after his comment while smiling shyly. "Is it?" She questioned him, nipping her lower lip nervously. For days, she had been questioning whether she should've come back, and here he was telling her the town is better with her in it. "Some nights all you need is cheap snacks and a movie," She chuckled. "Yeah, but it's fun to go to the other city too. No one knows us there, so they're not constantly taking care of our lives like they do here."

Here they were again. Another night, another call, another round of tears over the same fuckhead she'd somehow convinced herself she loved. Hunter had long since lost count of how many times he'd held her together after that man had torn her apart. Every single time, it chipped away at him. She didn't deserve any of it—not the lies, not the heartbreak, not the constant disappointment. For the longest time, he'd swallowed everything he wanted to say, choosing instead to be the shoulder she could cry on. But watching her break over the same person again and again was becoming unbearable. There was only so much silence he could force himself to keep. "I'm probably biased, but you deserve better than him," He admitted softly, meeting her eyes. "So much better."

"You're blocking the sun," Aubrey pointed out, quite annoyed. The bodyguard had barely left her side for a second since the pool party began. Life hadn't been the same since he'd been assigned to keep her safe. Being the president's daughter came with privileges, sure, but it also meant she could barely breathe, let alone live the life she actually wanted. "I think you need a drink," Bree suggested. "Maybe it'll wash away some of that bitterness. It'd certainly make coexisting with you a lot more bearable, because right now you're single-handedly ruining my party," And, though she'd never admit it out loud, her life. She missed having the freedom to make her own choices. "I promise I won't tell my father you had one."
Alex and Ellie never fit into the same friend group. The only three interactions they ever had were when they teamed up for a science project, a dance at the homecoming game, and one kiss at grad night. After going their separate ways, Alex remained in his home town, now owning his own library/ coffee shop. Aside from this, his gaze was just as intense as the one Ellie was giving him.
The years had been good to Alex. He was taller, his voice was a little deeper, and he clearly took care of himself. While different, the main two dead giveaways that he was the same person were his glasses, and that same genuine smile. In Alex’s eyes, Ellie was the same cutie he danced with at the homecoming game all those years ago. When Ellie gave him the compliment, his mouth was left agape.
“Well, well thank you. It’s just, clean living I guess…And YOU, you look amazing.” This was the part of Alex that never truly changed, the way he stuttered whenever he became flustered. Only Ellie had that kind of power over him. “Soooo….What brings you back to town?….”
Alex looked so different from what she remembered. She had always found him kind of cute, kind of nerdy, the complete opposite of the men she used to surround herself with. But God knows how the years had favored him. He looked undeniably hot, the deep voice sent an unexpected shiver down her spine and stirred thoughts that were anything but innocent. “Well, thank you. I’m still that petite little thing,” Ellie joked with height and chuckled. "You know, you're adorable when you get flustered." The blonde winked at him while smiling. “Things just didn’t work out for me out there, so here I am back in this town with the same old people,” She wasn’t exactly excited to be back. "Maybe fate had other plans for us," she teased, her smile turning a little more mischievous. "Who knows?" Tilting her head, she looked at him curiously. "So... what do you do for fun around here?"
Charlie was someone noticeably younger than Eleanor, but he was also someone intimately intertwined with Eleanor. He worked security in her building, but he was also someone who would purposely stay later whenever she worked after hours, just to make sure she was safe. This led to deep conversations, to spending after hours time together, to an intimate relationship with Eleanor.
While it only happens a few times, Eleanor set her foot down, saying they couldn’t be doing this because it could hurt their careers. Charlie did agree, but the longing was still there. They kept things professional, until Charlie heard that it was Eleanor’s birthday.
Without needing any kind of reason, other than it was her birthday, Charlie bought a cake, a single rose, and two silver bracelets, one for her wrist, and one for her ankle. Nothing stopped Charlie from marching directly to Eleanor’s place, even if she told him that he shouldn’t be there.
“I couldn’t let you spend your birthday alone”, Charlie told Eleanor, “Can I come it? I brought you a birthday gift.”
