Cat of the Day

“Layla is a sweet, affectionate, dainty elderly lady who is happy to snooze on a lap but also still has a sense of adventure. She was found wandering lost in Hove in January; since then she's made herself very much at home with her foster-mum. She's adapted well to a new environment and is pleased to meet new people, young and old. She loves catnip, feathers on string, Dreamies, a good chin rub, and a comfy seat in the sunshine. She was found to have rather a lot of broken teeth, so in April had to have most of them removed. She's a little less keen to play at the moment but being gummy doesn't stop her enjoying meal times or treats! Having only a few teeth hasn't kerbed her interest in chatting to the birds outside the window, either: she's very interested in getting outdoors to explore. Being quite elderly she can be a little tottery on her pins so she won't need an enormous garden but she would love a sunny balcony or patio. Layla is very sweet-natured and would make a wonderful forever friend.”

Dog of the Day

“8 month old Alex is an intelligent little terrier, who loves to have a good sniff. He loves his food which could help with his training. Alex needs to be the only dog and any children in the home need to be over 11 years. Time left alone would need to be built up slowly. He can be nervous of new people and would need patient owners who are willing to do training with him and some gentle socialising.”

“Bob is a 4 year old Rhodesian ridgeback cross, he has found himself in RSPCA care after his previous owners ill health meant that they could no longer cope with the demands of owning a dog. Sadly kennel life does not agree with Bob and he is finding the transition from a home to kennels very difficult to deal with. This often means that the behaviour he exhibits in his kennel is off putting to potential adopters, however out of his kennel Bob is a very affectionate, loving and playful young dog.

Bob already knows some basic commands and is enthusiastic about working for treats or his toys which is a nice way to build a bond. Due to Bob’s large size and very playful behaviour he is looking for a new home with children over the age of 15, he is not suitable to live with cats but could potentially live with another dog. Bob is looking for a dog owner that has had experience with large breed dogs in the past.”

Cat of the Day

“Cher came into RSPCA care after her previous owners living arrangements changed meaning they could no longer provide her with a suitable home. On arrival Cher was very timid and found life in the cattery stressful but after a few days began to feel more at home and her true character began to shine through. She has since proven that she is an extremely affectionate cat but has a very calm nature so will be best suited to a quieter home, as Cher has always been a house cat she will need to be kept as a house cat by potential adopters. She is ideally looking for a family with children of at least 7 years and could potentially live with other cats and dogs.”

“Rufus came to us after living for quite some time as a stray. He was very nervous and would try and hide, but after plenty of nurturing, he is now a very friendly cat that loves the company of humans. He loves to be brushed and stroked and will even gently take treats when hand fed. He hasn’t got to “lap cat” stage, but we are sure he will soon become a lap cat once he has settled into his new home. He would suit a family with children of school age and would love to have free roam of a garden.”

Dog of the Day

“Bobsie is a staffy X and approximately 6 years of age. He was abandoned by his owner in the garden of the house they moved away from.  He was left with no water, food or shelter.  We were made aware of his plight by a team of people on Facebook who had been visiting him and giving him much needed water and food – particularly in the stifling heat. He’s a lovely friendly boy.  Good with kids, cats and dogs.”

“A true ‘cat persons’ cat. She can be grumpy at times but we don’t blame her as she came to us when she was about to be put to sleep. A typical cat, she likes who she likes and doesn’t have much time for others. If she likes you then you will have made a life-long friend.Taken to vets to be P.T.S. as her owner had to go into a home. Good condition on admittance though a little on the plump side.A quiet home with no other cats.”

“Montana is a cheeky, lively lady with bundles of personality!  She is looking for a new home as her owners had no time for her.  She is such a sweetheart with so much love on offer for her new home, but sadly at the rescue, being a young terrier she is quite stressed.  We would love her to find a home quickly and get her settled.  Montana did live with children in her previous home, but due to kennel stress, we think a calm, quiet home with no young children would suit her best.  Although Montana is friendly with dogs on walks (and loves to play!) we feel she would be best as the only pet in the house.  She does not like cats, small animals or caged birds.  As Montana is young and active, she will need an active owner with someone home for most of the day.  She is such a cracking little dog and will make a fun, loving and entertaining friend.”

“Pretty tabby and white Greta was a timid stray when the charity first rescued her in 2015 and had clearly had a traumatic past, surviving on city centre streets :(.  She has been homed once but has come back due to a change in her owner’s circumstances. Due to this unfortunate upheaval, at the moment Greta is very timid of new people and is going to need some time to settle down again. Greta has been back with us at the quieter South Cave cattery and is very playful and curious with people she knows, but does not like being stroked yet. She loves the feather and string toys, and her mice, and such playful interaction is likely to be the fastest route to her trusting a new owner. As we do not want to cause her any more upheaval by moving her to the homing centre, anyone interested in giving this rescue puss a very special home should call the coordinator on 07967 627492 (after 6pm) to discuss her needs; viewing is by appointment only at South Cave.

Greta is looking for a patient new owner in a quiet, settled home with no young children. She is a beautiful girl who deserves someone to love her as she is, and who will let her confidence develop with time and patient acceptance.”
