Day 19 / 365 Percy and Low-Key Lighting This is the same setup I did with Penny on Day 16, but Percy couldn't keep still. Also, I had to adjust the f-stop because of Percy's light fur.

Day 18 / 365 The Stratosphere from Sahara Blvd.
View of the Stratosphere from Sahara Blvd.
Day 17 / 365 Ninja-Gypsy Burlesque Dancer
I attended a burlesque show and this lady was one of the dancers.
Day 16 / 365 Penny and Low-Key Lighting
I did high-key lighting for Day 14, which was making the background all white and the picture all bright. Next was low-key lighting, which is making the background dark and the lighting dramatic. Penny was lying on the couch, and I covered her area with a black sheet. With the speedlight on a stand and a soft box, I had it pointed down to her at 1/16 power.
To remove any visible creases on the background, I just darkened it in Photoshop.
I wished I used my 2nd flash as a backlight, but Penny kept on moving around to the point where I had to use continuous focus.
Day 15 / 365 Sisters on Fremont Street It was my turn to be in front of the camera, so Erica graciously took pictures of my husband and I on Fremont Street. At the end of the shoot, I wanted to try my new Yongnuo YN-560III, so I had my husband become the human lightstand.
Day 14 / 365 High-Key Lighting with Yashica
I finally purchased a 2nd speedlight, a Yongnuo YN-560III for only $65! Whenever I get new equipment, I usually use myself as the guinea pig. This time, I wanted to try high-key lighting, meaning the background is all white with no shadows in the background. Because I left my lightstand in the car and my husband took the car while I was taking these shots, I put my new speedlight on a tripod. Luckily, the speedlight has a built-in receiver, so I didn't need to use one of my receivers. I used this flash for to light the background. I used my old speedlight and put it on a lightstand with a 52" bounce umbrella, point about 45 degrees and placed camera left. This was the end result.
Day 13 / 365 Erica in Las Vegas Erica is a photographer from Seattle. She initially found me through my website, asking me to take pictures of her during her trip in Vegas. It's nice to network with other photographers from different parts of the country. In exchange for taking pictures of her, she will be taking pictures of my husband and I a couple days later. I'm really looking forward to it.
Day 12 / 365 Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse Oh how I wished I had a longer telescopic lens. Even at 200mm, it still didn't cut it. At least the red appeared
Day 11 / 365 Penny's New Bed
This is Penny's first appearance on my 365 project part 2. She is thoroughly enjoying her new bed.
Day 10 / 365 Mission Beach HDR After visiting my friends, I tried to catch whatever was remaining of the sunset. Luckily, the nearest beach was only 15 minutes away. However, I didn't have much time setting things up, so this was the best I've got.
Day 9 / 365 Michelle's Baby Shower
Isn't mama positively glowing and happy during her pregnancy? Her baby shower was really fun. It was good to see her.
Day 8 / 365 Natalie and Urban Lights I always wanted to do a major photo shoot at the Urban Lights display at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, but I wanted to scope out the location first. I've been always scared to do shoots where there's a chance that security will stop me because I don't have a permit to shoot, and permits are expensive and tedious to obtain! I happened to be in town and grabbed my friend Natalie to do a few test shoots to scope out the place. To my delight, no one stopped me when they saw my light stand and flash. Unfortunately, there were many people there taking pictures, which resulted in photo-bombers. The original, straight-out-of-camera (SOOC) shot had people behind her and my backpack and light stand off to the side.
Day 7 / 365 Long Exposure HDR Taking regular HDR shots is pretty simple, especially since I have bracketing on my camera, but taking long exposure HDR is tough! Most of the 6 shots I took to create this image had shutter speeds of 30 seconds. The wind was picking up and I was scared of getting blurry shots, especially in the trees. Luckily, I was done before it became really windy. The white star burst in the sky is the moon. It was my only light source that allowed me to take this shot with automatic focus. I really liked the cloud that was lingering in the sky!
Day 6 / 365 Kodak Brownie Bullet - Macro Shot
I tried starting a vintage / unique camera collection last year, but I spent more money the latest equipment to help build my photography business, so I haven't bought a camera since. My most favorite one is the Kodak Brownie Bullet, which came out in the 1950's. Apparently, this camera is fairly new and might be functional. However, it takes 127 film, which is hard to find. Since this camera only takes 8 shots and places with darkrooms can only develop 127 film, it is also expensive.
I took this with my 35mm lens with a fisheye/macro lens extension. I used on-camera flash with the speedlight pointed at 45 degrees and turned 30 degrees to bounce of the wall. The speedlight was at 1/2 power.
Day 5 / 365 Monzie - Photo Shoot This was taken at The Smith Center. I love the high-fashion bright and in-your-face lighting. I used my speedlight at full-power without any diffusers, and it created this shot.
Day 4 / 365 Sarah - Lake Las Vegas Shootout
This was taken on the same day as Day 3. Even though it was a couples shootout, I wanted to get solos of Sarah because she's just so beautiful!
Day 3 / 365 Jessee and Lexi - Couple's Shootout
I love photography shootouts! This shooutout was couples-themed, which is very helpful for people doing engagement and wedding portraits.
As an aspiring fashion photographer, I tried to put an edgy spin on couple's portraits by having Lexie grab Jesse's tie. I love the expression on Jessie's face!
