have i mentioned how much i hate when map completion is locked behind events? let alone a fucking META
So like i'm catching up on story with vie and I wanna complete the second map but OH NOOO I gotta do an event! Rage. Rage. I'm already feeling suffocated with the underwater pathways. Because. Fun fact! I feel like I can't breathe while Vie is swimming through those when there's no clear path out. It's fucking. Great. I love it so. Much.
These maps are super pretty but I am excessively annoyed.

Man one thing I love about the Guild Wars series is that Humans are actually interesting. Like in most high fantasy settings with magical races, humans are just kinda there as a footnote. They’re kinda just there because it’s expected. When you look at their lore and culture in the wider world fantasy humans are kinda just… nothingburger. The Guild Wars series is legitimately the only series I know of where Humans have an actual presence with interesting lore. Guild Wars Humans they could never make me hate you.
really difficult to convey to some people that you are absolutely allowed to dislike a character, but you should also pay attention to and understand why the POC character or woman is disproportionately targeted by fandom (for, often, innocuous reasons)
June 9 Dev Stream Summary
Confirmed Arenanet will be starting development on the next expansion for GW2 next year, but the details won’t be announced or revealed until after the launch of GW3 (they didn't specify whether they meant the beta or the 1.0). The aim is to return to an annual cadence for GW2 like what we’ve seen with SoTO, JW, & VoE
The announcement of GW3 has made an overall positive impact on the population of the game. Since the announcement on Friday they've seen a 40% increase in daily active users. VoE set a record with returning players (accounts with no log-ins for a year or more) and this weekend beat that by almost 2x (Saturday was the single best day for new player acquisition since the Steam launch). So the population is very healthy despite some community concerns about player migration.
happy wintersday have the cucked by trahearne forum post that i retyped from screenshots
It was the winter of 2017. I wanted to get my girlfriend into GW2, so I decided to give her HoT & PoF as a Christmas present. If she got hooked, we’d have an extra in our raid roster, if not, I’d have one more account. Win-win.
When she got to the character creation screen, I advised her against making an Asura or Sylvari for obvious reasons. After she had a look at the Charr and proclaimed them as “cute”, making a furry joke, I quickly told her that race was kitten as well. She liked the female Norn hairstyles but i told her how huge they were and she finally picked a human.
And hour later, she had created her character. Thus, we started our adventure in Tyria. I tried not to tell her how clumsy she was, but the way she moved her character and the skills she used (frigging Point Blank Shot!!!) screamed “noob”. Under my tutelage, however, she became somewhat competent. The most annoying part was the huge amount of time she took to read everything. It’s not like that she couldn’t read fast. She insisted to read -every- bit of text she stumbled upon. All the options in the chat boxes… All the torn pages and random kitten… Taking five minutes to decide which option to pick whenever the story branched. I had to get the chrono i was leveling ready for raiding and we eventually split up, so I could level faster.
Then, one evening, as I was trying my chrono in T1, it happened. The beginning of the bitter end.
“This guy looks interesting.”
I had to focus on my game, didn’t ask her who she meant, so was pretty disturbed to find her playing a Sylvari a few days later and telling me that… She wanted to play the Sylvari PS in order to learn more about that lousy Twigger! I asked her how she can even stand hearing him speak, his voice being as flat and wooden as a plank. “But it feels just as solid, smooth and… hard.” I rolled my eyes and tried to remedy that by telling her Tybald died because Trahearne was incompetent, and it should have been the twig sacrificing himself instead of our mentor.
“But that was Tybalt’s moment, his chance to make things right and become a hero! He said so himself! And it was that commander Charr’s fault for not listening to the two of us and Traheaaaaarne.”
…
In the following days, I had to endure squeals like “Oh, he’s so shy and embarrassed to talk to the girl, how cute!” and “He’s both so creepy and cute!” Just… writing this hurts almost as much as it hurt hearing it. I found the traitor who had told her she could get more Trahearne if she played sylvari and kicked him from the guild. But worse was yet to come. She got in a horrible mood when she reached HoT, started pulling all-nighters. My girlfriend, who’d barely touched a game before and got grumpy if she missed even a few minutes sleep! I found her asleep on her desk once, her character in fort trinity kneeling before you-know-who, and a fanart of him opened in her browser! Enough was enough! We had to talk!
The next day I asked her where she was in the story, she was nearing the end of HoT. I did my best to be supportive. I consoled her about and even tried to calm her down and told her “It’s going to be fine, the ending is very good” when she started whining about Treehare. She calmed down a bit and a few nights of great sex followed. I’d call it the best sex I’ve ever had, if I know now didn’t make me retch at the mere thought of it.
It was only right that I insisted on us doing “Hearts and Minds” together. I was about to have my revenge, my moment of glory. As I cackled maniacally during the grand finale, I suddenly realized she was gone. She spent three hours crying in the bathroom, and no amount of consoling worked. My claim that my laugh was one of frustration and not of triumph didn’t fly. She was unberable for the next two weeks, puffy-eyed, snotty, messy hair, always whining. The last straw, however, was when I saw her one day lying naked in bed with headphones on in a very compromising position. That’s how I found she had used my credit card to buy all of the kitten novels narrated by Matthew Brenher. I threw her out, naked as she was.
Forget about stealing Saladbowl, personal story and all the glory in GW2. Trahearne stole my girlfriend, stole my car (why did I even buy it under her name?!?) and drained my bank account IRL.
I blocked her number, blocked her on every single social media account I had, on every single forum. I stopped going anywhere near the Mystic Forge in LA, got a panic attack every time i saw that mini and eventually had to uninstall the game. And yet, a few days ago, one final punch in the gut came when i got the message: “Remember the most wonderful sex we had? Do you know why that was? I imagined you were Trahearne.”

