I love VoE for returning the Commander to being so hypercompetent and yet so ridiculous. They have killed dragons, gods, demons, and titans. They have been voluntold to lead the journey to Castora. They're asleep on the boat except for when they're fighting monsters or grabbing raw magic out of the air with their bare hands, and they'd rather have been asleep the whole time, thanks. They know enough golemancy to hack the Inquest servers but not enough to keep their own golem from catching fire. They command immense respect from the main villain. They're being lectured on skimmer subspecies by a guy who lives in a wooden hut. They know instinctively what seer magic feels like. They are eating hot wings, pirate beer, and the crumbs out of an Inquest flunky's lunch box. They are on a first-name basis with the unfathomably-powerful last remaining survivor of an ancient race, and they cannot get him to answer his fucking phone.

"why can't gw2 writing be good?" it is good his name is braham eirsson and he has one of the most compelling character arcs i have ever seen, especially his relationship with the Commander, but y'all can't appreciate what you have because it's a big brown boy. fuck off.

actually i'm not done yet when we meet Braham he's a teenager under the age of majority. Not in his 20s, not even 18, at most he's 17 although he reads as 15-almost-16 (evidenced how he's about the same maturity as Taimi who is confirmed 16 at the end of HoT). He's a minor, he's a boy. He doesn't even have facial hair, and you know it's a cultural norm for adult norn men to have facial hair.

Not only is he faced with being perceived as an adult because norn are physically larger, he's been put through the same adultification that IRL brown boys and teenagers face every day by the fandom (and even some of the characters - just after her introduction, Logan instantly assumed that Braham was adult enough to watch after the obviously teenaged Taimi when they're the same fucking age). That adultification is why brown boys are one of the most vulnerable populations to police violence and often get batshit insane prison sentences for normal teenager shenanigans while their white peers maybe get fined and have to do community service.

His actions are treated by the fandom with the same gravitas as a fully mature adult even though by all accounts he probably couldn't even get an American drivers license! If Braham were a real life brown teenager the majority of the fandom would've called the cops on him for 'loitering' and then said he deserved to be shot, maced, and serve five years in an adult prison for it! It's insidious!

Unlearn your racism, learn to value black and brown people across all walks of existence, and fucking APOLOGIZE to my sweet boy Braham Eirsson.

guild wars is an insane setting because it's a normal fantasy world but also the closest elf analogue that exists is humanity. what people would at first glance assume to be ""elves"" are actually just vaguely humanoid plant monsters made to serve an unbelievably ancient god-dragon that's also a living jungle and also all of the plant people are at maximum 25 years old because their entire species are basically collectively babies in terms of how long they've existed in-universe. also the orcs are giant cat people. the gnomes are rats. the dwarves are normal but also they're steadily going extinct and also all living rock people now. nobody even knows what a horse is

one time an absentee cat father jumped into a portal to the nebulous mindfuck dimension that awaits between the bounds of reality and time and space and whatnot and then he came back like half a year later with inexplicable superpowers and nobody knows how or why this happened. nobody even has a firm grasp on what his superpowers even are. he just has them now. and everyone's just kinda moved on from it. but i haven't moved on. i remember.

It’s kind of unfair to call him an absent father, given that the cat society doesn’t have familial relationships. Instead, their main social units are a D&D party sized group of whichever children decided to be friends in the school playground. If your unit dies, even in war which the cat society is entirely built around, your social standing plummets to the worst it can possibly be