Charlie was incredibly handsome, and he treated her in a way no man ever had—not even her ex-husband. Yet there was one thing she couldn't ignore: he was much younger than she was. That thought lingered in the back of her mind, whispering doubts she wished she could silence. What would people say? That she'd seduced a younger man after failing to save her own marriage? Or something even crueler. They both knew society judged age-gap relationships differently depending on who the older partner was. A man dating a younger woman was admired. A woman dating a younger man became the subject of gossip. Her gaze drifted down to what he was holding. He had brought her a birthday cake... and a gift. A gift. No one had bought her a birthday present in years. Most people barely remembered the date, settling for a quick text message before moving on with their day. Yet there he was, standing at her doorstep with that warm smile, looking like the birthday wish she hadn't even realized she'd been hoping for. She wanted to tell him he shouldn't have. She wanted to refuse, if only to protect herself from how deeply his kindness affected her. But how could she deny him? It didn't feel right. The truth was, what she really wanted was to wrap her arms around him and kiss him, thanking him for making her feel so incredibly seen. Instead, Eleanor silently stepped aside, inviting him into her home. "I can't possibly eat an entire birthday cake by myself, can I?" she teased, a gentle smile tugging at her lips.

There was some logic to Eleanor’s point, although there was also an obvious answer - expensive wine had had so much extra attention put into it that a $20 version simply couldn’t compete with. But, whilst such a thought crossed Joe’s mind, he didn’t say that. Instead, he shrugged slightly at her words and chuckled. “I just… want to make sure you’ve got the best thing possible, no matter what it is,” he said, as if it were simple. “Wine, clothes, shoes, whatever, whatever. I just.. think you should have the best.” His bougie view came from good intent, but it was also a conversation they’d had many times before. Eleanor, it seemed, wasn’t to be bought. Ironic, for a man who could now buy a world he hadn’t had when growing up. Still, as her leg gently brushed his under the table, the touch making Joe’s heart skip a beat and then throb faster, any thoughts of money disappeared. Her praise for his home-cooked meal knocked them off entirely. “It could’ve been a disaster, I can’t lie. Nearly was, at certain points,” he confessed, a laugh coming from him then. “We were so close to takeout.”

"And why does giving me the best possible thing have to involve money instead of just… you? Us having a good time together?" the brunette asked, tilting her head slightly with a gentle smile, hoping he understood what she meant. "Look, I really appreciate how much effort you put into everything and how willing you are to give me the very best. I truly do. I just... don't really know how to handle all of this. I'm not used to it." They came from two completely different worlds. She was trying to find her place in his while, at the same time, inviting him into hers. Eleanor couldn't help but laugh at the thought of him cooking. "I can just picture you completely lost in the kitchen, trying to keep up with ten different things at once. You're not used to it." He was exceptional at many things, but cooking was still a skill he was learning. Still, she had no doubt he'd get there. Joe had a way of succeeding at whatever he set his mind to, driven by determination as much as ambition. "I'm really glad we didn't order takeout and that I get the honor of tasting your cooking. Thank you for making dinner for us." She lifted her wine glass toward him in a small toast. "Maybe next time I could cook for you... Or we could cook together. What do you think?"

Plot: Age-gap sugar daddy x sugar baby… but Joe is the sugar daddy while your older muse lives paycheque to paycheque. The twist? Your muse (for now…) won’t hear of Joe sugaring them. He wants to change that. Inspired partially by X.
“The wine was $20 dollars, I promise. I haven’t tried sneaking in a $2k bottle under the radar,” Joe teased, a knowing smile crossing his lips as he laughed. Their date night was as homely and lowkey as he could go, his black Amex remaining in his wallet and his connections entirely untapped. It was hard for Joe to not spoil the person opposite him, but they’d asked him not to, and he respected their wishes… for now, anyway.
Instead, he’d made them a meal by his own fair hand (and with the considerable help of Google and YouTube), resisting the temptation to whisk them off to some Michelin-starred place. Of course, respecting their wishes didn’t mean avoiding the subject again, and so Joe added, “Would it be so bad if the wine was expensive, though? I can afford it.” It wasn’t a sentence many people in their twenties could utter, but not everyone had sold a mega successful app like Joe had.
Eleanor chuckled at his comment and shook her head. "Why does it bother you so much that I want a $20 dollars bottle of wine instead of a 2k? I've been drinking them all my life. And they're good," She pointed out with a smile. She for sure did not have such a fancy taste for things like he did. Joe was young and had money for all his life already, while she had just enough for living the month. "I know you can afford it. But why spend so much money on me? I'm not used to the fancy things, you know," Her leg gently brushing against his under the table while her eyes were focused on the handsome, young man in front of her. "You don't have to do that to impress me, or whatever. You know what really impressed me tonight? You cooked for us. And that's really special for me." It was sweet and thoughtful of him.