one of the many things I'm excited about re gw3 is the nature of it being a prequel and all the free extra depth that comes from that.
you're a vaelwarden, a protector of the people and spirits of orr. all the good your vaelwarden does, all the happy things that happen to them are going to be underpinned by these bittersweet, tragic feelings of "but in the end it was all for nothing". and maybe some people dont like that, but I think getting to see orr have it's fleeting time on tyria is like. awesome. maybe the vaelwarden will love orr and put their entire soul into caring for it all. and one day it'll all come crashing down and sink to the bottom of the ocean.
I could go on about how that the temporary nature of all that good ultimately not meaning much is very. life. that's life. and it still matters even if it all vanished. it matters because it vanished. but then its also what happens in gw2 that gives it so much meaning to me.
sure, everything your vaelwarden achieves is temporary, maybe nothing much in the grand scheme of things. but like 1300+ years into the future after everything you worked for was destroyed, someone who has never known you and your story will come along and be so dedicated to reviving the land that you loved and making it something new and cared for once again. some guy, part of a race you could have never conceived of, will rally the collective effort of the world for the sake of removing the rot and filth from this ruin that was so long forgotten. that legacy will encourage a whole new generation of adventurous spirits to flock to this place because they see hope and potential in what it could become with some care. they carry on your work in a new way.
the will of determined people echoing throughout the centuries. an unseen line between then and now.
thats just so awesome to me.
no you do not need to hold fictional characters "accountable". they are not real.
It's me, arenanet. Tumblr user Countryhorror. I come before you today humbled, and humiliated, to ask you for one thing. I need you to make humans the one unplayable race in gw3 it would be so fucking funny.
OP YOUR MIND
I heard another video game is coming out soon
this has to stop
REALLY funny thing about Guild Wars 3 given the trailer and news blogs.
So it's over 1,000 years before GW1, and Abaddon is still there given the trailer embroidery.
Guild Wars 3 is Before Exodus.
The first Guild War was 100 AE.
We yet again have another Guild Wars game that does not take place during The Titular Guild Wars.
hey i forgot i had a riannoc clone

Anet will have to pry gw2 from my cold desd hands.
Happy June and happy Pride, everyone! If there's any month where I actually make my announcement post on time, this is the one to do it - next Saturday (June 6th) will be the first Saturday of a new month, which means it's time for another art party hosted by my guild, [VS] Verdant Shield!
For those not familiar, art parties are a concept carried over from Final Fantasy XIV: in-game get-togethers for artists of all kinds to hang out, chat, and create together! For GW2 parties there’s more of an emphasis on hanging out and gathering references during the party itself, and then in the days/weeks following to work on your creations at your own pace and then post to the shared art party tag. We’ve used the same one (#VSArtParty) since the very beginning so you can go allll the way back and explore what people have made! The most important thing to keep in mind though is this: the ‘goal’ of an art party isn’t to be drawn, but to draw others, and share with the community!
Time and /squadjoin information is below the cut, but will also be posted again on the day of the party as squads go up!
Thinking about icebrood saga again. Imagine if instead of portraying primordus champion Braham as aggressive, irrational, and incoherent (what the actual fuck were they thinking), they wrote him as being uniquely suited to be the champion of primordus because he had come to terms with all the things that made him lash out and act impulsively in the past and therefore made him capable of withstanding and guiding primordus's rage toward jormag alone, staying rational, not letting the flood of emotion control him, and containing the damage done by the elder dragon. It would have also made him a MUCH better narrative foil to ryland.
