you wake up before your first alarm.

that should be a sign in itself that something is wrong.

your throat hurts, your head is pounding and your room feels hotter than usual.

you definitely have a fever.

you reach over on your nightstand and check the time on your phone

6:13am

there’s no way your making it to school

you groan and open instagram to message bakugo

you don’t know why but that’s what your mind goes to immediately.

probably because you’ve been working together so often and you want him to know you won’t be on option for that today.

or he’s just always someone you think about when something goes wrong.

no. its definitely the first option.

bakugo sits in class alone. well, of course he’s not alone but the seat beside him which you usually sat in is empty. he knows you aren’t coming today but he keeps checking the door.

he doesn’t care that your gone though. he’s just checking because of his curiosity.

when it’s time to choose partners during a practice fight bakugo looks around for you, then remembers your not there.

he walks over to kirishima

kirishima teases

“shut up”

bakugo rolls his eyes and scoffs

“are you only choosing me because

y/n’s not here?”

bakugo freezes when asked that question before shrugging

“she’s the only one worthy enough to work with me”

he snarls

kirishima laughs and nudges him in the shoulder.

bakugo scoffs at any type of physical contact made by kirishima.

y/n wouldn’t do this

he thinks.

the practice mission goes fine. they work together, not as well as you and bakugo though.

kirishima is loud, energetic.

he tries fist bumping bakugo after every success

you end up scrolling till you fall asleep, phone on your chest as you doze off.

you wake up to two notifications from bakugo.

he sent you a funny cat video?

your first thought is;

this has to be a joke.

does he actually indulge in this content??

the thought of bakugo laughing over a cat video makes you giggle.

you can’t help but make fun of him.

this one might be my favorite so far it was so fun to write.

its also 5am so if there’s any grammar mistakes i apologize and this will be like officially throughly proofread when i wake up tmrw.

it’s been a few days of occasionally acknowledging bakugo as a friend/acquaintance.

if that’s a nod or a slight awkward wave.

even if it wasn’t a big deal it was for them. they didn’t hate eachother anymore.

mr. aizawa is standing in front of the class outside the ground gamma.

“we are doing a rescue exercise. choose your partner.”

everyone starts pairing up and you look around.

you notice bakugo and hesitate.

before you can awknowledge it he’s walking over to you.

he stands infront of you and just stares. arms crossed.

“…yes?”

you ask raising an eyebrow

“we’re partners now. got it?”

you shake your head

“no asking?”

“what are you gonna say no?”

you roll your eyes

“..no.”

“exactly.”

he stands next to you

when everyone finds their partner mr. aizawa begins explaining the “mission”

“today you will be going into a simulated disaster zone. the goal is to save civilians trapped under the rubble. some are injured, some are trapped, but some are bait. there will be robot villains trying to interfere with the rescue. the objective isn’t to abuse your quirk. try relying more on combat skills and spatial awareness.”

as your teacher opens the doors to the ground gamma you notice the rummage every where. falling debris, dust, and collapsed buildings.

mr. aizawa continues explains once everyone’s stepped inside.

“each pair will go in one at a time and try to save at least 1 civilian before the time runs out. the more you save, the better you score. you get 10 minutes. any volunteers to go first?”

you look around and reluctantly raise your hand.

“bakugo and i can go first.”

bakugo watches you raise your hand and nods.

“everyone else, wait out here”

as you and bakugo step into the “battle” zone, the clock begins ticking. which means there’s no time to waste.

your head perks up when you hear a scream

“this way”

you point and bakugo follows behind you

the recorded scream keeps replaying and guiding you to the direction of your first rescue.

as you approach the civilian robot trapped under some rubble bakugo stops you

“wait. it might be a decoy”

he puts his arm infront of you before you can walk over and lift the rock up.

“well, how do we know if it is?”

you ask

“we don’t. just be cautious.”

you nod and go to lift up the rocks as bakugo scans the rooftops around you two.

there’s a moment of silence as you struggle to life the concrete slab

then suddenly;

a crack forms in the building above you. you don’t notice, but bakugo does.

“move.”

he orders from behind you. you rotate your head to look at him

“huh?”

