[★] ❝ Pictures, ❞ the Soldier
yawned, sitting up with a groan.
Truth be told, Ghosty spoke
descriptively about Dmitri
enough for Ren to visualise him –
but there was no way he would
admit that.
-♫- I want you to stop talking to my girl. “I just came to talk, chief.”
Dmitri pulls up a chair and sits without being invited to, still staring at the soldier with intent, grouchy eyes. He knows that his wishes aren’t going to be answered- This guy is obviously the kind that’s not going to stop doing anything on anyone’s orders, let alone Dmitri’s, and Annie’s not the kind of person to push people away. So there needs to be communication.
“So that maybe if you, I dunno, knew me at least a little, you’d have a little perspective on who Annie’s boyfriends actually are?” -♫-
The redhead continues to scowl, and reaches a hand out to poke at the lump beneath the covers. This is all kinds of inconvenient, honestly. He had expected the person on the other end of the number he had been texting to be… Livelier, somehow. More abrasive. Dmitri isn’t certain if he’s glad he miscalculated or now.
-♫- Dmitri bristles, his mouth twisting into a snarl and his fists clenching. He narrows his eyes and growls slightly.
“It’s Dmitri, thanks. Not.”
He pauses before forcing himself to relax, reflexively reaching up to smooth a hand over his greaser-esque hair. There is no reason to get riled up. Not yet, at least. He’s just here for a discussion. That’s it. No fighting words. ...Okay, but how did the Soldier know that he was Ghosty’s lousy- No, her lovely boyfriend?
“....How did you recognize me by sight, anyways?” -♫-
[★] He shook his head at
the mention of ‘business
reasons’ - whatever that
entailed. Somehow the
Soldier didn’t think the
stranger cared about his
wellbeing all too much.

He had expected the person on the other end of the number he had been texting to be... Livelier, somehow. More abrasive. Dmitri isn’t certain if he’s glad he miscalculated or now.
-♫ - “What, you think I’m here to fuckin’ baby you?”
A redheaded man growls, looking down at the Soldier under the blanket. He hadn’t expected this. He isn’t sure what he had expected, but it isn’t this; A hoarse voice groaning beneath blankets, not showing his face. The redhead curls his lip with contempt and grits his teeth together.
While Aster is out doing some errand that Dmitri had sent him on, the vanity anon paces the living room for a while, eyebrows furrowed, before walking over to Ghosty. He needs to talk to her.
Dm: Annie.
Gh: [She turns her eyes away from her book, smiling at him] Yes?
Dm: .....Where do you... Go... When you leave....?
Gh: ...? [She puts the book down slightly, frowning at his question] Out. To space... [She thought she had explained that to them already...?]
Dm: [He clenches his jaw, trying not to look... Confrontational.] And that's.... All.....
Gh: Uhmm... Yes? [He seems... Tense?] Sometimes I visit o-other people too before coming back...
Gh: F-friends. Some live far away, so I-I just visit them.
Dm: ..... [He takes a deep breath.] So... So who's the, um..... The "Winter Soldier"...?
Gh: ... [Now, she tenses a bit] H-His name is Ren. He's... A friend. [At least that's what she wants to believe, she isn't sure he considers her as such]
Dm: .... [He clears his throat.] I.... Look, I.... I don't... Want to lie to you, so I won't. I grabbed your phone to... Look something up, and saw.... Saw a text from... That guy, uh, and he.... [He clears his throat again.] Look, is he botherin' you.... Still?
Gh: ... [She isn't sure she is upset with him for grabbing her phone, she doesn't give much importance to it, but still she can't help but frown worriedly] He's always 'bothering' me, that's how he is. Wha-what did you see?
Dm: ....Those texts he sent you... Tryin' to... [He grits his teeth.] .....Has he done... Anything to you....?
Gh: Done... Anything? [She's slowly starting to understand why is this all about and... She can't help but blush. ] Li-like wha-what?
Dm: Like... Stuff he shouldn't do...
Gh: Like what?
Dm: Like sex, Annie!! [He runs his hand through his hair, flustered and irritated and nervous. He doesn't have a huge temper, but with his pride at stake and unsure if Annie is being taken advantage of, his inner anger is surfacing.]
Gh: ......,,, [She stays completely still, eyes widening with surprise at Dmitri's reaction. She's... She's never heard him actually yelling... Sure, with Aster, perhaps... But not at her... Not this way. She swallows, her heart throbbing quicker and louder. She wished she could lie or not say anything at all, but... If she didn't say anything now... Things would only get worse] N-not sex... I-I mean, we didn't... Do that, i-in a way....