“I do hope so. Do not share this, but I am a hopeless romantic,” Alastair confessed to his future wife. He desired to make the night as special as possible, with rose petals on the path from the Cathedral to the bedroom that they’d follow, lit by candle in each window.
”That is smart, my beautiful fiancée,” Alastair praised, walking closer to her and kissing her forehead affectionately. He wanted to hold her, even if it was “just” cuddling so they could share body warmth in the cold season. “Waiting is best, and beware — the council hears word of us trying and they will make you urinate on wheat frequently to check for pregnancy. I will make sure it is a female advisor helping you with that,”.
"Your secret is safe with me, your Highness," Anne smiled at him. The image of stern council members demanding wheat tests every few weeks was so absurd she nearly laughed again. Her smile softened as he spoke about his past, and she found herself studying him more carefully. There was no arrogance in his confession, no expectation—only honesty. "You know," she said quietly, looking for the man beside her, "I think that makes me feel better, not worse," Her thumb brushed on his arm gently. "Not because you've never lain with anyone, but because you cared enough to learn," Most men would never think to do that, the only thing that mattered was their pleasure. A playful glimmer returned to her eyes. "Though I must admit I am a little jealous. Courtesans are far more experienced than me," The woman bit her lower lip nervously. She knew they were much better at pleasuring a man than she was. After all, she has never been with one before. "And for what it's worth, I'm honored to be your future spouse." The words came out softer than she intended, carrying a sincerity she couldn't quite hide.
Their families went way back. It made sense then, that their early years had been moving through the same circles. Delilah's parents had insisted that she cut off contact with him when he broke tradition to forge his own path. They considered him a bad influence. They'd been careful to keep Delilah under their thumb, doing their best to raise her to be the perfect daughter. Someone who would marry rich and be a successful corporate pawn. She hated it; she always had. Cole had been an inspiration, but she still hadn't been brave enough to break out on her own.
"Who are you, my mother?" She questioned with a scoff. Delilah knew he'd been trying his best to keep his distance since he left, but she was stubborn. Her feelings for him wasn't just something she'd throw away because of how he viewed himself. "Please tell me you're coming this weekend? I don't want to deal with everybody myself."
A laugh escaped Colin before he could stop it. "God forbid. One of your mothers is already enough," Colin shook his head, but there was no real bite to the words. Delilah had always been one of the few people capable of dragging a genuine smile out of him. His gaze dropped for a moment. "You know why I keep saying this, Dee," Because you deserve better. The words remained trapped behind his teeth. He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, I'll be there. Somebody has to save you from the endless parade of rich assholes and their parents bragging about investment portfolios," A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. "I can't promise I'll be good company, though. Family events tend to bring out the worst in me." His eyes settled on hers, softening despite himself.
Let out a low chuckle, crossing his arms as he looked at her. It was obvious she was nervous, and he couldn’t help but find the situation amusing with how things had played out. "Relax. I have a lot of friends, its part of my work and you’re not to blame for anything. Things happen, and honestly, I only have good memories of you. So, if you were worried about what I might be thinking, you can let that go."
Rafael took a small step to the side, closing the distance between them just a little, but not in a way that felt intrusive. "But seriously, Hailey, you don’t need to apologize. I survived. And while I’m not usually one to believe in fate, I don’t think us running into each other again like this is just a coincidence. So... can I at least get your number this time?"
He flashed a wide, carefree smile. He only had a few days left in town before traveling for work again, and at the very least, he wanted to stay in touch with her.
Hailey was glad she was so cool with. Her anxiety had created many different scenarios in her head ever since and none of them was nice. She couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head as she looked up at him. "Wow. Using fate as a pickup line? That's either incredibly smooth or incredibly cheesy," Her smile lingered, though, betraying how charmed she was despite herself. "Since the universe seems so determined to keep throwing us at each other, I'll give you my number. Hand me your phone," She teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement. Rafael was fun to be around, not to mention incredibly hot. "But if fate turns out to be wrong about you, I'm blaming the universe."
