I haven’t been drawing much lately, mostly cause I’m tired, but I still try. Here is one that was inspired from Shea and Nie’s RP. For those not in the know, enjoy two cute boys riding a hoss.
Side RP between Anisa and Mordecai, takes place after they return with the Sword.
[10:47:33 AM] David: As he'd stated, once the remaining group members made their way back and they stored what little remains of their fallen friends they had, Mordy proceeded to pay a visit to his cousin Johnny and get a case of the strongest whiskey he had. The booze was to serve two purposes. The first to numb the memories and feelings of Donovan dying right in his brain, and secondly to keep him from turning the entire Church into one enormous bomb in retaliation for the Grand Cleric being such a shithead.
[11:14:48 AM | Edited 11:16:14 AM] Numbers: Anisa, understandably, retreated back to her miserable little lair after the church incident. Toying with her stolen tiara and gems from the tower, she still can't get anything of it off her mind. People claiming to do good for their God, only to shun them after all they sacrificed. She should have known better, they're no less crooked than the guilds in town. But what rattled her cage was the consequence of it all, that they might not get some of their friends back. Namely Reuben and Sigmarr. It caught up with her--most of them were dead, including the one she feared losing most.
That day they all stood in sparse numbers before the king was one she'd soon like to forget. At least she didn't have to give up all her possessions, so back into the locker they went.
What actually gets her out of her room is her keen elf ears, which easily pick up the sound of someone coming inside, and--more importantly--that familiar clinking of bottles. Sliding out the door and down the hall, she can make out a promising sight: past the main room into the kitchen laid several bottles and their surviving gnome prying them open.
Soon Mordy's met with their rogue plopped down on one of the chairs. She slumps down, head in her arms on the table in a sluggish, exasperated manner. Not even looking his way, she just makes a lazy finger snap his way. One bottle, please.
[11:18:29 AM] David: He grunted and slid a bottle across the table. "Good t' see you're still around. I was startin' ta think you bailed, an' I wouldn't blame you one bit. I'm havin' a few second thoughts about savin' a place that can't even be bothered ta help the people who died for 'em"
[11:19:17 AM] David: Cousin Johnny's best was some powerful stuff, and his accent was stronger than usual as the booze worked it's magic
[11:39:22 AM] Numbers: Anisa catches the bottle with perfect speed. Now with a weapon on hand, she forces herself back up. She takes a swig to sample. The taste is bitter and aciditc, yet strangely satifying. A strong, powerful kind of sour. Glasses are not welcomed in times like these
"Where would I go?" She grumbles. "Back to Undaria? Fat chance. This town's a festering shithole, but it's all I got." It was... impossible right now to feign any sort of devotion to Cores Pass. But unfortunately, it didn't help her troubled heart any hating them. She didn't used to be so weak, she was sure of it.
"If anything, I need to stay, Even if the church turned us away, what are we going to do? Just give up on them? I'm not leaving him!" She didn't need to explain herself further, the gnome knew enough. So she just sighs, throat still tight from crying hours ago.
[11:49:03 AM] David: "you gotta point there" he finished the bottle and reached for another one. at this rate it was going to become an experiment to see just how much alcohol he could survive. "We haven't used up all our options. S' gotta be somethin' we can do ta bring em back. I still owe Donny an ass kicking for dying like that, an' you ain't gotten ta talk to Siggy." third bottle open, and another swig. "maybe eggy can do somethin."
not that he had any idea what the mage could do when there wasn't a body, but necromancy wasn't his thing. he sighed and stared into the bottle. "I was telepathically linked ta donnie ya know. I saw everyone die through his eyes, an' I felt it when he died. Surprise, a really sharp pain, an then nothin'." Another drink. "At least... At least it was properly witnessed, ya know? It ain't right, but at least there was someone ta remember what happened"
Cold comfort at best.
[12:21:21 PM] Numbers: "I was going to tell him," she confesses. The guilt in her voice sounds like she's confessing a war crime than her love. Mordy reached for the low hanging fruit and by God he went there. Well, she was already expecting it long before even reaching the damn table. "You weren't there, but when I used your bomb I lost my hearing. He was making sure I was okay... and he didn't think I'd hear it, so he told me he loves me. I read his lips, and I just found it funny and shocking. I was gonna wait for a good time to tell him. You know, catch him by surprise. But... You know, apparently you saw what happened... And now now I don't know if I'll ever get the chance. Jokes on me, I guess."