Dm: ........ But it hasn't been nothing. [His throat is starting to tighten and burn. It's again. It's happening again. He's going to get left in the dust.]
Gh: .... [She takes a deep, shaky breath. She's trying to remain calm...] N-no.
Dm: [He looks down at his feet. Fuck. Fuck, it really is him. He's lousy. Lousy.]
Gh: .... I-It was... W-we were.... It's not his fault... I-I told him he could... [Her lips tremble and she looks down at her book] I-I'm sorry...
Dm: [His head whips up and he stares at her as if he had been slapped.] .... You.... You,,,,, [His voice wavers. He isn't sure if he's angry or just.... Empty.]
Gh: [She glances at him and meets with his stare, which just provokes her to look away again. Eyes water as her mind starts panicking, not knowing how to explain] I-I was co-confused... H-he called you and Aster 'lousy' a-and I told him you were not...
Dm: [He clenches his fist, voice hollow.] Well. You sure proved him wrong.
Gh: ...,,, D-Dmitri, I-I was just... T-trying to understand... [She can't keep the pressure inside and tears begin to leak from her eyes] We didn't have s-sex... H-he just kissed me a-and touched me... Bu-but that was all...,,
Dm: Oh, that was all. Good. Great. I.... I'm.... I need to go. I need. [Space. Air. A drink. Something. Anything. He turns away, shoulders shaking. Fuck. He's never enough, ever, never, and he'll always be left behind.]
Gh: ...N-no... W-wait, please! [She follows him and reaches to reach his shirt softly] I-I told him you were n-not lousy... A-and you're not! It was me w-who... Was confused.
Dm: .........
Gh: I-I... He sa-said I didn't know... What being 'turned on' felt like... A-and I explained it to him, but he said tha-that was n-not the way it worked a-and... [Her voice cuts and she has to take another breath to continue] A-and then I... Was confused and he offered 'help' a-and I agreed to it... [She looks up at him, lip trembling] Bu-but I was right! I d-do know y-you and Aster t-'turn me on' all the time...
Dm: ..... [Now he's just confused.] Wait... You.... Let him.... Touch you.... Why.....?
Gh: ..,,,,, H-he said he was g-going to show me how it re-really felt to be 'turned on' .... [She feels stupid, so stupid. It sounds stupid. She is stupid] I-I just wanted to kno-know if... If I was right... O-or not...,,
Dm: ..... [The guy was using her, and she doesn't even realize it. He is suddenly horribly angry.] What a bastard. [His fists clench even tighter, and his teeth press together.]
Gh: [She pales at his face and shakes her head] N-no! He a- asked me before doing a-anything! He-he's not a bad person...
Dm: He goaded you into it, though, didn't he?
Gh: M-maybe, but i-it was me w-who said it was okay...
Dm: ..... What am I supposed to do, then, Annie? [He runs his hand through his hair.] How am I not- Not supposed to take it personally? Not tell Aster? I can't keep this a secret from him. If he found out on his own, he'd... [He shakes his head, swallowing.] I love you, but I don't..... [He looks back at her.] I don't... Understand....
Gh: ... Y-you should n-not take it personally, I-- Tha-that was m-my problem... Not yours nor Aster's... [At the mention of Aster, she presses her lips together] I-I didn't want a-any of you to f-find out, because I-I knew y-you would get worried... A-and upset..,,,
Dm: That you- [He swallows.] That you.... Did this? Yeah. We'd be upset. But you know who else lies to their partners? People who are cheating on them. And I don't... I don't want to restrict you. I couldn't, it's... It's not my place, and I don't want you to be restricted, and I trust you, but... But.... This.... Is just..,,,
Gh: [ She sniffles and reaches to wipe away her tears, because her sight is getting blurred by them. She... Didn't want this to happen, she never lied... She just didn't tell them till now...] I-I'm not che-cheating... I-I'm not... I-I love you and A-Aster too..,,,
Dm: [He takes a deep breath.] .....I'm.... I need a while, okay? I'll... Be back. But I just.... Give me a little bit.... [He turns to start to shuffle out.]
Gh: [This time she lets him go, shaking on her spot] W-what a-about A-Aster?...
Dm: ..... You decide what to do with him.
Gh: ....... [So he's leaving her alone with him.... Okay. She nods mutely, looking down at her feet]
Dm: [He teleports out. Time to go to the bar....]
Gh: ... [She stands on her place for a moment, shaking in grief and shame. Tears don't stop falling, but nevertheless she returns to the couch to try and keep reading as she waits for the envy anon. Just... She needs to calm down...]
The door eventually opens and Aster walks in, toting grocery bags and whistling. He carries the bags to the kitchen, humming.
