when ya film killin it at the oscars
Right back at you, George.
“That…” Cheedo struggled to find her words. She could be sympathetic to Angharad, and her heart hurt for her they came from different situations. “…That must have been terrible. I’m sorry, Angharad,” Cheedo took her hand and gave it a squeeze. “The sun is very bright, isn’t it?” She said, looking up and out of the glass dome.
A moment passed, words going unsaid. The desire to protect her youngest sister ran deep. To her, Joe must have been a savior, no matter his own reasons. “It was a long time ago. I suppose I must be resigned.” She tilted her head up to look at the sky. “Do you remember any of your family?”
“So you weren’t one of the wretched?” She asked. Cheedo had been. It wasn’t all the long ago really. She had been shoved past so many people and tossed up onto the platform. They had almost tossed her back off when she shouted that she was full life.
“Why did you come out of the hole? Did they make you?”
Angharad shook her head. She barely remembered the wretched, now. It had just been that one long drive past them all, and then up to the Citadel.
“My father left to check the radiation levels. He didn’t come back for a long time, probably days. Turned out he’d been caught in a raiding party, and they got our location out of him. War boys grabbed me up and carried me out. I don’t know what happened to my mother. All I really remember is screaming at the light of the sun. So bright.”

“Angharad…What did you do before you lived here?” Cheedo asked one day while she leaned against her sister. “I mean…if you don’t mind me asking.”
“I was a little girl,” She began, one arm going back around her sister’s shoulders. Capable and her had talked about what little they remembered to death, but Cheedo hadn’t heard her talk about it much.
“In my limited experience, full life comes in three forms; living in a shielded area, living in an uncontaminated area, or living in a whole in the ground. I spent the first five years of my life at the bottom of a shelter my father built. The sun was something I saw at the top of a tall ladder I wasn’t allowed to climb.”

At one point there may have been a time when Joe had Angharad pour a glass of alcohol for him. She totally spat in it.

Seeing that it was only her sister, Cheedo instantly relaxed, wanting to lie back down onto the pillow. But she knew that the moment she did, the nightmares would return, worse than ever. Instead, she tilted her head, raising a brow quizzically at Angharad’s motives. Why on earth was she wandering around at this time? It couldn’t be morning already.
“No. I’m fine.”
Lies.
Still, she turned the question on its head, hugging the linen blanket around her small frame as she fired back to the older girl.
“Why, what’re you doing?”
How long had Cheedo been with them? Long enough that Angharad noticed a hint of disquiet on that sweet face. She took careful steps over to the bed, sat on the edge. One hand ran its way through those black locks.
“Just walking the little shield around a bit. Gets all grumpy when it’s time to sleep. Hopefully it’ll get used to that. Not that it’ll matter too much when it’s born.”
She prattled for a moment, tamping down on her lips before they said something that wouldn’t be good for Cheedo’s ears such as the thing inside her being like Joe because it won’t sleep at night. That it felt entitled to other people’s sleeping hours like Joe.
“What about you, darling? Can’t sleep?”
You’ve been holding up a long time

The Bio-Dome had never been the most inviting place, even now that she’d been a wife to the Immortan for a number of weeks. Even with the other girls at her side, it seemed so cold and desolate, especially when night fell across the Citadel.
On this one particular night, they all slept soundly, except for Cheedo. She tossed and turned in her bed, unable to suppress the thoughts that plagued her mind. Thoughts of Joe and Rictus and the Organic Mechanic. Men who roamed the towers. Men who frightened her.
That was when she heard a sound, like footsteps padding along the floor. Sitting bolt upright, tangled hair falling into her eyes, a faint whisper left her lips.
“Angharad?”
These last few weeks hadn’t been the easiest. The little shield, as she nicknamed the thing inside of her, was often unbearably restless at night. The tossing and turning went on long enough that Angharad finally rose from her bed to walk the hall.
Her bare feet shuffled on the stone, worn from the pacing of dozens of wives over the years. Just slightly, perhaps, but enough so that it was smooth under her feet. Or perhaps it had always been smooth.
On a loop past the rooms each of them slept in, Angharad heard the whisper of her own name on the lips of their youngest sister. She leaned into the doorway. “Shhh. It’s just me. Do you need anything?”
“Mhm.”
Max sat down, leaving a respectful distance between them. No, she didn’t resemble Jess, not physically, but her pregnancy did remind him of his wife so much.
“No, just… that.” He motioned towards her belly. “We had a kid.”
Her eyebrows raised, and she angled her head just enough that he could read her expression more easily. Had a kid, he’d said. Had, with all the bitter that it implied.
“What was their name?” Angharad raised a hand to her stomach and stroked one hand over it. The thought had not occurred to her until now, that she might be able to keep, and name, the little thing inside her. Simply calling it her shield wouldn’t do in the long term.
The Splendid Angharad
But, like, why does Angharad have such a Before-time name, an old-world name? Okay, so they’re probably in New South Wales but Angharad isn’t even very common in Wales itself. Eeryone else with old-fashioned names are old enough to warrant it (Joe, Max). How did she come by such a distinctive moniker? Why do you think George went with it?
personal headcanon- that’s a name Joe gave her, just like Splendid. it’s a mythological/legendary name.
77. What’s your opinion on age differences in relationships? 78. What’s your dirtiest secret?
#79 👀 “I prefer to be close in age to my romantic and sexual partners. No more than fifteen years older than myself, and no more than five years younger than myself.”
#78 “......... I may or may not have a crush on one of my fellow sister-wives.”
It took Max a moment to regain his composure and overcome the urge to dive out the window. He looked side to side, down, at his feet, anywhere but straight at Angharad.
“Jessie,” he said. That was the first time he’d spoke her name out loud in, he didn’t know how long. “My… Jessie.”
It wouldn’t have taken a genius to interpret what was going on here. She did have a few books that mentioned romance and all. Angharad broke her gaze toward him, staring out the window into the night.
“She was yours? Do I... resemble her?” She didn’t want him to say yes. Life was weird enough without crazy man touching her while she was asleep.

❝ Don’t touch me! ❞
Max knew he’d screwed up badly. He froze, hand hovering above Angharad’s belly, but she’d already felt the touch and woke up.
He stuttered an apology, but he knew he didn’t have a rational excuse for what he’d done.
“You looked like… her.”
Angharad shivered- the touch of her skin while she slept wasn’t something she associated with goodness.
Speedily she woke all the way up, but not fast enough. She looked cuttingly, accusingly at the rogue man.
“Don’t go crazy on me now. Who’s her?”
the turns have tabled
“N-no, for that they’d cut out my eyes!” He rasped, flinching back at the touch with renewed panic. “For… for speaking with you, probably remove my tongue! If lucky! Trespassing in here, I’m as good as a corpse, or worse!” Someone had to bring them food and such, there had to be a way to sneak out again without getting caught.
He turned his back to her again, murmuring frantically under his breath. This was why no one dared. This was why everyone was smart enough to leave things alone.
“Well then.” She held back a laugh, if anything he was a passing amusement. “Might as well pass your last hours in bliss, right? Do you get to eat the fruits of your labors very often?”
Angharad stood languidly, walked a few paces away to dip a hand into the fruits bowl. Apples they had aplenty, strawberries (though those were kept inside, attracting ants to easily outdoors). The fruit she drew out, a wicked grin creeping on her face, was a large pomegranate. Fitting.
“Do you know the story of this fruit? Supposedly it had the power to lock women down in the underworld. I think Joe provides these to us just for laughs, honestly. Have a taste. Stay in the world of death.”
