Me after watching Good Omens 3
The last panel contains more emotion than anything you could find in a museum
I reblog this Everytime I see it because it just fills me with so many emotions
I like in Ember Island Players when Aang wants to sit next to Katara but gets blocked by Zuko, and then Aang tries to be like "hey....I wanted to sit there....." And Zuko goes "Just sit next to me, what's the big deal?" cause so much is going on there, subtextually speaking.
For one, Zuko and Katara JUST made up and started being friends, best friends even, and Zuko could be trying to be nonchalant about wanting to sit next to her (cute). For two, it seems like Zuko could be oblivious to Aang's crush on Katara because he's still new to the group and legitimately doesn't know what the big deal is.
And on a deeper level, he doesn't just not see that Aang has a one-sided crush, he doesn't see any kind of chemistry or tension between them because it literally doesn't exist. He's oblivious to it because it is not there, textually. He has grown closer to Katara and understands the real her on a deeper level than any other character in the gaang and he has no inclination that she's interested in Aang because she never shows any.
Hell you could even interpret this as Zuko being a girl's boy and intentionally shielding his friend from the obsessed pushy kid she's trying to avoid the advances of, supported by the fact that later on she tries rejecting his pushy entitled bullshit and he assaults her.
Like I can envision the conversation where Katara is like "Ugh I really hope Aang doesn't try anything weird at the play later, like trying to yawn and put his arm around me or something," and Zuko, without being asked, choosing to make himself the bad guy by intentionally being a cockblock so that Katara doesn't have to be in an uncomfortable situation.
Imagine being so insecure over a non canon ship that you have to complete destroyed even their friendship just so they can make fun of those who still ships them. Imagine being so childish that you removed Zuko's scar but not Aang as though to make a point. Imagine making your canon ship kissed and it seem so forced like they're trying to prove something. Imagine hating your female protagonist that you reduce her character to just being the girlfriend who has to calm her boyfriend down. That's not a healthy relationship and our Katara deserves better than that.
Wait a second, let me get this straight……..
It’s canon that Zuko turned out to be a great and involved father.
It’s canon that Zuko gave special attention and devotion to the Southern Watertribe and rebuilding it over the other nations
Katara who complained about doing everything around camp would never have to do another chore again married to Zuko since they’d be royalty.
Katara who lost her mum and played surrogate mum to multiple characters would get a mother-figure in Ursa (better written Ursa of course)
Zuko and the Fire Nation aren’t pacifist or vegetarian so aspects of her culture like food and animal skins wouldn’t be a problem.
Katara would become a co-world leader with more than enough power to institute change and progress in the Southern Watertribe, the Fire Nation and in the world at large.
And this isn’t even all, but I think you get the point. Hmm, they just didn’t care about her at all, did they?
Like honestly, Aang deserved better too.
Kataang was not a good match unless you want that caretaker/mothering role perpetuated. His growth was stunted because he was paired with an enabler.
Why do I call her en enabler? Well she chose him for a number of reasons. She had stars in her eyes from the beginning with him being the Avatar and was led towards him by his continuous and non consensual, juvenile advances, the predictions of a false oracle, and the social pressure of her position in his life. His anger at the EIP’s portrayal of their relationship showed how he could potentially act if she didn’t react well to him, and throughout the series (and comics 🤮) she acts as the pacifist, the only person who can break through to Aang when he’s freaking out. Some Avatar. He relies too much on her to take care of him (physically and emotionally), and she takes that burden readily. If he was given any chance to deal with that crap on his own, maybe we would have seen some growth in his character.
Katara deserved someone she didn’t have to take care of, and Aang deserved someone who could give him a kick in the right direction and facilitate his growth into the Avatar he could have been.