Lola, who was already tired of dealing with others' expectations, let out a deep breath, settling back into the couch with a lightness that seemed to contradict her inner chaos. She pressed two fingers to her temples, not letting the situation faze her. "Yeah," she would say, without a hint of hesitation. Even she didn't quite know how she had gotten into this situation, like any other trivial request—"grab that book for me" or "get me coffee if you're passing by the avenue." "That's right. It's no big deal. You've done worse things before. Just pretend to be my boyfriend, we spend Christmas with my family, they’re happy, and in the end, everything goes back to normal. And magically, we break up on New Year's, so you're free..." She would continue, sounding completely at ease with the situation. "Unless you have something better to do on Christmas, in which case, I’ll understand."
Diego could see how stressed she was about it, and could only imagine what her family had been putting her through over the expectations they had of her in different areas of her life. Her life. They're supposed to let her have control of it, and just be there to support. "Shame, thought I'd get a New Year's kiss," He teased her, shaking his head before laughing. "You know what's gonna happen? Your family is gonna love me. And when you say we broke up, they're gonna kick your pretty ass. I'm just that good," He smirked. "You have yourself a deal. It's going to be a fun Christmas, babe."
It was crazy to think that he was her favourite person. He'd spent most of his life believing he was a worthless waste of space. She made him feel worth something. Kissing her was well worth the wait. It was better than he could have even imagined. He kept kissing her, not stopping until he needed to pull away for air, "Wow," he simply said with a chuckle, keeping her tugged close to him, one hand resting on her hip and the other on her cheek, "Now I'm really glad I came to this party with you," he finally added and laughed, "Bet you never thought I'd say that."
Kissing him was better than she could have ever imagined, and she had imagined it many times before. Hailey had been too afraid all her life to cross the line and risk losing their precious friendship. She'd rather be his friend forever than not have him at all. The blonde couldn't help but chuckle and feel her cheeks turning red as he pulled away for air. "Yeah, I never in my life thought I'd hear you say that about a party," Her hand was resting on his chest, gently rubbing her thumb on it. "Why did we take so long?"
"i don't know, honestly. it's just a feeling i get with you. at first i thought it was just because you're pretty and i have a thing for redheads, but.." richie's cheeks burned pink, an almost shy smile taking over his face - which was far from ordinary for him. it took a lot to bring out the nervous side of him, but something about sarah made it impossible to pretend to always be confident. "well, there's a first time for everything." richie was pretty observant in body language and he could tell that there was something brewing within the beautiful woman. when he caught sight of her gaze moving to his lips and the soft bite to her bottom lip, he simply couldn't resist. without hesitation, the man leaned in and pressed a gentle, soft kiss to her lips.
Her cheeks were burning red, but she was smiling. She could never imagine Richie being so raw and honest with her. For sure the alcohol had an effect on him. Her gaze lowered to his tempting lips before closing as she felt the warmth and softness against hers. Instinctively, her hands moved to his shirt, pulling him closer to her body. Suddenly, the people, the noise of the party, it all disappeared, like the world had stopped for a moment.
"It's white and long." Daisy answered as he asked about the dress, smirking with a shake of her head. "I'll tell you that it had some lace and I might wear something on my head. Will you let it go with that?" The blonde nudged him with her elbow and she walked along the venue with him. As he stated he would be the most handsome man in the room, she could only chuckle and turn her face towards him while raising her brows. "I wouldn't be so sure. Might have some crazy psycho ex running to the altar..." Even the thought of it made her chuckle once more, louder. "Just kidding." Daisy glanced around the venue, letting out a soft sigh before peeking back up at Diego. Cheeky smile formed on her lips at the thought of a really great idea. "Wanna go get high?"
"Well, a shame. I thought I'd see you in a short dress at the wedding, but I guess I'll have to wait for the honeymoon," He joked, laughing. "I'm not getting more information than that, am I? I guess I'll have to take it," She's just doing what any bride would do. Perhaps she believes in bad luck. But what kind of bad thing could happen at an arranged wedding? "Oh, I'm pretty sure I'm more handsome than your exes," Diego chuckled with her, picturing the thought of an ex running to the altar. "Yes, ma'am! We need this. Does the rooftop sound cool to you, soon to be Mrs. Albuquerque?"
