Based on a true story
i hate so much that i understood this reference...
One time I was dating a guy and I took him to dinner with my family and I couldn't figure out why the staff were looking at us weird and then my grandma said "it's amazing you found each other, you two are a matched set. You look basically identical. Same height, same hair, same eye colour, you even have the same eyebrows"
She said this with love and adoration while we realised every single other person in this restaurant saw a normal family come in and then the siblings kissed with tongue.
Lot of "girl what were YOU doing at the devils sacrament" energy coming out of these tags.
HEY NOW LISTEN
Yeah no you're right that's fair.
TURN ON THE SOUND. YOU CAN'T MISS THIS. THIS IS FANTASTIC.
I'm sure this is a thing that exists, but like. Love and appreciation for poorly built robots.
Robots with cheap, shitty plastic casing that they stick together with tape or replace with whatever they can find
Robots with batteries who's ability to hold charge has diminished over time, leaving them always kind of exhausted or burnt out, spending a lot of time at home so they can plug in and recharge whenever they need
Robots that always smell a little of dust and burnt out wires and are constantly replacing their insides to stay functional.
Robots who's speakers are muffled and staticky because they were built to last only a couple years and weren't designed to be easily replaced.
Robots with busted screens that make it difficult or impossible for them to emote as they'd like to.
Robots fighting planned obsolescence even as it was designed into them.
This is the funniest fucking thing I’ve ever seen.
Perfect example of an untranslatable joke. 😂
this post is fearmongering. the results of this study are concerning and should definitely be a matter of public discussion, but this is certainly not the conclusion the researchers came to.
the point of the study was to assess the risks of exposure to toxic metals- something one of the co-authors notes are “ubiquitous” fwiw- via menstrual products. Their research confirmed that these metals are indeed present in tampons, but no further conclusions are drawn. it is possible the metal entered into the cotton from the soil, which is a well-known phenomenon; cotton is so good at lifting heavy metals that it has actually been suggested as a part of the solution for revitalizing polluted ground.
the authors conclude with an acknowledgement that the study should be repeated- their sample size was 60 tampons- and a suggestion that further testing ought to be done to indicate whether or not these metals can even leech out of the tampon in the first place, let alone whether or not such leeching could occur at levels deleterious to human health.
there is, in fact, a body of research- too small, for sure, but much larger than this single study- indicating that long-term proper tampon use has no observable negative impact on health. i am grateful and thrilled that more research is being done and i hope that this study is the first of many on this line of questioning, but i am really frustrated at this post and the response it got.
obviously, if this study alters your approach to menstrual health, more power to you. consumers should be informed-risk-takers, and menstrual health is double-obviously a very personal choice. but it definitely wasn't the researchers concluding that you ought to “avoid using tampons at all cost," only this tumblr user did. the lead author of the paper, in fact, specifically says that she hopes people do NOT panic about the results.
(the notes of the post were disappointing. people affirming that they knew they were right to be suspicious of tampons all along, or even recommending alternatives that actually have very little to no research regarding the safety of long-term use, etc. it’s a different conversation, but categorical distrust of tampons is old-school misogyny. you certainly shouldn't wear them if you don’t want to, but there is nothing inherently scary or wrong about them, and people who prefer them are not being reckless or crass.)
((if you're really worried about exposure to heavy metals, you may want to turn a critical eye to fast fashion, as an aside))
I think the biggest issue when it comes to arguing whether or not someone having low/no empathy means they're a bad person is that we need to let go of the idea that there is such a thing as a good or bad person
I'm autistic. I am hypo-empathetic. I could construct long, compelling arguments on why that doesn't automatically equal to me being a bad person. I could justify it by bringing up my ability to be sympathetic and compassionate instead. I could list off every good deed I've ever done in my life, regardless of what motivated me at the time. Ultimately though I don't think any of that matters nor does it do the discussion at hand any justice when it comes to actually getting people to stop demonizing lack of empathy.
Because yes, it is unhelpful and problematic to attach morality to something you cannot control, but more than that the larger issue here is the way that we as a society strive to be morally good at all times despite the "goodness" we so desperately chase after having no singular, solid definition. The labels "good" and "bad" are so arbitrary and constantly shifting that realistically it becomes impossible to be completely morally pure, regardless of your ability, or lack thereof, to feel for others.
I am not a bad person, but I am also not a good one. I am simply a person, and as is everyone else. It's just pointless to argue anything else.

Staff have done their best to hide this post, OP's blog has been deleted to hide it. Spread this post as much as you can (ideally through screenshots to avoid it being nuked)
Captions shouldn't be censored. If the video says fuck or cum or cunt the captions should say the fucking word.
Unless it's a slur! No one needs to see that.
If they say a slur in the video, the captions should reflect it. The disabled are not little babies who have to have life sanitized for them.
okay but I feel like ur forgetting that slurs don't just apply to the disabled... children don't need to be seeing the n-word or other racial slurs??
but children DO need to be hearing it? are you actually reading the post here?
Here's how it works when subtitles are done properly:
Audio: Let's BEEP go! Subtitle: Let's (censor tone) go!
Audio: Let's fucking go! Subtitle: Let's fucking go!
Removing swears and slurs from the subtitles without removing it from the audio is implying that deaf/HoH people need babying, unlike their hearing friends and family sitting right next to them. Which is frustrating.
The point of subtitles is to give the same experience to everyone watching, regardless of ability—not to be a more palatable version of what's being said.
The purpose of subtitles/captions is to be accurate, that's all.

"In recent years, there has been a rush on the internet to supply image descriptions and to call out those who don’t. This may be an example of community accountability at work, but it’s striking to observe that those doing the most fierce calling out or correcting are sighted people. Such efforts are largely self-defeating. I cannot count the times I’ve stopped reading a video transcript because it started with a dense word picture. Even if a description is short and well done, I often wish there were no description at all. Get to the point, already! How ironic that striving after access can actually create a barrier. When I pointed this out during one of my seminars, a participant made us all laugh by doing a parody: “Mary is wearing a green, blue, and red striped shirt; every fourth stripe also has a purple dot the size of a pea in it, and there are forty-seven stripes—”
“You’re killing me,” I said. “I can’t take any more of that!”
Now serious, she said it was clear to her that none of that stuff about Mary’s clothes mattered, at least if her clothes weren’t the point. What mattered most about the image was that Mary was holding her diploma and smiling. “But,” she wondered, “do I say, Mary has a huge smile on her face as she shows her diploma or Mary has an exuberant smile or showing her teeth in a smile and her eyes are crinkled at the edges?”
It’s simple. Mary has a huge smile on her face is the best one. It’s the don’t-second-guess-yourself option."

I love going viral on tumblr.com. It’s like if you stood in a field and said some of the stupidest shit a human being is capable of and then like fifty thousand crows attacked you

thank you as always for the support and compliments on our new july-exclusive merch!! please take these close ups as a sign of my gratitude uwu
much like last year's postcard, i sculpted little figures and painted over them to get a nice 3D effect. i got really lucky with the lighting by the time i finished the bases lmao. the poster is ofc a reference to norman rockwell's triple self portrait so i was trying a more textured painting style. i'm really happy with how it came out! also ya bobby wasn't from this past year but this rejected plush idea was
happy drawfee calendar year! and please look forward to our most unhinged merch yet in this coming year! there are some whack coals on the fire