How was even possible that this was the last "romantic" interaction between A/ang and Katara: a one sided love confession and a non consensual kiss (that A/ang didn't even apologize btw)
But these were some of the last scenes of Zuko and Katara together
And they barely talked properly after that. Zuko just sacrificed himself for Katara and they didn't talk about it?? He almost died for her and yet they had no conversation
And right after that they brought back zuko's girlfriend that he didn't even think about after the boiling rock ep, they kiss and end up together??? At the same time, Katara suddenly has feelings for A/ang and they kiss and live happily??? It doesn't make sense at all
If A/ang wasn't the main character, he would have NEVER gotten the girl and I'll die on that hill
AND kat/aang was male gaze, im sure. They were older sister-younger brother coded, and that's the reason they ended up together, cause the hero always get the girl he likes from the beginning and she ends up being just his wife and mother of his kids even tho she was a great warrior, bender and a hero.
Oh Katara, you deserved better
No matter how many jabs Br*ke throws at Zutara, it will never dissuade us.
Zuko and Katara don't say a word to each other - They’re having an emotional affair
Zuko's lighting scar from saving Katara is gone - Katara healed it through multiple sessions and possibly bloodbending
A spirit calls them a couple - They’re soulmates
Katara and Zuko both turn old in the spirit realm - Their souls are on the same maturity level
Katara: im cold :(
Zuko: here, take my jacket! Is that better?
[Later]
Katara: ah man, im cold again
Aang: WELL DAMN KATARA, I CANT CONTROL THE WEATHER
[During The Ember Island Players]
Katara: [to Toph] Talk about a pretty silly play, am I right, Toph? Toph? *whispers* Toph, are you crying?
Toph: [listening to Actor Katara and Actor Zuko] Just kiss him, you idiot.
Another take i have against kaatang is that their "romantic moments " were also forced and still lacked the growth and buildup of a good romance.
The fortune teller was one of my least favorite because at the end she randomally thinks if aang because he's a powerful bender??? In a world of powerful benders and he's rhe avatar like no. Tnat wasn't romantic it was forced. And two Aang was such a tool in that episode. I know he was 12 but the way he acted was so off putting and rude. He treated meng so ugly and that says something about a middle school aged boy and who he might become. He only sees value in a girl he is attracted to.
Next was the cave of two lovers and that episode was just weird. It wasn't romantic it was opportunistic and childish.
After that they don't really have romantic moments until the end of the show where she just suddenly chooses him after multiple times of pushing him away.
And then the movie is all her when it comes to romance.
They are not a true romantic ship. And I hate it.
And another thing.
I don't think aang saw beauty in katara but instead he saw the beauty of katara. In a sense to say he saw a pretty girl and not what was inside the pretty girl. And whenever pretty girl showed her darker side he fought it .
Aang was a very selfish character. From the get go he put his feelings first and that just a toxic trait he had. All characters have some toxicity in them and aang was selfish. His feelings always mattered more. What he thought and what he felt was always put above the fate of the world. Leaving the guru to save katara was not romantic , it was a dangerous risk that almost ended his lifr.
"oh, hi, zuko"
"hi, katara."
(you can't convince me nothing happened between these two)

I genuinely don't understand the intense hate and anger towards zutara. It is literally the tamest ship to ever exist. It's straight, it's enemies to lovers, and fulfills a million other tropes. Not to mention that at one point they were literally set up to be canon. Elizabeth Welch, the writer behind some of Kataras most powerful scenes and Aaron, the head writer, both shipped zutara.
Like it was an actual ship designed to be canon... until it was not. There's so much substance to it that you can't even deny. It did not come out of nowhere. Even if you don't ship it, where is all this hate coming from and why??
I'm new to the fandom (not to the show) — so I just want to understand. I don't think I've ever seen this much resistance over a straight ship. It's everywhere, on TikTok, Twitter, you literally can't escape it.
I'm not even 'anti-kataang' tbh. They're both cute but zutara (imo!) just stands out and works better. It's the mature ship in my eyes
The most egregious proof of Bryke's obsession with hating Zutara is completely erasing Zuko's scar he got protecting Katara from Azula's lightning in the finale.
I am so sure that they wanted to give the fandom some fanservice by keeping Zuko shirtless half the movie (which, fan served btw lmao) but they couldn't STAND the idea of the biggest Zutara moment reminder being visible the whole time so they just illogically removed it.
Aang keeps his Azula momento, but Zuko loses his…… hmm……
LIKE OKAY… Aang was healed with spirit water too, and Zuko wasn't, just making this more illogical
