Charles: Yes yes yes yes YES! Charles!

Charles tried to silently cheer in his room after scoring the moment of a life time. While on the other side of the wall Roxanne had other thoughts.

Roxanne: He looked pretty happy. But nothing good will come from us being friends. I can’t get too close to him even though I feel that I want to. But why?

Roxanne pulled out her phone and dialed for Gabriel.

Roxanne: I know I said I’d get to you later this week but I just got an idea.

Charles: I just thought maybe you’d like to go out with me to the festival this weekend.

Roxanne: You want me?

Charles: Yes I want you to come with me... I mean you can say no...

Roxanne: This feeling doesn’t make any sense.

Charles: I know I’m not really all that “cool”. And you have this reputation to uphold but I’d really like for you to come.

Roxanne: He’s kind of cute actually.

Roxanne: Charles...

Charles stopped talking and looked down at his hands.

Roxanne: I’d love to go with you.

Charles: I'm sorry for barging in like this. I just heard you come in so late.

Charles paused and looked at what Roxanne had on. He blushed.

Charles: You were out on a date-did it not go well? Oh! Excuse me I don't mean to pry...

Roxanne: It's fine. It's normal to worry about your roommate. But I was just out drinking with a friend.

Relief swept over Charles face and quickly became concern.

Charles: It's not safe to drink and drive. You could have called me to pick you up.

Roxanne: I don't have your number.

Charles: Well if you were kinder to me you might have. You know your attitude sucks but this is just plain irresponsible.

Roxanne: Charles...

Charles: Ugh! I didn't come in here to do that. I don't want you to look at me like that. I actually want to fix things between us and maybe be friends.

Charles: I know you said we'd never be friends but I just ask that you try and get along with me. It's embarrassing to say but I've been having this strange feeling to be closer to you-you know as friends!! And I just can't let this keep going on between us.

Roxanne entered her room and closed the door behind her. She let out a pitiful sigh and stood in silence, ashamed. She couldn't figure out whether it was her moment of weakness with Gabriel or this odd feeling she was having towards Charles.

Roxanne: Charlie? Really Charlie?? Oh god I'm gonna be sick.

She walked to the mirror to inspect herself. Grasping her head and stomach she looked at herself.

Roxanne: Maybe I had too much to drink.

*knock knock*

Charles: Um... Roxanne it's me (stupid who else would it be) can I speak with you?

Roxanne: (whispering) Oh no....

The fluttering in her stomach stopped as she felt her heart drop to her feet. Hesitant she stood in front of the door.

Roxanne: Maybe he'll go away if I don't answer.

*knock*

Charles: Roxanne please.

The door opened and Charles walked in.

Gabriel: Then come home with me... (moan) Roxanna.

Roxanne: I want to but I can’t.

Gabriel: Why not? Hmm?

Roxanne: I have to go home to Charlie.

Roxanne quickly came to her senses when she realized what she had just said, and corrected herself.

Roxanne: Charles...

Gabriel: Roxanna?

Gabriel looked at her saddened because their moment had come and gone so fast once Charles was mentioned.

Roxanne: I-I have to go.

Roxanne pushed herself away from Gabriel’s embrace and made way to the bike.

Roxanne: I’ll call you with details later this week.

Roxanne decided to stay with Gabriel and have a few more drinks. The least she could do was supply him with her company. He was her best friend after all.

They had lost count of how many drinks they had and quickly put in another order when last call was announced. Roxanne was clearly intoxicated by how fast she finished her last beer. Gabriel insisted on walking her out.

Gabriel: Let me drive you home.

Roxanne: No I’m fine. I can manage.

While approaching Roxanne’s bike, Gabriel slide his hand down her back, wrapped it around her waist, and pulled her in closer.

Gabriel: Please come home with me tonight. I miss you.

Roxanne pushed herself against him and laughed with satisfaction. 

Roxanne: I can tell.

Roxanne: You’re my best friend and we might have... done some things in the past but right now I need you.

Roxanne: Gabe, you’re the only person that knows me. And I want to thank you for always being there. For not throwing me under the bus. Keeping my secrets. I just really don’t like when you mix the two things up.

Gabriel lifts his beer to his lips and has a taste of it. He’s disappointed in Roxanne. He was hoping that she would maybe want to get back together or at least come back to the coven. But he won’t let their circumstance get in the way of Roxanne’s request.

Roxanne: I fucked up Gabe. I’ve gotten worse this past year.

Gabriel: What did you fuck up?

Roxanne: I can’t even make a simple potion. I mean I usually can without fail but this one backfired on me.

Gabriel: Mhmm?

Roxanne: I was making a hateful potion for my new roommate. I did everything right. I even made sure I was the first person he saw when he took it. You know to be extra sure.

Gabriel was trembling inside when she mentions her roommate being a guy. He wants to ask so many questions but can’t let his jealousy win.

Gabriel: Why would you use a hateful potion on your roommate? And how did it backfire?

Roxanne: I dunno make him hate me enough to make him leave. But now he is obsessed with me. He follows me everywhere. I don’t need him snooping in my business and potentially revealing my secret.

Gabriel: Maybe you shouldn’t have listed your place as looking for a roommate.

Roxanne: It was listed as that for awhile. I mean nobody is crazy enough to accept my listings. But this guy isn’t from here. He’s a nerd and too curious for his own good.

Gabriel: So you want me to rough up your live in stalker?

Roxanne: No, I just need your help reversing the spell and setting a proper one.

Gabriel: Okay Roxanna. I just ask that you enjoy the rest of this night with me. I’ll cover the drinks.

Roxanne arrived at the Red Velvet Lounge later that night. And quietly watched on as a gloomy pianist played. She stood behind him until he was finished. Without turning around the pianist closed the keyboard lid and spoke.

Gabriel: It’s been a long time, Roxanna.

Roxanne chuckles and awkwardly shuffles in place trying to blow off her nerves.

Roxanne: Yeah if you call a year a long time..... Plus... I told you stop calling me that.

Gabriel: You wanted to talk?

Roxanne: Yeah.

Gabriel: Drink?

At the bar the two sit in silence. Gabriel analyzes Roxanne. Fixing his mouth to break the silence.

Gabriel: I see you dressed up. This occasion must be special.

Roxanne: I’m at a lounge. What do you expect me to wear? A t-shirt and jeans?

Gabriel: Forgive me.

Gabriel: I had just forgotten how beautiful you are.

Roxanne sips on her whiskey as Gabriel continues to admire her.

Gabriel: Since you left me... since you left the coven, it hasn’t been the same.

Roxanne frustrated lowers her drink and looks away.

Roxanne: You know damn well why I had to leave that coven. For a number of reasons. I’m surprised you're still there-

He cuts her off and blurts out.

Gabriel: I’ll leave! If that is what you’d like, my Roxanna.

Roxanne: I’m not here to talk about us Gabriel.

The following night Roxanne slipped away to her underground hideout. This was where generations of her families witchcraft was held. The last place where she could somewhat be herself and feel connected to her family. But this place couldn’t ease her mind. She was tense, and unsure of what to do. There was only one person that could help. She pulled out her phone and it proceeded to ring.

???: Roxanne...

Roxanne was nervous and kept silent.

???: Hello?

Roxanne: Yes! I’m sorry hi. I was calling because I need to discuss something with you.

???: Okay... shoot.

Roxanne: In person.

???: Okay well you know where I am. Meet me? Tonight?

Roxanne: Yup, I’ll see you in a few. Bye!

Roxanne hung up the phone and climbed up the ladder strategically place within the bushed behind the house.

Dawn had come and Charles could finally enter the house and somewhat change back in peace. Even though he had gone through this plenty of times, the pain was still unbearable. He groaned in pain, trying to keep as quiet as possible.

