I don’t even know what to say because today was so fucking beautiful it was unreal.
I’m watching Helena (1924) and while the plot is very strange (there are definitely… deviations from the iliad) and I can’t read the german in the title cards, the aesthetics are great:
the entire movie is 3 ½ hours long and nearly bankrupted the studio

Im on my second read, amd the way the duchess lured Tonino and Angelica away from home and kidnapped them is so creepy, like the whole thing with the books each was given. without black magic its honestly even creepier. Just the idea that someone watched these two children to know what would be an irresistible gift to them both and then writing the real life blue peeling hpuse into the story and instructions on how to find it, to lure them to some derelict location to abduct them. It’s just so elaborate and predatory. Not even getting into what they were in for at the hands of the duchess

A fairy ring is a naturally occurring ring of mushrooms. They are also known as pixie’s rings, faerie circles, or elf circles. The English believed that fairy rings were where fairies came to dance and celebrate, the mushrooms of the rings were used as stools for the fairies to recuperate during the evenings festivities.
