How do you take notes in nursing school? Do you bring your laptop? Do you use a binder? A notebook? Or do you have different note-taking methods for each subject/course?
As for me, i usually have a print out of the lectures. 4 slides/page, landscape, no borders. HAHA. yes, that specific. It’s the same for all courses. I don’t know but I feel like, I remember it better when I wrote it down on my print outs compared to typing it in on a laptop. Sometimes when the prof forgets to post the notes before class, I am kinda forced to type it down during lectures but I always transfer it on the print outs after. It’s weird but come exam time, I have this thing that I remember on which corner of a paper I wrote down that specific info regarding the question tho not 100% of the time but still it helped me a lot. And, I don’t use highlighters but I have a multi color pen system. lol. When i’m not lazy and feel like reading before the class (which seldom happens, haha) I always have the notes already printed and I write down extra info in Blue ink. So, during lectures I use Red ink to underline, put numbers, and if there’s this info that the prof said during lecture that I feel like was important, and Black ink for any extra things the prof said or I use Blue ink too if I didn’t read anything before the class. When I am reviewing the notes for exams I either use Green or Violet ink to put extra notes on my print outs that would help me remember, sort of memorize the stuff and like mnemonics. Lol, you know what, like I hate it when there’s a guest lecturer and they did not post the notes and instead have their own print outs that they give away and worst it’s either the 3 slides + note taking space on the side or the 6 slides per page. My brain just can’t process that. So yeah, that’s the student me. lol
I guess we have our own like, specific way of learning things but yeah that was what I found effective for me. One of my friends uses different colors of highlighters and each color has a specific meaning plus writing info down on print outs, there was one who types it first then transfer it on print outs and another one that writes it down first then re-write it in like a weird diagram form. So, I think, just do whatever you are comfortable of doing and what you are already used to. You for sure have a specific way of note taking that got you through all the courses before nursing. Just stick with that, but one tip that I want to share with you is have really good friends in nursing school. Why? they’re the best support system you’ll ever have. Me and my friends really helped each other a lot. As for us, we believe that 4 brains/note takers is better than one. You know, we share and compare notes, we study together and most specially have fun together. hahaLol, sorry for the word vomit. but yeah, I wish you all the best in nursing school.

hi kuya! pwde po ba lumipat ng ibang university if may incomplete as prelim and midterm?? naguguluhan po ksi ako. thank you
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I'm sorry again but i'm not sure with what you are asking. From which university are you from? And what do you mean when you said "incomplete" prelim and midterm? Like, hindi mo ba natapos then you dropped the course? =))
🍓Strawberry Marmalade🍓 Really happy that they were gone so fast and everyone from the unit liked it. 😁 #macaron
Uploading real sooon.
Really excited to share our travel v-log to everyone.
I remember you posting a black t shirt with zide zip. Is that from forever 21?
Yeah i bought it last year from forever 21. =))
Summer term's finally over! 😁✌🏻️ #HelloSummerVacay 🌴🏊🏻🚣🏻🌊🌴 #CohortB
And it’s finally booked.
2 months, 1 group paper, 1 group presentation, 3 school paper and 4 major exams to go. lol.
Because we’re done second year!
Study Hard, Drink Harder.
Well let's just say, I'm just a creepy person. lol And same, I started off with 5 courses last term and this term, I am only taking 3 courses cause I dropped the other 2. So I'm going to take summer classes. And btw, if however, I didn't get accepted, can I still use my non-academic requirements (immunization, criminal records, cpr training, mask fit, etc..) for my next application? Or do I still need to take a new one?
A creepy person?? Hahahaha! Don’t worry about it! It’s totally fine with me! Sorry to say this but, No you can’t use them again! Because the Criminal record, adult and child abuse check expires after a year! So you need a new one every year! Plus you can only apply after a specific time! Like based on what i’ve read! You need to get a copy after march 1 for fall intake and after sept 1 for winter intake! If you apply for the certificates before that dates you’ll need to get a new one!
CPR Training also expires after a year! On the guide for non academic requirements it said that you need to be “Certified by April 1, 2015 or later for both the Fall and Winter intakes as it must be valid for the entire academic year (April 2016)”. So yeah, if you get one for winter 2016 and you didn’t make it you’ll need a new one when you apply the following term.
With immunizations, you’re good after you completed everything! There’s just one exeption, the tuberculine test! I think it needs to be current so you need to get it a few months before you go in! Same with the dates above! You need to have the test done only after may1 for fall and after sept1 for winter.
So here’s what I did, it’s kind a expensive to get everything and after my first failed attempt I learned my lesson! So, i got the criminal record, adult and child abuse check first! Because they take about 2 to 5 weeks before you receive it! Then CPR, Mask Fit and the Tuberculin test (Plus I aslo got a new copy of my immunization records) i did after i received my acceptance letter! There’s a a month to month and a half leeway for completing the requirements! And you you can easily get schedules for the cpr, mask fit and the tuberculine test! =))
Good luck! =))
PS. can i know who you are? Haha! But it’s okay if you’re not comfortable! hahahaha! And if by chance you’re not an anon the next i’ll answer it privately! Haha 😁✌🏻️
Newest Flavor: Lemon Curd.
Nursing was really meant for you. And yeah, I know Philippines' school system. I am Filipino! Haha. Sorry I asked you too many questions. I was just so worried because I don't have A's yet. And this is my first year in University. I'm ashamed but as of now, my GPA is 2.75. -facepalm- but whatever. I'll take GPA boosters! I am really glad you answered all my questions. Thank you.
