NOTHING TO SEE HERE. JUST SIX RAPTORS CHILLIN’ ON A BRANCH TOGETHER.
Plain inks / process WIPs.
PS – Marco is the osprey on the left if anyone was wondering.
The fact that this is completely incomprehensible to me makes it funnier than if I could understand it
skill issue. i understand it completely
We live in the brief but glorious time where we can understand and laugh at this dayenu
i have such a profound hate for stories that go 'what if just some guy like literally just some guy was thrown into these horrible circumstances with huge stakes' and then take it back and go 'haha he is not just some guy, he's the specialest little boy in the planet, last in a long line of specialest little boys, it was in his blood all along'
Such love for stories that go 'what if some guy was the specialest little boy on the planet and thrown into these horrible circumstances with huge stakes' and then go 'actually you were just some guy all along, they lied about you being special because it was convenient. But you're in the situation now so buck up, Some Guy.'
what about stories that go "what if some poor random kids were thrown into awful circumstances with huge stakes" and then it turns out God put them in those circumstances because it was one of the only ways He could get a slight advantage over The Devil
oh have i gotta book series for you
it's pride month time to hyperfocus on animorphs EVEN HARDER
a comic about nothing in particular. happy pride. if you are trans i love you ❣️❣️❣️
the eva edriss marco is so delightfully fucked up. it all comes back to eva edriss marco and the family is the violence. animorphs says, no, the family is the violence. this family was the place where the disaster struck.
the family is peter preferring an eva invaded by a parasite to an eva with her own fucking mind. the family is edriss choosing to be a mother because she wants to believe herself capable of motherhood and compassion. the family is eva loving her son so much she rejects the idea of ever mothering him again “i believe i was taken so my son could grow brave and strong and someday destroy you.” the family is marco book 30 saying “this is how i save you. this is how i destroy you.” do you understand me.
animorphs lovessss playing with the nuclear family as a site of violence and i am here for it.
look. what i’m saying is that marco is The posterboy for it. if you talk about family in animorphs you have to talk about marco. and to talk about marco’s family you have to talk about eva. and to talk about eva you have to talk about edriss. because edriss is going to live in them and their family forever
what i’m saying is that eva gets like, 5 lines in this series that aren’t her speaking to her captor and she uses two of them to scream “kill it!” in relation to edriss. what i’m saying is that marco and eva face each other in #15 and it is the worst horror both of them can experience because marco is seeing a mother he cannot save and eva is seeing a son she cannot save and marco could relieve her of this pain but he refuses to because. once again. it is her pain or the world. and the world wins.
(because, for marco, the world has to win. the world always wins.)
#yes you see the vision you see it you see it#it is such an ugly tragic fascinating tale#and marco carries his mother's philosophies with him#so so close to his chest#“life is either a tragedy or a comedy”#so he's the comedian of the group. he chooses that. and YET the pain leaks through#his hope leaks through#his hatred leaks through#he will free his mother#through edriss' death or... or through her own#“live free or die”#edriss hurts them and she needs them#and then there's peter. who just... didn't understand.#he loved his wife. and he loved her more when the fighting ceased#because edriss didn’t have time for that#but then she was gone. and he grieved and he moved on#and ARJJSOSJDB#it's so messy#i cannot eloquently describe it

Happy Pride everyone. Animorphs has always been super important to me, and after reconnecting it more this past year, I figured why not celebrate pride with my favorite totally straight and normal bird boy, Tobias. I have the PSD file saved so I can make additional down the line for flags I didn't include in the first batch, but I hope you all enjoy this silliness all the same. I hope everyone can learn to fly free as their truest selves.
Artist credit goes to Chris Grine who did the Animorphs Graphic Novel, and of course credit to K.A. Applegate and Michael Grant for the animorphs.
It's been, like, two decades since I first read Animorphs, and to this day, I don't think I've encountered a single other fictional relationship that scratches the same itch as Jake and Cassie. Jake is an all time favourite character, and I've noticed a lot of characters I gravitate towards share some similarities with him. But Jake/Cassie as a specific dynamic...the way after Esplin's trial, she talks to him about how they were justified, and he claims to have not been thinking about that when he drained the Pool but about wanting the Yeerks to suffer, when we were in his head when he made that call, and those negative thoughts he feels so guilty about were his way of coping with the decision...the way this is the conversation that made Cassie knew she had to move on...the way she's the first of the two characters in 54 to comment on his smile looking like Rachel's...I feel like even now, rereading for the millionth, I get something new out of it, and never read anything else quite like it.
I fully agree. They come together, they shape each other, and they ultimately fall apart over the ethical questions raised by the war. Jake trusts Cassie more than he trusts himself to know what the right thing is. Cassie trusts Jake more than she trusts herself to know how to do that right thing when the time comes.
And then Cassie does something unforgivable to Jake, because she sees no other way to win the war. And then Jake does something unforgivable to 17,000 noncombatants, because he sees no other way to win the war. And they know each other too well, ever to be able to live with each other again.
“why do i like whump and body horror?” i ask, ignoring the suspiciously k. a. applegate-shaped figure looming over my childhood

Excerpt from Childhood is the Kingdom Where Nobody Dies by Edna St. Vincent Millay.
animorphs does not get enough credit for its innovation in the field of platonic willing-manipulation dynamics… making peace with being used, using your friends right back, doing it because it’s the only way, doing it because you’re desperate, doing it because you love them, accepting it when and because you trust them, accepting it when and because you don’t trust yourself… strengthening your connection through it like a really disturbing friendship bracelet… loving each other fiercely in and between these moments, caring so, so much for each other, seeking each other’s company to laugh and play and rest... ignoring the weight of it when you can, feeling it full force when you can’t, wearing you down, wearing you down all the time, just another pane of plexiglass separating you from notions of normal, living in that violent dissonance, your whole adolescence in it.
Animorphs is the series for anyone who wishes cain and abel had a will-they won’t-they thing going on for the chronological duration of the bible