“move!”

you look up and freeze for a second before bakugo grabs your arm and yanks you out of the way.

you fall to the ground as the spot you were just standing in gets crushed by a piece of falling rubble from the building above.

you cough, dust flying everywhere

“what the fuck?”

you exclaim

“you shoved me!”

you continue

“you weren’t listening.”

“i didn’t know what you meant!”

“i said move dumbass”

“you could’ve pointed or something!”

he rolls his eyes and points at the civilian still trapped under even more rubble now.

you roll your eyes and continue the rescue.

when you retrieve the robot from under all the concrete you throw it over your shoulder, grunting as you stand back up.

bakugo is a few feet ahead of you, searching for a villain or another bystander.

you both stop in your tracks and turn around when you hear walking behind you.

a villain stands in front of you.

you take a glance behind you and bakugo is holding his arm up, getting ready to blast an explosion at the robot.

you understand what’s going on and look back at the villain and duck.

as soon as you do you see bakugos blast fire above your head.

“go.”

he orders from behind you.

you nod and start running for a safe place to drop the robot in your hands off at.

bakugo follows behind you not too long after, a couple blasts was enough to defeat the robot.

you find an empty half demolished building and run into it. you set the dummy down and turn to bakugo running in a few seconds later.

“not to bad out there”

you comment

“yeah, you finally took a look around you”

he snarks

you roll your eyes

“what do we do now?”

you ask

bakugo pokes his head out of the building entry and checks the timer

“seven minutes left.”

you nod

“we should get going then.”

you say as bakugo goes to grab the robot.

you watch him and internally sigh of relief, that stupid thing was heavy.

you both take a step out of the building and start walking down the pavement.

your on the look out for anything suspicious.

the next five minutes go by quickly. just walking through collapsed buildings and checking under rocks for any one to rescue.

you have two minutes left and as you approach the exit you hear screams.

you keep walking and bakugo stops.

“we already passed.”

you say gesturing to the already rescued bot.

“who cares about passed. we can get extra points”

you sigh

“oh my god”

you groan as you both start sprinting towards the screams.

he quickly throws the rocks off the robot and grabs it before passing it off to you, since he’s already carrying one.

30 seconds.

you both are running as fast as you can.

suddenly, buildings start collapsing.

as you get closer to the exit the falling rocks and concrete increase.

10 seconds.

you watch your step as your trying to dodge the falling debris

9 seconds.

as your running, you trip.

then a hand grabs you and pulls you back up quickly.

bakugo helped you up.

8 seconds.

you take no time to recover and keep

sprinting.

you both exit the ring with 5 seconds to spare.

out of breathe you thank bakugo

“thanks for catching me”

“i didn’t want to loose”

mr aizawa stands at the exit and nods at you both

“well done.”

you smile and drop the second robot bakugo made you carry.

your hands drop to your knees as you lean over to catch your breathe.

“you make a good team”

aizawa comments.

it’s not the first time a teachers said that either.

this one is less plot more slow burn. just kinda showing they are sorta kinda friends now.

your laying in bed. scrolling through instagram. you can’t sleep so this is just something to pass the time.

you keep replaying the moment when bakugo actually acknowledged you, and it wasn’t with a scoff or an eye roll.

you groan and cover your face with your hands.

why is that moment replaying in your head.

you don’t even like him. you hate him.

or.. you thought you did

suddenly a notification pops up.

what?

this has to be a mistake.. right?

maybe he miss clicked

maybe he’s just following the whole class.

should you follow him back?

maybe wait a few minutes so you don’t seem like you were waiting for this moment.

you get another notification.

no way

okay this definitely wasn’t an accident.

maybe you are friends now?

you sigh as you reach over to your backpack and drop the pencil in his extended hand.

the rest of class you don’t say anything to eachother. just sit there.

it’s not awkward.

somehow… it’s quieter than that.

a week ago sitting in silence with bakugo would’ve felt impossible.

it’s almost routine.

as the bell rings you pack up your stuff and sling your backpack over your shoulder.

you go to open the door before a voice stops you;

he tosses your pencil at you and you quickly catch it

it’s the day of your presentation. you feel relived you don’t have to worry about studying some old hero or your hand cramping from taking notes so much.

but, it’s also the last day you and bakugo will ever work together on this.

well, unless you get paired together again.

that thought brings you hope.

for some reason…

“okay, who would like to start!”

ms. kayama asks the class.

kirishams hand shoot’s up.