Gh: ... [She doesn't greet him when he walks in and swallows instead, wondering how... How to begin this. She's afraid, she know it. Because the book is trembling on her hands. Bu-but she knows she can't hide this anymore...] ... A-Aster?
As: .... [He pokes his head out of the kitchen, alarm in his eyes. She sounds.... Not good.] Annie?? You okay...?
Gh: .... [She looks at him and shakes her head] I-I need... T-to talk with you...
As: ....Okay.... [He looks around.] Did... Something happen to Dmitri....?
Gh: ....... H-he left so I-I could talk with you... [She swallows] C-could you sit, please? D-Dmitri... Was really upset...
As: ..... [He sits, frowning.]
Gh: ....,,,, [She stays quiet for a long time, trying to order her thoughts until she finally speaks] ... I-I did something ba-bad....
Gh: N-no.... I... [She takes a deep deep DEEP breath] I...I-I let someone else... Ki-kiss me a-and... Touch me.... [Her voice breaks, feeling the pressure again] ....A-and I didn't... Tell you a-anything,,,
As: ..... [It's like the atmosphere of the room physically grows colder.] What.
Gh: ,,,,,, [She shivers, trembling more violently] I-I needed to prove so-something he said... He-he said you and Dmitri were 'lousy' a-and that I didn't really know what 'turned on' felt like... A-and I got confused a-and he said he could he-help me feel it, s-so I let him... [Her hands clench tightly at her book, so much the pages wrinkle] ....... Bu-but he stopped when I-I said so a-and... We didn't do anything else...,,, Bu-but... Dmitri.... A-and I.... [Her voice breaks again and this time she keeps herself quiet, not daring to look at him]
As: Who.
Gh: ... W-who?
As: Who. Was it.
Gh: ....... [She looks up to study his face, unsure if she should tell him who was it]
As: [His face is.... Calm. Blank, almost.]
Gh: .... What... What will you do... I-if I tell you?
As: .... [He doesn't answer for a few moments.] I just want to know.
Gh: Why? W-why is it important?
As: .... [He swallows. This want is mechanical. The want for revenge. To tear off the hands that had touched his girl. He feels sick with the anger, the potent, instinctive rage of it.] It just is.
Gh: .... [She gives him a long and sad stare before shaking her head to the sides] I-it's not his fault...
As: It has- It has to be. I... [He shakes, fury turning his mind ugly, a whirl of jealousy and revenge.]
Gh: N-no, it's not! I-it's mine . [She lets the book fall flat to the floor] H-he didn't force me to anything! H-he didn't...! A-and... A-and I don't a-anybody else t-to get hurt be-because o-of me... I-It was not his fault...
As: But I...... [He rubs his head.] Why would you.... Why.....???
Gh: Be-because... Because I'm..-- I'm a fool. [She avoids to look at him. Not like she could see much before her tears] Be-because I-I doubted... Be-because I was curious too... Be-because I... [Because even after a long time, this human body confused her.]
As: ..... [His eyes soften slightly and he walks over to her.] You..... I..... I..... Forgive you, Annie, it's.... A mistake.... Yeah? Everyone makes them... [His instincts are fighting, screaming, but he ignores them. Revenge right now is pointless. He refuses to hurt her, and he doesn't know who would have done this...]
Gh: [She covers her face with her hands, trying to hide her shame and sorrow.] I-I didn't want a-anyone to get hurt o-or upset... That's... That's why I didn't... Sa-say anything... I-I'm sorry... I'm ve-very sorry...,,,
As: A-as long as you don't.... D-do it again.... And i-if you have.... Questions, Dmitri and I can... Can answer them, y'know....?
Gh: I-I won't... [She assures, placing down her hands, her eyes red] A-and I didn't... Ha-have questions be-before... [Not until someone else questioned what she knew was true] I-I have no que-questions now... [Her eyes move to meet his, full of regret] ...I-I'm sorry...
As: ..... Right.
Gh: ... [She doesn't say anything else, sobbing quietly and not looking at him just yet]
As: ....Did Dmitri say where he was going?
Gh: ... N-no....
As: ... [He needs to find out who this guy is.] Right... Okay.
Gh: ... [She stays quiet again before carefully standing up and walking away toward her room]
As: [He watches silently, shuddering as his jealousy bubbles inside of him.]
Gh: [She dares to look back for a split second and catches Aster's glance. She quickly looks away, entering the room and closing the door behind her. ]
He had let the TARDIS zero in on Ghosty's location. According to the ship, she -and her two paramours- were living together in a house not too far from their former employer's headquarters. He landed across the street, ready to reconnect with his friend. He was not expecting a young man to open the door. "Uh; hello."
