The more I read and learn about the ways of patriarchy the more clear it is that abortion bans are the advance guard of patriarchal fascism...from medieval Ireland (as described in the great book by Mary Condren, The Serpent and the Goddess) to contemporary Muslim and Catholic patriarchal hells.Ā My anthology Choice Words Writers on Abortion shows the same kinds of oppressive patterns in the literature ofĀ 6 centuries & 5 continents.Ā Posting this poem in solidarity with our sisters in Texas, and all over the US, and all over the world!

Today Iām savoring and celebrating the 29th birthday of this extraordinary young man, my son the actor @julian.finch. What a privilege for @glebrand and me to welcome this sweet strong fierce dedicated courageous loving kind soul into our lives as our firstborn on that intense home-birthing day in North Beach just after I turned in my Stanford dissertation. Ever since, we have done our best to honor his unique path, to share our values and our love unstintingly, and to support his amazing journey as he experiences life to the hilt and follows the flame of his bright talent and burning drive to share his extraordinary gifts with the world by becoming the finest actor he can be.