“me and midoriya can go first!”

he says with to much enthusiasm for a school project.

they both walk up to the front of the class and present their slide show. kirishima had to much energy but midoriya got really into it when talking about the hero.

when they wrap up the presentation everyone claps.

“well done!”

ms kayama compliments.

they both return to their seats and your teacher begins scanning the room, choosing who to present next.

her eyes stop on you.

bakugo shrugs and stands up, his hands in his pockets and his pants sagging as always.

this chapter is more dialogue than anything. i’m trying to close the project arc off smoothly.

this chapter is more dialogue than anything. wrapping up the project arc.

the next few days settle into something strange.

not bad.

not peaceful.

just.. strange.

you work together during class and occasionally meet in the library for extra study time. you work on the presentation and he works mostly on the essay.

its a solid system, of course there’s still bickering and fighting over wording and layout. he tells you your ideas are stupid or the photos you would try to put on the powerpoint are “ugly”. you still roll your eyes at every time he clicks his tongue at you.

but somehow, the project actually starts coming together.

it’s the day before the project is due and there’s still things to be finished.

you sit in history class next to bakugo typing on your laptop working on the presentation portion of the project. bakugo sits next to you reading sources off his laptop and writing the essay.

“is the essay coming along?”

you ask not looking up from your laptop. your finding photos for the emptier slides and pasting them next to the long paragraphs explaining a quirk and the history of your hero.

“mhm”

he responds in a hum

you nod and continue your search for stock photos.

“slide 3 still looks like shit”

he mutters still writing

you stop typing and grind your teeth

“then how would you do it bakugo?”

you ask sarcasticly

“delete all the dumb photos”

“no! that’s what makes it cute”

“it’s not cute it’s ugly.”

“what’s ugly about them?”

you ask titling your head

“the colors”

you look at him and blink a few times

“what do you not like the color blue?”

“they aren’t the same shade. ”

you scoff

“it’s blue!”

you throw your hands up

“ones navy blue, ones royal blue. fix it.”

you hands slap onto your lap and you bite the inside of your cheek and roll your eyes

“your actually unbelievable”

you say, your hands going back to the keyboard of your laptop.

“just work on your essay and shut the hell up”

you click your tongue as you delete the “ugly” photos and get two that are the same shade. you hate to admit it but it does look better, as much as you hate the way he corrects you or rewrites one of your bullet points, it’s always an improvement.

as bakugo continues working he drops his pencil in between his desk and yours. he puts his arm on your desk, your arm brushing his as he leans over to try and grab his pencil before clicking his tongue. there’s not enough room.

“move”

he orders

“you could say ‘excuse me’, you know?”

“move.”

he orders again, this time harsher.

“rude”

you say scooting your desk far away enough for him to reach and grab his pencil again.

you both sit and work diligently.

you finish up the slide show and take your hands away from the laptop, cracking your knuckles from all the typing you did.

you yawn, covering your mouth and rubbing your eyes.

“didn’t sleep?”

he asks scrolling through some news paper on his laptop

the question catches you off guard. of all the things you expected him to comment on, your sleeping habits weren’t one of them.

“was that concern?”

you ask tilting you head

“no.”

he answers so quick it sound automatic.

you click your tongue

“sounded like concern”

you mumble through your teeth and go back to save your work on your laptop

“shut up”

as you both finish the remaining work for the project you exchange tasks, he lets you read the essay and you give him your laptop to go through the slide show.

“good job on the essay”

you say nodding after you finish reading it

he gives you the laptop back as you set the essay on his desk again

“the presentation didn’t suck as bad as i thought it would.”

he says with no emotion at all.

you gasp dramatically and put your hand over your heart

it’s the next day. the day after you and bakugo actually worked together in the library. surprisingly it wasn’t actually as bad as you though it would be. granted you argued, a lot, but you eventually got some work done.

you walk into class, bakugos already sitting at his desk, 2 rows to the left of yours.

you pretend not to notice him

he pretends not to notice you

neither of you says anything.

as you sit down and everyone settles into class ms kayama announces;

“i hope everyone’s making progress on their projects!”

bakugo groans

you roll your eyes

mina ashido sits directly in front of you. as your teacher is taking attendance she turns around in her chair and rests her elbows on your desk.