Charles: I can’t take this.

Charles exhausted from a whole night without rest collapsed to the ground. Making more noise than he anticipated. It woke Roxanne.

She crept out of bed and knocked on Charles door a few times before entering. She wasn’t much of a caring type but to find him out cold on the ground was shocking. She changed his clothes and put him in bed.

Roxanne: Hopefully you won’t remember how you got here.

Roxanne turned around grasping at her chest as she blushed. 

Roxanne: He’s so skinny...

Even though Charles wishes to keep his secret from Roxanne he goes back to her job. He couldn’t fight the urge to see her. To make sure she is safe. He stands across the street until she comes out.

Charles: No, I hope she didn’t see me.

Roxanne rubs her eyes, bewildered. She stares into the dark woods.

Roxanne: I swear... I saw something.

Charles followed Roxanne back home and decided to watch her from outside. Until it was safe to go back inside.

Charles: I’m not like my fathers. I’m not strong enough. Handsome enough.

Charles: I’ll die alone... Probably better that way.

Charles: Let this curse die with me.

Charles: I’d never want her to see me so hideous.

I’m supposed to be focused on my situation but I’m worried about some girl I don’t even know. We already know she’s not a witch. But why am I so enamored with her.

He sits at his desk in silence for sometime. His eye pacing back and forth until their brought to a stop.

Charles: Unless...

Roxanne IS a witch Grandfather! But a damned bad one. I should have seen it sooner. I can’t stand her one day and then the next I want to make her mine!? I’m an idiot. She put a spell on me. A love spell! I’ll confront her now. Demand respect!

Charles stands outside of Roxanne job practicing what he is going to say once he goes in.

Charles: I demand answers! What’s your play here girly! Ah-ha, I’ve got you!

Charles looks around him to make sure no one is looking. And heads to the back of the building.

Charles: God what am I doing.

Charles: I’m an idiot. “Innocent until proven guilty.” I have no evidence.

Charles: Charles, you could just have feelings for her you big oaf. Which makes my skin crawl. But she is technically a female with a functional reproductive system that can provide me with many children.

Charles: And on that note it’s time for me to leave.

Charles runs into the nearest woods where no one can find him.

Dear Great Grandfather,

I woke up that morning slightly depressed. Although I had been through this same day thousands of times. Possibly the new environment or I had high hopes last night. Either way I ran into her this morning after finishing breakfast.

Charles: Oh... Roxanne.

Charles shyly brushes his hand through his hair, surprised to see her. Roxanne RBF.

Charles: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be out here so late. I know this is usually when you get ready and you’d rather not see me.

Roxanne’s expression didn’t change from what I’d said. Maybe I had confused her. I’m confused myself about how foolish I’ve been acting towards her.

Roxanne brushes past Charles and under her breath responds.

Roxanne: You’re right Charles...

Charles goes back to his room to prepare for work.

I don’t understand Grandfather. Right that this is her usual time to get ready or that she really didn’t want to see me?

It hurts...

Charles: I bet she had to work up the nerve to make those waffles for me too. Deep down she’s a nice girl that is just shy. Hiding behind all of this nonsense.

Charles: Probably desperately searching for someone to connect with. That will understand her and treat her with respect. She doesn’t have to punish herself. I understand.

Charles: She was too shy to tell me and decided to ignore me. Don’t you worry, Roxanne. I’ll show you that you don’t have to be mean to get my attention. I already see you.

Charles creepily caresses over his lips as he stares at Roxanne through the window. Until a sharp pain swept over him. He held his head in shame.

Charles: God, what is wrong with me? I’m acting like a damn pervert. Why would I even think such things. I’m sorry grandfather for my moment of weakness.

Charles: I don’t know what came over me... I’d better go.

Charles: Before she sees me and then I really am a creep... I don’t have much time anyway.