Taking another (somewhat cautious) swig of whiskey, she savors the shivers it sends down her spine and the itch to her brain. It's a damn shame Mordy had to not see but feel the whole thing. No wonder the gnome looks so distressed. "What do you think Eoghan could do? I've only seen his magic work on corpses. There's a reason we only got Donovan's body downstairs."
[12:32:48 PM] David: "hells if i know" he shrugged. "maybe he can stuff their souls in substitue bodies or somethin'. Soul magic was never really my specialty. I'm more o' a this world kinda guy, ya know?" He took another swig and let it burn. He was really going to have to send Johnny a nice note. Maybe a fruit basket. "Damn shame. At least you finally got ta hear it from him though. Feckin' Priests.." he trailed off into something in gnomish. Whatever it was he said, it sounded filthy. Another sip, and he started fooling with the bottle cap. "S'funny. I've seen a lotta shit on the road. People do all kinda things when they think they can get away with it, but until I joined the dragons, I didn't realize that applied ta important people in the city too". He took another swig.
The worst part was that there wasn't much they could do about it. It wasn't like they had the power to force the head of the most powerful religion in the entire city to do what they wanted.
[12:51:37 PM] Numbers: Anisa grimaces hard into her open bottle and chugs. Knowing Sigmarr felt the same should have been comforting, at least in a bittersweet sense. Setting the whiskey down hard on the table, she looks to Mordy with steely eyes. "Imagine burning away into ash after confessing something like that to deaf ears. I don't even know where his ghost is now, I just remember Az saying he wouldn't move."
She's sitting stiff for a while, eyes hardly flickering away. There's a small, quiet fear she's been letting stir up inside her.
"What if... he doesn't want to be revived?"
[1:05:50 PM] David: Mordy snorted into his drink. "You kiddin' me? After he finally worked up the courage ta say it? If he's got even half a chance, he'll come back to you , mark my words" He began twirling the bottlecap between his fingers. The fact he could still do it was proof he was nowhere near drunk enough. "Him not movin' was proof o' that. You heard th' Raven. That Star is a kinda Elf heaven, an' it also takes dwarves. There's enough o' both of those in him he coulda gone along for the ride an' settled down in some kinda paradise. Instead he stayed. Ain't too many things I can think of that'd make a man do somethin' like that" he pointed a slightly shaky finger. It was almost pointed directly at her. "Y'know what yer problem is? Confidence. Y'got no faith in yer own worth, an' that's a damn shame, because yer worth a lot"
[1:29:26 PM] Numbers: Anisa leans back with her bottle, gawking at the gnome feeling a little insulted now. But he was kind of right. "I usually do have confidence," she corrects him defensively. "I know my setbacks, but I know what I'm good for and proud of that. Hell, I'm of 'this world' myself. It's just... I don't know what to do with him and it's not because I was ever nervous around him. He's just... He was fragile."
She wasn't even halfway through her bottle and the contents were starting to burn up in the back of her throat. Like poison.
"It felt like walking on eggshells whenever I tried to get close him, and like every word out of my mouth was the wrong one cuz he'd flinch and push me away. I'd laugh it off, but... it fucking hurt, man. Hard not for it to cut deep in your pride."
[2:00:07 PM] David: sigmarr would probably have gone from sweating to drooling if she's just gone ahead and flashed him, but probably wasn't the time to say that. "Ya got me there. I admit I'm kinda comin' inta all of this late, so I don't zactly see th' same things the rest of you do". he shrugged and finished the bottle. He frowned. "Wasn't this thing just full?" He reached for another one and popped the cap.
"Anyway, we oughta do somethin'. I dunno what, but we need ta get outta here. Bring the booze, because like hell am I doin' the bonding thing sober, but we oughta go do somethin', because I have decided. We are gonna get them back if I haveta build a machine ta rip them from th' hands o' the gods themselves, an' we oughta have a decent story ta tell 'em when we see 'em again"
[2:09:37 PM | Edited 2:09:56 PM] Numbers: Unlucky for Mordy, Anisa hasn't forgotten he's like one out of like 9+ men in the house that aren't gay and is always skeptic of his motives
Anisa looks perplexed. Maybe it was the alchol getting to him. It was already getting to her and she's just barely finishing her first bottle. Never trust anything from the gnomes in plural numbers. Unless it's bread. She digs his enthusasm though, at least one of them acted alive.
"You know, I'm surprised we don't work together even sober. You got the gadgets and I got some tricks up my own sleeves. Those explosives you made? A-fucking-mazing. Wish we coulda used 'em on those holy bastards." Seeing Greyson punch Elliot was good enough. Plus she would have felt remorse probably, having a soul and conscious and all that bad shit. It was just a joke.