“soooo, y/n… how’d the library go?”

she asks raises and eyebrow and tilting her head

“then why are you smiling?”

bakugo just sits there at his desk, his arms crossed, and shakes his head.

ms. kayama continues announcing the plan for today

“so because you guys need to work, i will let you do that this class period. you may sit by your partner. lets try to keep the noise level down a bit though”

she says sitting down at her desk and writing something in her papers.

you drag your feet over to the empty desk by bakugo, whoever was sitting there before moved somewhere else, probably to their partner.

as you sit by him his legs, which were sprawled out under the desks beside him, slowly drag back to rest under his desk. his arms remaining crossed.

you notice that and it gives you room to set your backpack to the side of your desk.

you both grab your note books in silence.

you also grab the library book from your bag. right now you hadn’t chosen a hero, you were just taking notes on some to see who you wanted to write about.

you open the page to where you both left off.

as bakugo already begins writing you search for your pencil. you realize it isn’t on your desk so you go to grab it. without looking up from his notebook bakugo mumbles;

“your gonna grab that stupid pink mechanical pencil again aren’t you”

as you grab ahold of it you head perks up as you slowly turn to face bakugo.

“…how did you know?”

you asks, your eyebrows scrunched in confusion

“because you always use that stupid pencil”

he states, while still writing

you both sit there in silence as you go back to your notebook before you whisper;

“creepy.”

“i’ve been in the same class as you for years dumbass”

he defends himself.

you both go back to the silence.

after a few moments of writing in silence you break it.

he orders

you shake your head

“absolutely not”

he huffs and hates the fact your controlling everything. he knows your good at project but the thought of him not being in control of everything makes him angry.

kirishama, who’s been sitting infront of you this whole time which is weird because you hadn’t even noticed, turns around in his desk and look in between the two of you.

“didn’t know you did home work bakubro”

he says teasingly

“shut up”

he mumbles, his grip on the pencil he’s holding tightening.

you chuckle quietly at the sight of bakugo getting flustered.

he whips his head to face you. his eyebrows crinkled as he looks at you with his beaming red eyes.

“sorry!”

you say between chuckles and cover your mouth.

he rolls his eyes and goes back to writing

“idiot”

he mumbles

another moment of silence..

“bakubro”

you whisper mockingly. your leg under your table suddenly gets kicked by bakugo. he doesn’t look up from his writing as he grins teasingly.

after he kicks you, you go back to writing.

in silence.

which was weirder then arguing.

you finish taking notes on the hero from that page and as you go to turn the page, katsuki does aswell.

your fingers brush and you both freeze..

before both yanking your hands away

“MOVE EXTRA”

he yells.

you gasp

“IM TURNING THE PAGE DUMBASS”

you yell back

he huffs and waits for you to turn the page and as you do he mumbles;

“finally”

you slam your pencil on the desk and whip your head to look at him

“shut the hell up”

you bark.

you slowly look back to your notes and began writing again.

as you both take notes you glance over to bakugos notebook. he’s writing about the wrong hero on the page. you notice and point it out

“oh we’re writing about this guy now”

you point to the hero on the page in the book.

“oh.”

he looks at the book and his notes

you go back to writing yours

“thanks”

he mumbles

you look up and rotate your head slowly to look at him

he’s still writing

“…don’t make this weird”

he mumbles

“i wasn’t”

you reassure

bakugo looks at your notes now since you brought it upon yourself to look at his. he’s just trying to find ways to correct you. he notices you wrote the wrong date on something

“wrong year.”

he says staring at you

your head lifts from your notes and looks back at him

“…huh?”

you ask tilting your head

“you wrote 1998. it was 1990”

you look at your notes and notice the error

“oh. right.”

he goes back to writing

“wait you actually read the book?”

you asks smiling endeerly

“shut up.”

he mumbles.

you continue working until the bell rings. you got some notes done and ending up choosing a hero to do the project one, though bakugo didn’t really get a say in the choice.

working with him wasn’t super annoying

still annoying

but..

less annoying then usual.

chapter 2

chapter 1

yes chapter two is coming out the same night as chapter in because i love writing this 👀

as you both enter the library, bakugo very aggressively throws his backpack off his back and tosses it onto a chair sitting at an empty table.

you watch him throw his mini hissy fit as he plops himself in his chair. arms crossed. head thrown back. feet up on the desk.

you set your stuff down and glare at bakugo

“we need books”

he groans

“then get books”

you grab a binder from your backpack and slam it onto his feet, resting on the edge of the desk. he goes from balancing on the two back legs of his chair to the front legs abruptly hitting the ground as his feet move off the desk, shifting his balance.

he glares at you. fist clenching.

