watched miss kobayashi's dragon maid: a lonely dragon wants to be loved (小林さんちのメイドラゴン さみしがりやの竜)
by far, my favorite arc in the manga, adapted beautifully. when it comes to kyoani, you know they'll deliver (most of the time) and deliver they did. it's not only as well produced and animated as liz and the blue bird, but it also touches me emotionally in the same way (which means i cried like crazy)
from the trailers, some scenes looked like they strayed too much from the artstyle they used for the tv series, so i thought i would feel a bit weirded out. that was not true at all, the ever-so-slightly less moe faces worked very well for the more impactful moments and there was definitely no reason to worry about the lack of moe in the movie about the biggest moe blob dragon
i'm sure every parent in 2026 can relate. also kobayashi looks hot with her hair down
something i keep thinking about this arc is: who would have thought a slice of life about dragon anime girls with various levels of booba could be more interesting than 99.5% of the shonen anime out there and comment so tenderly on topics like found family, parental abandonment/neglect, loneliness (from the point of view of what's effectively a kid), revenge and the misery it brings to oneself, etc.? i sure didn't when i first watched the first season, but here we are and i'm glad we're here
this movie might not hit the right notes if you watch dragon maid only for the slice of life moments or the Cool Fighting - it's got those, but it's definitely not about that - but it sure hit all the right notes for me, personally, and it's for sure a movie i'll constantly come back and watch again

if i had to nag at one thing, it would be that the introduction/setup maybe doesn't take long enough. maybe if we had just a liiiiiittle more time until kimun kamui appeared, everything would have hit just right. it would have really benefitted from showing more of what kanna was about to leave behind, just to give the public +10 dmg
as a side note, i'm happy ilulu's new voice (shiori sugiura) fits her very well; it's decidedly a softer, rounder voice, but it registers as ilulu with no effort
anyway, good movie. sasuga kyoani, sasuga coolkyoushinja, sasuga kobayashi-san. here's my favorite joke of the movie:
