Making Time
When the doorbell rang Hadley had no intention to answer but soon after she heard someone calling her name and saying it was for her. It didn’t take long for her to realize they hadn’t even bothered to open the door themselves and so this visitor was still a surprise. Even more of one when she did open the door and saw Anthony standing there. Automatically she crossed her arms in front of her chest just in time for him to lean in and kiss her cheek.
“I’m busy so it’ll have to be quick,” Hadley answered as she turned on her heel and walked back into the foyer, expecting him to follow. She’d seen the flowers but she didn’t bother to comment on them. Not until a swell of jealously rolled up within her. “I don’t know if you recall but Avery moved out,” she found herself snapping before she could bother to think it through. It was a stupid thing to say since she was far past that but she was frustrated.
Anthony couldn’t help but to frown as she crossed her arms across her chest, a soft sigh escaping his lips when she said she was busy. “I can come back later?” He followed her into the foyer and shut the door behind them, his free hand coming up to rub the back of his neck at the awkwardness between them. “C’mon Hads...” Another sigh as he stepped towards her, holding out the flowers. “That’s not fair.” He knew his quick burning relationship with the former president was a sore spot for Hadley, but he had thought she had gotten over that jealousy long ago. He’d chosen her and stuck by her for a year now. He loved her. “Do you want me to go?”