“your gonna regret that dumbass”

he snarls as he stands up and starts making his way over to the bookshelf.

you go onto the other side of the shelf. following him.

bakugo begins picking up random books, books that have nothing to do with the project at all. as your skimming through a old history book written when quirks were first discovered, you notice him randomly opening books and aggressively shoving them back into the shelves. his eyebrows furrow as he reads a few pages of some book about a social experiment. you roll your eyes at his clumsiness, but you also kinda find it entertaining. though, fun always has to end.

“hey dipshit”

you call out.

he snaps his head

“we’re not looking at lab monkey experiments. we’re looking for a book on hero history.”

bakugo looks at the book then closes it to look at the title. he rolls his eyes then looks back at you.

he shoves the book back onto the shelf and sarcastically smiles while flipping you off.

you flip him off back and continue searching for a book.

your fingers slide across an old ripped up book spine. it reads:

“japans first hero’s”

you tilt you head and slide the book out.

bakugos staring. he’s definitely trying not to, though it’s kinda hard when your standing there reading some old ripped up book and he’s got nothing else to do. bakugo glances over. you’re still standing there with your nose buried in that stupid old book.

how the hell can someone look that focused?

he catches himself staring.

“tch.”

He immediately looks away and continues to look for a book

you nod while reading and began to say something

“hey i think i-“

you turn to face bakugo and he’s staring at you. no hatred this time. though it comes back really quickly. his expression changed and he looks back at the books

“what, nerd?!”

he asks grabbing a random book from the shelf

you raise your eyebrow but continue talking anyways

“i uh, i think i found our book”

you hold it up so he can read the title

“looks shitty”

you rolls your eyes and turn away and walk around the shelf and back to the table.

bakugo comes back and slams a book on the table and throws himself in his chair.

as he slams it a cloud of dust flys up

you cough dramatically

“are you trying to kill me?”

you say waving your hands in the hair fanning the dust away from your face

“would save me time wouldn’t it”

after your done coughing you look up to see what book he could’ve possibly grabbed.

“japan’s best modern hero’s”

you read.

he smirks and scoffs.

“yeah i think i found our book.”

his ego is definitely way to big.

“i found our book 30 seconds ago.”

you state.

“you were there”

you continue

he rolls his eyes and points at the book

“why don’t we just do it on all might or something”

you shake your head

“we aren’t doing our fucking project on all might. i bet everyone’s doing that anyways”

bakugo turns and leans into the table

“well why the hell not?”

he snaps

“because he’s the number one hero. do you know how cliche that is?”

you reply

“then who do we do it about?”

he asks

“literally anyone else”

you throw your hands up

“your being difficult”

he complains

you roll your eyes

“and your being boring”

bakugo shakes his head and crosses his arms. plopping his back to the chair and sliding down it.

you watch him as he soaks in his anger. you can tell you annoyed him, worse than he already was, and know he’s not gonna do anything.

“we have to take notes”

he groans

you scoot your chair next to him and open the book to a page on a random hero. you begin taking notes. when bakugo doesn’t you kick him under the table.

“notes.”

you demand

he grinds his teeth against eachother and yanks his notebook out of his backpack and strarts basically scribbling the notes on the page.

when your finished writing you turn to look at bakugo. his face a few inches from the notebook paper. breathing heavily as his knuckles turn white from gripping the pencil so hard.

“can i flip the page”

you ask.

“do whatever the fuck you want. not reading anyways”

even though he claimed he wasn’t reading, he still wrote exactly what he needed to down, actually legible this time.

“you know you’ve got decent hand writing”

you say without looking up from your notes

bakugo glances at you and his notebook before muttering

“shut up”

you smirk teasingly and flip the page.

you can tell he’s holding a lot of his anger back, or at least trying to. he’s taking it out on the paper and his poor knuckles. he’s barley talking, and when he does it’s just groans or snarky remarks. he does the work though. you check the time on your phone and notice study halls almost over

“we should start packing up.”

you say quietly

the blonde hums in response

“hmm”

which was his way of saying “okay” with an attitude. when they both pack up you start walking out and bakugo trails behind you before keeping the pace right next to you.

as your walking out he ends up a little bit ahead of you. when he opens the door he ends up holding it for you. before realizing what he’s doing and slaming it in your face.