That’s so cool! How did you find me here? Maybe because of the tags? Hahaha! Don’t worry about it! That’s totally fine! You can ask me more if you want to! I do understand because I was in the same position way back! =))
You don’t need to be shy, I slacked off so hard too during my first 2 terms! I started summer 2011 with 5 courses! Haha and I ended up with a 3.0 GPA! After fall 2011 it was 3.10ish and it’s just after! that i realized that I really need to step up my game! Winter 2012 was when I started changing my approach to things! And yeah, just don’t lose hope It’s not yet late for you to pull that GPA up! At first I thought that there’s only a few people that took 3 years before they got in! But i was totally wrong! In one class that I had the prof asked us how many years did it took us to get in! close to half raised their hand when she said 3yrs and above! Another evidence to support this, is when they posted the schedule for labs! It was by student number and you can approximately tell by the student number what year did they started university! There’s a lot of peopl who have the same starting numbers as mine even lower! So don’t give up and try your very best!
Yeah, hard work really pays off bigtime! I look at it as 50% Destiny and 50% from my never say die/apply and apply until i get in attitude! I guess, if you really want something so bad, you’ll do everything it takes to get it! And I don’t have a plan B either! If i got rejected last year! I for sure will try again the 4th time! But as they say! The 3rd time’s the charm! Hahaha
So how many courses did you take all in all? And no. I am not planning to apply this fall because apparently, if I took summer classes, the earliest I can apply is on winter. And btw, did you apply for loans?
I maxed out the 60 credit hour limit. Remember they’re considering the last 60 credit you took. This is because I had some flushing of courses to do!
I’m sorry in advance, I know you won’t be interested on the next things that I would say but I really have that urge to tell my story. hahahahaMe and the admission office had a long history. And it took me 3 applications to get in. hahaha. Before my long explanation, please let me state 3 things.1. I already took nursing and I finished 3rd year in a different institution from a different country.
2. In the philippines let’s just say that the school system is only until grade 10, then you can go to any univ after. I was already 18 when we moved to wpg, I tried inquiring to a high school to enrol to grade 12 but then they told me since I was already in my 3rd year when I left my previous institution they can consider the first 2 years as grade 11 and grade 12.
3. I then got accepted to UofM. They did consider my first 2 years in nursing school as Grade 11 and 12. They also told me that they won’t be able credit the courses I already took before. So, if I want to go to nursing I need to start from scratch. I obliged and I entered as a U1 student. Here’s what happened next.
Summer 2012 (The first time I applied), I got a rejection letter. I kinda felt that i would be rejected that year because my GPA was 3.25, but I just need to hear it again from the admissions office for me to be able to easily accept it. hahaha. I then sent an emali to ask what my GPA is and what happened to my application. Here’s the reply I got.
I was surprised to see that my GPA was 3.0654, because I know based on aurora my cumulative GPA was 3.25. It was a WTF moment, because from the start it was very clear and it came from them that they won’t credit the courses. I was like, why would you include the grades of the courses you won’t credit to the computation of my GPA. I was furious and the next day I went to the admission office. They then told me that yes they won’t credit the courses but they’ll be considering the grades from my previous transcript. I don’t know what policy they got and i really don’t understand why they’re doing that, it’s just so stupid. The only explanation i got was it’s just the thing they’re doing since then. I then asked how did they compute my grades from my previous school. The process involves converting the grades to what they called “UofM Standards”. When the scores were converted, everything was a letter grade lower. I was disheartened and just left after. SUMMER 2013 (The second time I applied). I had high hopes because I know my GPA was competitive (3.56) and there’s only 6 credit hours left. but then…
The cutoff that year was 3.53. XD
SUMMER 2014 (3rd Application) I applied with 60 credit hours all from UOFM with a gpa of 3.65. That time I was 95% sure that i’m gonna be accepted. There’s just that 5% of what if the cut off went from 3.53 to 3.66 or above. hahahaha I though everything would go smoothly, but here comes the admission office agaaaaaiiiiiin presenting a major major road block. I won’t go into details but it’s something to do with the fact that I already took nursing before. That made me sleepless for almost 2 weeks. THEN FINALLY, AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS. I MADE IT.
So yeah, that’s the explanation why I maxed out the 60 credit hour limit. Sorry again for that long rant. I JUST HAD TO! hahahahaI almost forgot your second question. YES! I applied for loans. But only from the government. I just have too, I can’t finance the cost of everything even if i work. =)))
What was your GPA to get into the Faculty? And do you really need a lot of A's to get in?
My gpa was 3.65 when i applied last year! And the cutoff was 3.42! The cutoff was higher in 2013, i think it was 3.53. It all depends on the people who’ll be applying with you! They told us that 500ish people applied in our batch and as you know they only get 220 students. But i heard the admission process would be different this coming fall so i’m not sure how will that affect the GPA requirement! All i know is that there will be 2 intakes and everyone has a chance to apply twice/year than once/year before! There will be 110 students for fall and another 110 for winter! That’s just what i’ve heard from my professors. But i’m really not sure!
Don’t worry it’s not really all A’s! I got C+ on both anatomy and physiology! Hahaha! But that’s when the booster courses would come into play! =)) and also as you can see my GPA is between a B+(3.5) and an A(4). Plus the cut off last year was not even a B+ on average. Are you planning to apply this coming fall?.
Nutella + Cookies and Cream. A bakeshop in the future would be nice.