[2:16:43 PM] David: "that.." he gestured with the bottle "that would have been a good idea. just stuff it under th' priest's seat cushion or somethin'. See how he likes visitin' the other side ahead o' schedule" he grinned. "Seriosuly though, yer right. We gotta come up with some way ta work together more often. yer combat style seems like it'd work well with mine an' all that." he frowned thoughtfully "then again, you workin' too much with another guy might give siggy th' wrong idea. be a shame to discourage him after he finally nutted up an' all. " he pulled out his everpresent notes and started scribbling.
"Gotta make sure i remember ta research a way to give an instant courage boost that ain't just booze. No way am i gonna remember this when i sober up" Unfortunately, drunk mordy had terrible handwriting, and his diagrams tended to devolve into stick figures in absurd poses.
[2:31:49 PM | Edited 2:33:05 PM] Numbers: She snorts, "As if I'm ever NOT working with you guys? I do rogue's work, I need a partner system whether I like it or not." Strange to remember Anisa did things that might have made Sigmarr jealous. Was he jealous when she worked with the drow? She never thought of it that way, not ever. "I'm just one of you, down on hard times and doing what I can to get by. I don't even know how all it happened with him. It just... happens sometimes. Pretty sure it would have been all the same if we stayed in the guard."
How desperate and pathetic would she have to be to wish they stayed with the goddamn system , all if it meant keeping him alive and safe. Didn't matter, it was all over now. Good memories aside, good riddance.
She watches him scribble with curiosity. "If it helps, moving and stabbing aren't all I'm good for. I've done my fair share of detective and snooping work when I was a guard. Hell, I even published a book. I wonder what else I'm good at that I don't know yet." There's almost the hints of a wistful, tipsy smile on her face.
[3:09:00 PM] David: "Y'could prolly do all kindsa things" he drew an additional line, tongue poking out the corner of his mouth. "I mean, yer good with words, willin' to ignore the rules when they're in th' way, an' you ain't exactly hard on the eyes. I'd bed ya'd make a great politician if ya put yer mind to it." What may have been some kind of wrist mounted grapple launcher, if you squinted and drank a fifth of vodka began to take shape on the page. "Or hell, be a spy or somethin'. Haven't had a good Master Criminal here in ages, an' I know a few o' my cousins are really missin' gettin' to properly use their smugglin' network. Th' damn thieves guild thinks too small, or so they tell me". He grinned. "Hell, play both sides. Set yerself up as a cop, an' chase yerself. Once we bag the mirror, that's an easy way ta be in two places at once" he nodded. "Or, y'know, take over th' kingdom. Ven an' Tor at least would be right behind ya. I swear half the time they're forcibly stoppin themselves from treatin' ya like a Matriarch"
[3:50:43 PM | Edited 3:57:37 PM] Numbers: Though her nose wrinkles at the sound of "politics" she listens carefully, deeply. The image of her running through the night as some kind of dime novel spy fill her mind, a romantic thought. The fact Ven and Tor treated her like some kind of pseudo beta-Matron only fed into her fantasy.
"It would be nice, wouldn't it? But politics were always Reuben's thing... If he ever comes back, maybe we can bring him into the mix. I can counterfeit paperwork and do good dirty work, haha... I know a thing or two about publication too." Rather than dwell on their poor dead lawyer, she aimlessly reaches for another bottle of Johnny's.
"I'm more about ignoring the system, truth be told. Sneak past all that shit and do what I want." She gives Mordy an informative little smirk as she pops the bottle open. "Everything I know I picked up from others. The thieves' guild, the Dragons, hell, my own mother. I wasn't exactly an outstanding citizen even before I moved to Cores' Pass and she wasn't exactly a great role model."
Boy was this whiskey still hard to swallow. It was a mini sport everytime she took a drink, but she kept a strong face. Swaying a bit though, never drink gnome whiskey too fast. Maybe never drink gnome whiskey at all
"I mean... I'm not bad I don't think. I don't want anyone hurt, not if they mean well. I do what's right, even if it's the 'wrong' way. I 'turned around' the last few years when I was a guard but lemme tell you, it was hardly worth it. Why? Cuz I lost my sergeant and I lost Sigmarr. What good has playing nice ever done any of us? HAH!"
[4:08:28 PM] David: 'I been thinkin' bout that a lot lately, even before we went ta that double damn city" three seemed to be the magic number of bottles, the alcohol was well and truly starting to sink in, and possibly out his pores like an unusually high proof dwelf if he drank much more. not that it was going to stop him 'I mean, look at how this city, this city treats th' people who ain't quite a good fit. Th' ones who ain't quite good, or a lil on the weird side, or just no a popular species. Sure, they get ta live here, but they ain't exactly treated th' best, yanno?" he scratched out a few lines and started work on what might possibly have been some kind of mask. or a decorative lamp. it was getting increasingly hard to be sure.
