From the Dreamworks TV Instagram account, some really sweet messages from the characters and their VA’s ♥️
Completely forgot I drew this. Benji fans, eat your hearts out.
On a more serious note, @neunhofferart did some beautiful boards of this deeply emotional and vulnerable moment between Ben and Kenji in episode 7 of the last season.

To say I’m so honored is an understatement!! Queer representation in kids/family media is so important. The ability to see ourselves as just another part of the world, to see our complicated feelings validated in the same way as our nonqueer peers is so powerful for kids. ❤️

Did the Writer's know Ben's status--dead/alive while creating the last few episodes (i.e. 406-409)?
I mean, for the most part. I think the decision whether to actually kill him or not was in flux for a lot of the time, almost down to the wire -- at least for writing -- but I mean, we were the ones discussing whether or not to do it... it was our decision (and by our, I do mean that Bethany and Scott had the FINAL FINAL FINAL say). So. Yeah. But we flip-flopped on it for a while.
For my two cents, I fought back on killing him (which, if you knew me as a writer, would have been very surprising). I didn't think killing him actually fit in with what we were trying to say with the show. It didn't feel tonally correct for me for us to kill him. To put the characters through his potential death? To put you all through his potential death? ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY. But to actually kill him, for me, felt like a step in the wrong direction. I know some of you think we should have just done it, but to me... the death of a character needs to be absolutely in-line with the core message of the show. And the core message of Chaos Theory was ultimately one of hope and perseverance. To kill him so late in the game would have flown in the face of that so much.
Is it time for memes I drew while working on season 4? (I'm sorry.)
God the cut scene where Kenji raps and shakes his butt at dying Ben to try and cheer him up.... (We are not joking-- I drew that part and it got understandably got cut for tonal reasons andjjdjdnd)
But oh man did everybody draw so many dying Ben memes sjdjfjfjf
No gifs yet because I just got back from Japan yesterday and I have a holiday market I had to prep for tomorrow, but you guys wanna see a little preview of some of my Jurassic World Chaos Theory Season 4 episode 7 storyboards that got changed a bit in final? 👀
Yeah you do~
The script for this scene originally read "Ben suddenly tries to hug Kenji. But, adorably, he can only grab Kenji's arm (similar to the campfire scene in JWCC)." (Thanks Rocket ehe. I took this description and ran a marathon with it).
So yeah the scene between Ben and Kenji used to be even more... uh... WELL~
I took the time to match up this particular shot and everything:
Ahh I love drawing crying people.
A lot of the dialogue remained the same I think, and the general acting (I tended to push my acting a bit farther than I knew the CG could go)-- it was mostly the staging set up that got changed.
I assume it might have been more of a problem for the animators to deal with if he had been clinging to Kenji for dear life almost the entire conversation haha.
I'm saving the REST of this scene for my full gif set posts, but here's one last bonus I added that DID make it in:
One of the frames I redrew for a Yasammy frame by frame project thing :O
Ben, shut up…
Storyboards that I did for Season 4, Episode 8 - "Lights Out" of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory. Ben & Kenji experience another harrowing experience in the hyperloop pod just after narrowly escaping the gang of Dilophosauruses. The power shuts down and the Dilophs continue to stalk them.

What do you even do in a situation like this? One of your best friends is bleeding out, he's fading fast, and the vehicle you're in shits out on you. The cherry on top is a gang of Dilophosauruses that you just escaped from is trying to break into your car and jump you again.
There's a lot of stress, tension, concern, and most importantly: care, in these sections of the story. A lot of my technical focus was set on pacing as I put together the first half of these boards. The ramming sound of the Dilfosaurs that are trying to find a way into the hyperloop pod were a great chance to use measured cadence to motivate my cuts and ramp up the intensity. It's something that I had been thinking about a lot at the time of boarding this - how sound and pacing can affect the emotion of a sequence; this section presented an effective opportunity to use those two elements to amplify Ben and Kenji's sense of danger regarding the "invisible" threat on the other side of the hyperloop pod's walls and increase tension via the unseen.
These sequences are emotionally tough, because we come to care so much about these characters and sometimes a story script may present us with the question: "we have to hurt them right now, but how do we show their hurt in a believable way that connects with an audience for the sake of the story?" It can be tough. Everyone approaches these questions differently, but I personally search my experiences and memories for these answers. I dig through emotions to see where the truth is. When done well, we can give even the most harrowing experiences new life in a way that facilitates humanity and growth through art and story.
Team 2 was lights out with this episode. Very grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this episode alongside incredible story artists Jeffrey Chang, Jiedi Chen @tio-trile, and Ben Holm as we worked off of Annie Arjarasumpun's amazing script. Also please note how beautifully crafted the hyperloop pod's 3D model is by our Visual Development artists. I believe this one was done by the skilled Mark Chac.
Thank you for watching Chaos Theory. I've read the posts to the crew, and it brings me joy to see how much love there is for the show. It's never over, really - or at least it doesn't have to be. Take them with you; they're part of your experiences now. Absorb their successes, learn from their mistakes, get attacked by dinosaurs. Cheers
