Men cook pongal, a sweet rice dish that is traditionally made with ghee, coconut, milk, jaggery, rice, mung beans, cashews, raisins, cardamom, and anise, inside of a clay pot over a fire. In Tamil, the word 'pongal' means "boiling over" as well as "celebration". It is also the name of the rice dish cooked during the harvest festival which is symbolic for the Sun God. If you are a fan of rice pudding, I highly recommend looking up a recipe of this dish and try making it at home.
