Project #5: Performance Art
To remove my more stubborn lipsticks, I use almond oil. I decided to take something mundane I do almost every night and make a gross, awkward mess out of it as my performance.

Exercise #5: Richard Serra’s Verb List
Vanishing | Becoming, Project 4
Artist Statement:
For this project, I took the concept of vanishing and of becoming to heart. We tend to look mostly at the becoming part of life and neglect the other half, that of vanishing. To vanish means that you became and vice versa. I applied this concept to nature, where I get most of my inspiration. I decided to project the process of becoming with a butterfly’s metamorphosis, a bird hatching and flowers blooming and contrasted those images to those of vanishing by becoming prey, decaying and decomposition, and finally, the fading away of a beautiful flower. I included the sound of a beating heart to remind the viewer of their own beating heart and that as it beats, it is also part of this transformation. Vanishing and becoming are analogous to the circle of life, which I hope I have projected with this video.
This is my rough creepy cut of the project. With reading I was really forced on the the idea of silhouette and how that was a big thing they did before photos where around. I also liked the idea of keepsakes like music box of left behind lover. I hope to refine it soon.
“Vanashing and Becoming Me” @gabrielhutchings
In this art video I express my current struggle with my inner femininity and masculinity. Trying to find the harmony within as I explore my gender identity while also trying not to lose myself and my self expression. I utilize the use of sound, light, color and duration to get the overall feel of conflict and somberness. The sound that I distort is originally from my TV playing and my dog barking and I overlay a piano tone over it to bring it down. I sat in a dark room and my face is only lit up by my TV’s flickering screen. I edited the light color to have a orange tint over the blue shadows to help my face pop as the light brightens. I sped up the footage of me whipping off my makeup and then reversed it so it appears to come back on my face.

Project 4
This is a clip from Neil Breen’s movie “Fateful Findings”. It is one of the worst movies ever made. Therefore, it is the best movie ever made. Terrible movies are the highest form of art. I layered the audio to make an uncomfortable scene even more uncomfortable.

Project 3: The Loop (Forever)
Since this project is internet based, I decided to focus on the dangers of the internet and how easy it is for sexual predators to pray on children using social media. I made the gifs from the best reality show that has ever existed (hosted by Chris Hansen) : To Catch A Predator. The show takes something grotesque and turns it into an opportunity to laugh at how pathetic these pedophile men are and how easy they fall for decoys. I included some personal favorite moments of mine, like one man falling on his way to escape the confrontation (gif 3), a rabbi who got caught and attempted to beat up Chris Hansen (gif 7) and John Kennelly (gif 8) who walked into a house naked thinking he could entice a child.
This is a masterpiece.
Project 2 Postmodern Collage.
Part 1: What is postmodern art? I wanted to take some of the major elements that make up post modern art and put them together. There are ten images here, so i used ten elements that would define postmodern art:
(1)Escaping confines of gallery space. (2)Mass production art is not “high” art, play on “kitsch” art. (3)Postmodern Art does not care about originality. (4)Jouissance, the pleasure of crumpling a fresh piece of paper, and the sound that you expect it to make. (5)I secretly collaborated with multiple artist. (6)BY secretly collaborated, i really mean i appropriated their work without their consent or knowledge. (7)Somewhere there exist a series of copies of the final image, before it was crumpled into a ball; simulacra. (8)Mixing media types. (9)Using layers in multiple way here; not just the collage it self but also in the execution of the collage. (10)There is an obvious progression of time, and a hidden narrative.
Part two: The narrative is personal to my life as an artist. I always start projects, love them, then hate them, then scrap them, and start all over. Sometimes i scrap really good work because of one line that i do not like. Other times it is complete, actual trash and doesn’t deserve to see the light of day. Many times, it is all just in my head, and the art work never reaches the physical realm. Postmodern AF.
Collage fun Time
Collage is something that has be around for some time. For me it is something that I really don’t do that often. With this piece I didn’t want to use just pictures. So I did a lot of image searches and archive, which was not the hard part as I have been doing that for a few years collecting art ideas. This of course gave me tones of ideas. I like to think of it as a collection of idea you just put it in a different brain.
I really likes the idea of painting on printed pages, so I collated Victorian new ads and flowers, as they had a whole language of flowers. I made a huge long art board as I wanted to mimic Japan art scrolls as you could just look at one image at a time or you could look at the whole thing. I wanted to show time a couple of ways one though the tree of life, saying that time moves is a cycle, then with the with the women and their changing hair. For motion and movement goes hand and hand for me. I wanted to create images where you eye flowed around the image, I used the flowers, hair, and images getting bigger and more colorful. As for the any hidden meaning I will leave that for the view to decide.