Aster blinks once, then twice, scowling at the sight of this unfamiliar man at his door. Well, at /their/ door, “they” being himself, Dmitri, and Annie. He tugs at the hem of his sweatshirt and tucks his hands into the pockets, leaning on the doorframe.
“Well, coming just for myself is a reason, isn’t it?” The Doctor offered as innocently as he could. He didn’t know what Aster was getting at, but he wasn’t sure he liked it. “I simply wanted to visit Annie; we haven’t gotten to spend time together recently, and I didn’t even know she had such lovely men in her life. I wanted to see how things were going; I think that deserves a visit, don’t you?”
Aster relaxes slightly, nodding his head. Lovely men... He grins and shrugs his shoulders as he speaks.
“Yeah... Okay, yeah, that... Makes sense... Sorry, I just.... I mean, of course you’d want to visit her, she’s great...” He then sighs almost sadly. “Sorry she’s not here... I mean... I don’t know when she’ll be back, it could be a few hours, or a few days, or a few weeks...”
He rubs his shoulder, pressing his lips together.
“But we can call you when she gets back, if you want...”

He shook his head politely. “I doubt they’ll return to me, but that’s fine. I’ve had enough relationships to know how to move on.” Of course, that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt.
Dmitri takes the tray with him to the kitchen, whistling as he goes, and leaves Aster behind with the Doctor. The brown-haired anon stretches and leans back on the couch.
“So, Doctor... Any reason you wanted to visit Annie, or are you just here just... For no reason?”
Aster doesn’t mean to sound suspicious, however, as a creature of envy, it is rather hard-wired into him. His smile is friendly enough, however, despite the tone of his voice.

“Good question.” The Doctor nodded. “And if I had an answer, I’d tell you, honestly. But unfortunately, they flew off without a trace.” He shrugged at that, as if it were not at all a big deal that had left him very confused for quite a while.

The two of them both sort of pause and stare at him in unison. A kismesis-??? /He/ had had a kismesis??
"You had a kismesis??" Aster asks, brown eyes wide."That’s so cool… I mean, I guess humans can have kismesises, but I didn’t think it was that common."
Dmitri is starting to relax a little, as well, now that he’s not under the gun. At least his scowl has disappeared.
“It isn’t.” The Doctor replied calmly. “I’m not exactly human, you see.” Though he did feel a certain pride that they seemed to think he was. Take that Amelia.
“I suppose I still have one, technically.” He mused. Now that he wasn’t interviewing them, he was glad to be a conversationalist. “Somewhere out there at least. I haven’t seen them in a very long time.”

"Oh, sure! Annie and I met when I turned her into a snow leopard- Heh, wow, that was forever ago, but she makes such a cute snow leopard. And then we got to talking and stuff, and then a few, uh, magic anon things happened and she saved my life and it all just, like, snowballed."
He glances at Dmitri, who is looking at Aster with a glower.
"And, uh, Dmitri… And I…. Um…." He scratches the back of his head. "Sort of have a, uh, complicated…. History…. I mean, it’s, it’s cool now, it’s just all complicated anon, uh, stuff. Hah, we used to…. Uh, really not like each other." His mouth twitches slightly. "But then we became kismesises- that’s like, uh, a hate-partner sort of rivalry thing, but then Annie sort of helped us see the… The good in each other, so now we’re all just matesprites." He chooses to gloss over a few- or all -of the details.
He listened dutifully, nodding along with the things he remembered. Ghosty had been a very cure snow leopard. He could see how quickly things could snowball between them as well -on both sides.
“I wish things had gone that swimmingly with my former Kismesis.” The Doctor commented thoughtfully. “Then again, we didn’t have anyone near Ghosty’s calliber to help us. I’m glad it all worked out for you!” And he is. Genuinely, honestly glad. They have officially passed his inspection.

Have they? Aster’s eyes widen. Uh. Hm. Have they met?? Maybe. He has a horrible memory.
"Uhhh, I’m awesome!! Uh, yeah, things are… Swell up here in the Big… Uh… Some kind of fruit, right?"
"Apple," Dmitri mutters, rolling his eyes.
"Apple! Apple. Uh, yeah. And Annie’s great, too, she’s going on a bunch of trips around the universe and stuff because she likes to collect rocks. And Dmitri and I are trying to figure out how to be more, uh, human…"
He smirked at that. They seemed more or less human already, aside from the name forgetting and the mood swings. They probably passed for human better than he did.
“Keeping busy then? Good.” Settling into the sofa, eyeing them both. “So, Aster, you can tell me how you all met, can’t you?”
