really wish 007 First Light had a photomode, but we make do anyway
in other news I filmed a Mando-themed promo video for a local arcade today, so this is now my new work uniform
In case you see this elsewhere: a GameRant article from a few days ago mentioned "more Cal stories coming" while talking about popular theme park attractions at Disneyland.
Nice to see official sources acknowledge Cal and the Jedi games, but I'm always wary of the speculative news cycle that follows. We'll see what happens 🤞
very relatable, I also say "Wow!!" when I see Cal
Cal you liar
found more Cal Kestis in the mailbox 💫
Bit of a long shot, but were you the one who made the edit of PHM to The Hand by Amanda Dinda? I remember seeing it once but I haven't been able to find it again.
hmm I think I've seen a video using that song but don't remember where. If I do I'll post a link! Hope you can find it!
for reference, these are my Project Hail Mary edits:
Coward / the book moment we don't see someone to be brave for 🌠 every possible advantage. The Stars Stay the Same (not) an astronaut. Don't Look Back
now that the film is out on digital, I'd love to make one longform story video if I can figure out exactly what I want to say (there's so much I could say about PHM ugh) so stay tuned 🪐
Cal Kestis | Jedi Survivor
Hi! I just wanted to say how much I adore your videos. You have such an incredible talent for film editing and film making, I always get so excited every time I see you've uploaded another video and I end up watching them a billion times usually. You've actually inspired me to try editing some videos of my own again, which I haven't done seriously in years and years; I've been having an absolute blast ever since. Thanks for sharing your work!
Congrats on getting back into editing!! It's such a challenging but satisfying creative process, and always worth the struggle. Glad these Jedi videos could be an inspiration :)
I started making AMVs over a decade ago just for fun, and now work as a commercial editor and videographer. It's mostly dry corporate projects buutttttt even the boring stuff will teach you skills that you can use elsewhere. Storytelling is universal! Though obviously Star Wars stories are way more fun.
Thanks so much for watching 💛 Excited to see what you make!
hi, i was wondering if you had any outfit combos for the duelist jacket?
LOVE the Duelist jacket. It feels closer to canon than other outfits (vest-like form, blue and orange-ish colorway, etc) and I've been using it as a shorthand for Jedi 3 Cal until we see his actual design.
Because of the half-sleeve, changing shirts only impacts Cal's left hand/glove. Wanderer and Outrider look nice and have similar colors, but most other gloves feel too bulky next to the wrist wrap. For pants, I like Wanderer, Outrider, and Jedi - Hermit too if you have the pre-order cosmetic. Hair is always up to preference but I'll usually pick the longer/scruffier options.
Also I can't believe we'll someday have another canon design for the Mantis crew. They're all gonna look so cool. AHHHH.
They added BD-1 at Disneyland! Something something "approved trash" 🤣
That's so fun!!!! 🥰 He definitely scans every scrap to make sure it's approved (Cal taught him well)
happy Mando day 🎉
happy saturday, it's a party at Pyloon's 🪩
Hi Jen! So, I know that you don’t know me, but I just wanted to say, I am extremely impressed with the gift you have been given! Seriously, your edits, your videos, everything you have put out is just masterpiece after masterpiece! I don’t get impressed easily, but I’m absolutely FLOORED with every post from you. And I love that you use that gift in the Star Wars universe, and my favorite character, Cal Kestis! One of my favorite works from you was the Traitor Inquisitorious series. I wanted to ask you, do you have another awesome Cal Kestis series in mind that you will be working on in the future?
Hi radynt! This is incredibly kind, thank you :') I'm now feeling shrimp emotions, please gaze upon Merrin's beautiful face while I recover.
The Jedi games are great and Cal Kestis is great, so celebrating with other fans is always such a joy. I've learned a ton while creating these videos, especially the TI series.
As of now my next project is The Making of Traitor Inquisitorius, which will hopefully condense all that learning into something palatable (jury's still out) and help other people understand these virtual filmmaking tools. After that, we'll see!
fun fact: normally stim canisters are thrown into the air for Cal to grab, but if his hands are full, BD will administer the stim himself :)
Jumping off of @breakfastteatime's tags:
Love this. And to be clear, everyone is allowed to have their own ideas of how Cal's trilogy ends (Schrodinger's Jedi and all that) buuutttttt
Cal begins his story in hiding on Bracca. He tells BD that he was "alone with no purpose." Throughout the games, he gains and loses and regains his friends in an ever-evolving quest to rebuild the Order, to safeguard the vulnerable, to defeat the Empire, and to find a safe haven.
So if he returns to hiding (choosing to destroy the abyss and keep Tanalorr from the Empire) but this time with purpose and not alone, sacrificing the role of Fighter for the role of Protector, shepherding the Archive remains and Hidden Path refugees into the unknown - it'd be a beautiful way to complete Cal's character arc.
We know he doesn't save the day, he won't be the final hero. But I do think the Force chose Cal for a different role. Like Cassian, he continues on despite terrible circumstances, after so many of his loved ones have fallen. He carries their legacy and learns from their mistakes. Cal has the opportunity to both honor the past and step into the future, separate from the larger Star Wars narrative (and therefore freed from the increasingly-narrow timelines and plot points of established canon)
If we do connect the Jedi games to the larger galaxy, those salvaged books from the Archive could eventually end up with Luke. That'd be poetic and would tie in with Cere's original desire to rebuild the Jedi. Maybe someone smuggles them out before Tanalorr is cut off (I vote Kata, but that's an idea for a separate post) and eventually a new path back to the known galaxy can be discovered. But there's a lot of ancient history and old Force traditions to study via psychometry in the meantime.
Cal becomes a teacher, leader, archeologist (Tapal, Cere, Cordova) and stories of his adventures inspire the next generation, who learn about him from the people and places he helped along the way.
Right now I don't see another Star Wars project where the Mantis crew fits without being sidelined into someone else's character development. I love Cal Kestis because of the Jedi games. His impact could still ripple out into the larger narrative, but I'd rather his story end definitively with a clear "alive and goodbye" than be dragged out or watered down into something else.
