They say, “Necessity is the mother of invention,” and today, I experienced it firsthand.
At work, I ran into a recurring issue. Whenever I needed to access a specific server, it required an OTP (One-Time Password) that’s sent to the headteacher’s mobile every time I logged in. While OTPs are fine for security, the hassle begins when you have to repeatedly call the head for the code!
It's annoying, especially when you need to access the server multiple times a day.
To make matters worse, frequent calls to the same number for OTPs can trigger suspicion with mobile operators, potentially leading to SIM blocking — which creates even bigger problems.
So, I took matters into my own hands — and after some digging, I found my solution.
At first, I thought something like an Auto Tab Reloader Chrome extension might do the trick. But none of the existing ones fit my needs exactly. That’s when I decided to build my own —
Introducing: SmartTab Re-loader — a Google Chrome Extension developed by me!
Key Features of SmartTab Re-loader:
✅ Pre-defined & Custom Timer Options
Choose from preset reload times (30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes) or set your own custom interval — flexible and user-friendly.
✅ Auto Reloads Inactive Tabs
If you're not actively working on a tab or your browser is minimized, SmartTab Re-loader will automatically refresh it in the background.
✅ No Reload on Active Tab
If you're actively using a tab (scrolling, clicking, moving your mouse), the extension will skip the reload — so your workflow stays uninterrupted.
To ensure your work runs smoothly while necessary refreshes happen quietly in the background.
Download SmartTab Re-loader here: Download Link
Open Chrome and go to: chrome://extensions
Enable Developer Mode (top-right corner)
Drag and drop the downloaded .zip folder into the Extensions page
Pin SmartTab Re-loader from the Extension manager
Go to any tab you want to auto-reload, and click the extension icon to set your timer
(A video tutorial is coming soon to make things even easier!)
Your support and encouragement are what keep me going.
Please keep me in your prayers so I can continue solving problems with simple, practical solutions.