“fucking ow”

you say dramatically before opening the door and catching up to the blonde again.

he slows down to walk next you.

he doesn’t look at you. he’s just, there.

you glance at him and scoff.

chapter 1

this is my first fanfiction that’s a “character x reader” so i’m sorry if it’s not very good.

you sit in ms kayamas class, modern hero history. your bored. tired. hungry.

you aren’t quite listening to what’s going on but when you begin to tune in you hear something about a… group project?

“and i will assign partners. ”

your teacher announces. you don’t really have anyone you don’t necessarily not like in your class. well, besides katsuki bakugo. you’ve been “mortal enemies” since elementary. there’s not really a reason it’s just happened over time. the way he acts like he’s above everyone, his ego, his stupid spiky hair. everything about him irks you.

ms. kayama goes around and assigns partners.

“midoriya with kirishima”

she points at the two, sitting on opposite ends of the room. heads turn to the two boys.

“yayarozu and.. kaminari”

your eyes glance over the two, seems reasonable. you wonder if there’s a pattern to the particularly random choice of partners.

suddenly ms. kayama says your name. you immediately look at her and glance around the room wondering who your going to get.

“y/n and bakugo”

no. no fucking way. your hands cover your face as you groan into them.

“WHAT?”

the blonde haired boy snarls.

his head snaps to look at you and his brows furrow.

you slowly lower your hands and mock bakugo as he’s talking

he starts very loudly yelling on about how he doesn’t want to work with a stupid extra like you. though it’s hard to understand when his raspy voice is ringing into your ear nonstop

you roll your eyes and turn your head to look at him

“shut up”

you say raising your eyebrows, egging him on. you turn your body back to the front of the class, paying no attention to how he responds. being enemies with him means you know every way to get under his skin.

ms. kayama is now regretting her decision, but she knows they have to get over this feud.

“anyone but her”

he orders the teacher, she scoffs and ignores katsuki and continues to assign partners.

when everyone’s been assigns he begans explaining the project.

“you will choose a hero to study, make a presentation and an essay on them. next thursday you will present it infront of your peers.”

as she explains it you start to imagine having to.. study, with bakugo. your head slowly turns to him. your face covered in disgust and you groan. knowing him he’s probably going to make you do everything. although that would be better than having to actually work with him.

when the bell rings everyone begans packing up. it’s study hall. which means now would be a good opportunity to began working on their project.

when you finish packing up you look at bakugo, he’s talking to kirishma about some stupid topic i’m sure.

you suck up all the hatred for bakugo and walk over to him.

“it’s study hall”

you announce

the blonde boy shrugs and raises an eyebrow

“and?”

you cross your arms

“we have a project” you raise your eyebrows sarcastically

he scoffs

“im not doing that bullshit”

he barks. kirishama slowly backs away and exits the classroom

“it’s a fucking partner project i’m not doing all of it by myself dipshit”

“too bad”

he mocks as he looks away and packs up his stuff. trying his best to ignore you.

you silently stand there. as he exits the classroom you follow behind. you follow very closely behind him. every turn he makes you make too.

your not letting this go.

he keeps walking and you hear him sigh as he notices you following him.

“go away dumbass”

he orders from infront of you.

you now slither up to be right beside him

“i’m only leaving if you go to the library with me and work on the project”

his grip on his backpack tightens

he speeds up, and of course when he does so do you. he rubs his face with his hands while groaning.

“don’t you have friends to annoy”

“nope” you say quickly and remain right by him.

“of course not”

he mutters. his breathing getting heavier by his pure annoyance.

suddenly,

he stops in his tracks and turns to face you.

“if i go to the damn library are you gonna finally get off my ass?”

he asks. rolling his eyes

you nod very enthusiastically

he sighs and throws his head back before looking at you squinting his eyes with agitation

“five minutes. that’s all your getting brat”

he exhales as he starts stomping to the library.

this is gonna be a very long project.
