A Homeric warrior has an aged father who can't fight and a baby son who also can't fight, no matter how little sense that might make in the narrative timeline. There's only room for one generation of men in a family. So accessing full adult masculinity in Homer means one of two things: either your father is dead (Agamemnon, Menelaus, Diomedes, Orestes) or you've displaced him and pushed him into old age and out of the picture by coming into manhood (Achilles, Hector, Ajax, Odysseus himself).

Telemachus spends the first four books of the Odyssey trying to reach adulthood by figuring out of the first thing is true. And part of what book 24 does is to show you the effect of him not doing that, and what it means that his father's return has consigned him to continued boyhood. PLUS it puts the father-son relationships of Laertes and Odysseus and Odysseus and Telemachus up against the divine father-daughter relationship of Zeus and Athena.

They just lost one of their biggest talking points lmao. I’m relieved it’s gone though because it’s easily the worst part of TVL. Just a little upset too though because it’s in a series of events that lead to Lestat punting Armand off a roof like a football and he vanishes into the night and it makes me laugh so hard every time I read it.

Why does he hate Armand so much though? I’m so curious, because the trial was the thing he was bringing up against him. There has to be more there. A little anger makes sense, but this level is just weird.

(this is entirely headcanon/interpretation and i know that, i may be disproven at any point)

my read is that lestat is especially pissed at armand because although armand didn't "mindcock [lestat] off a cliff" he absolutely has passenger princess-ed while lestat drove his own life off a cliff. armand didn't force lestat to turn nicki, he didn't force lestat to cheat on nicki (exacerbating nicki's condition), and while the situation around nicki's death is...a lot, armand also didn't force lestat to participate in the matinee trial. lestat had majority or at least significant responsibility in all these events. but armand was there too, and he had some factor in them as well, and so as lestat deals with the consequences of those choices he places his anger for those choices on armand.

armand is kind of his pharmakos. he would put armand in the wickerman. he'd chain armand to a rock as appeasement for poseidon. on some level he knows that that's not fair, that the blame is not entirely armand's, but lestat hasn't hit the level of emotional awareness to consciously accept that yet. at least that's what makes sense to me about why lestat is so pissed at armand about nicki and claudia but refuses to elaborate other than "[insert name here] is dead and i'm mad at you about it".

I can understand why a lot of programs take a long time .... there's a lot to learn, and you want your professionals to be qualified. But that doesn't mean that you need to be wealthy to become a doctor.
