Anime Review: Vanitas no Karte
Release Season: Summer 2021 Release Date: July 3 2021 Last Episode: September 18 2021 Episode Count: 12 Season 2? Yes There is one already, coming January 15 2022 (Winter 2022) Before we continue : Disclaimer this is my personal opinion on the anime.
Honestly I didn't enjoy the anime when the 1st episode came out. I just found it okay so I decided to put it on hold and wait. What really pushed me to watch the anime finally was the fact that it got a nendoroid release early! It's not uncommon for popular animes to get nendoroid early but I didn't expect it to be this popular at all.
Did I enjoy it? Yes I did. Are there still some missing pieces? Yes there are still so many things I want to know from the anime that weren't explained in the 12 episodes. Even if I didn't enjoy it in the beginning I did end up enjoying it as a whole.
If you read the summary from MAL the things that caught my attention was 'curses', 'vampires' and that the setting was old English. I was really curios on how they would incorporate all 3 of them into 1 anime and they were able to do it. I wasn't disappointed in how they blended all three together.
Would I recommend this anime to my friends? Yes I would but maybe when season 2 is already out. I think one reason I stuck with this anime to the very end was what happened to one of the characters in the end that really left a cliff hanger to me as a viewer.
(From epicstream.com) Vanitas, the character one the left, and Noe the character on the right are the two main protagonist of the story as well as Noe's cat, Murr. One important thing to point out is that Vanitas is a human and Noe is a vampire that wants what Vanitas has (Not saying what it will spoil the anime). You'll get to know Noe a lot in the anime, a lot of flashbacks relating to him happen through out the show. For Vanitas there isn't that much information about him in the anime but you kind of get an idea about him. They do kind of complement each other but they kind of give me a Dazai and Chuya (Bungo Stray Dogs) vibe at times especially when they argue.
(From: vantasnocarte.fandom.com) Jeanne is one of the many supporting characters I choose because she is the love interest of Vanitas and she kinda doesn't want to admit it. She is also very protective of her master and would do anything for him.

Luca another supporting character who is mostly seen with Jeanne. He is the master the Jeanne answers to and has a brother but they don't really talk about him. He really cares for Jeanne and the brother which is evident in the anime the more you watch. I also feel bad for him (Not saying anything else because it will spoil the anime.)

Dominique is another supporting character who has an interest in Noe. I think Noe also likes but I'm not sure if it's in a romantic way or in a sister way. She does hate Vanitas in the beginning but slowly warms up to the idea that he is always with Noe.

Ruthven he is a supporting character but near the end of the anime I would say he sort of became an antagonist to the story. He is the uncle of Luca and is a powerful vampire. There are still things about him that are a mystery which makes him sort of an intriguing character but I'm still not sure where he really stands in the whole series.

The curse? The shapeless one? I'm not really sure what they call this but this is the cause of the curse. This is the main antagonist in the anime. For some reason he doesn't appear that much in this form in the anime and there isn't that much information about him in the anime.
I hope that season 2 will give us a more in-depth look into some of the supporting characters and Vanitas. I know there is also a manga that this anime was based from and I decided no to start reading it even if I really want to know what is happening because I started it as an anime and would like to stick with it till season 2 is finished.