"you said it yerself, it just hasn't been worth it, an tryin' ta play things th' way they want hasn't done anythin but make us make bad compromises, an' get turned away when we ask for help. If we get through alla this, it's gotta change." the sip well and proper burned on the way down this time, though that may have just been the lining of his esophagus starting to dissolve. Johnny did not mess around with his brews. There was a reason he tended to win the prize during Pubmas.
"An' don't sell yerself short, yer a plenny good role model, just not for the kinds a kids who say they wanna be in th' guard when they grow up. Th' other kind, the ones who actually wanna get somethin' done because they've never had someone do it for em." he waved the bottle. "That's why I was sayin' politics, somebody's gotta be out there actually speakin' for the ones who need it, an' you've been there. Get Rube to back you up with his champion obfusticatin' an yer all set".
[4:32:34 PM] Numbers: Even if she was starting to lose Mordy on the accent, she nods her heavy head to the tone of his voice. Every other sentence she can decode sounds solid to her intoxicated little brain. "Yeah, yeah, I mean I don't even HATE everyone dumb enough to buy into the system. They can't aaaaall be like us. It's kinda admirable, and I still want to protect them. They don't know what it's like to be freaks like us. I'm not that uncommon where I come from, buut... the fact I'm almost the only woman out there trudging through our adventures says enough."
Pretty much everyone got to hear all the silly rumors and tabloids in town, but frankly Anisa was just surprised they couldn't come up with something more exciting than her being a whore.
Because, like, she wouldn't even mind if it was true. "It would have been helluva lot easier had I been born a boy. I can't even be a proper whore like the tabloids wanted. Shit, Mordy, think of all the sex men in the house are having with everyone but me. What a riot!"
She's starting to drift off topic, didn't help she felt heavier than stone.
[4:40:08 PM] David: "heh. that's just 'cuz ya picked made th' mistake o' hookin' up with a group where everybody's either gay, married, too uptight ta hook up, or Sigmarr." it wasn't really all that funny, but damn if the booze wasn't starting to make it feel that way.
"I mean, I get the feelin'. Everybody's got some kinda preestablished relationship, or wants one, an' here comes me from th' outside. I ain't exactly gettin' much of a shot with my own kind, on grounds of none of 'em really wants to venture out much, aan' I can't blame em. Gets kinda tiresome when everyone expects ya to randomly explode. S'not like we're Prinnies or anythin'. Hell, I ain't even had much of a chance ta date outside my species, 'cause we're always on some quest or another an' there ain't time. I was hopin' ta get ta know Brearya, but look how that one turned out. "
It was even further off topic, but it's not like he could properly stay on the original topic by this point anyway.
[5:14:35 PM] Numbers: Staying on topic was for the sober. She nods trying her best to look somber for his behalf. "Yeah, sorry about that. I almost forgot. For all the shit I say about high elves, they didn't deserve that..."
Having the longer arms, she scoots up to pat the gnome's back. "I mean, loooook at it this way: you're the one that's alive. Not exploded. Anythin's possible. Somethin's gotta happen, give it time. You might find somebody. Not that I blame you if you don't want a'nother one. I sure as hell don't."
She takes a swig but promptly chokes on it having swallowed too fast. Coughingh, she pounds on her chest like it's nothing. God, she can't get through another bottle and not puke later. So away it goes, pushed away for now.
"Gods... If he comes back, what d'I say? Would it be a bad time? What if I'm takin... advantage of the sshituation. ....Who the ffffffuuuuuuck cares."
[5:18:48 PM] David: "Why say anythin? Jess... Jess smooch 'em. Less words ta trip on that way. Be a nice.. A nice welcome back" He took one final sip, then his head tipped forward and bonked face first on the table. "Comin back frum th ded s' a ggood exuse ta take advannage anyway"
the table was nice. even if it muffled his words, it was supportive.
[5:27:15 PM] Numbers: She slowly sags on the table surface herself, not even consuming two bottles. But the longer she waits the drunker she gets. Wouldn't be gnome whiskey if it wasn't fast. "I... could. I already kissed him before, he was pass out atta bar. I really jus want'd to tell 'im this time..." She tries to reach to pat his back again but gives up halfway though, arm fall back down.
Unlike the foggy, sad state she was in, when (if) the time came she had to be clear. No more games, she was going to to lay it out in simple common before she ever lost him again.
