People who are passionate about their interests are, in general, very cool and engaging.
Today I went Christmas shopping for my daughter’s fiancé, who is into Dungeons and Dragons. I went to the local games store to browse, not really sure what I was looking for. The associate at the store was clearly a passionate gamer, with intimate knowledge of the products at the store since he uses them himself. He provided in-depth information on everything I asked about, and apologized a few times for going too in-depth. I told him not to apologize—he was extremely helpful and I found his passion extremely engaging. It’s not often one finds this sort of knowledge and passion in retail, let alone day-to-day life. Finding a present for my future son-in-law turned out to be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to seeing him open his presents.
Tonight I found myself watching YouTube videos about Windsor chairs and Chippendale arm chairs, and I am getting a similar vibe from these content creators—a genuine passion for the subject they are presenting. It’s inspirational and infectious. I’m now turning my chairs upside down, and removing the seats to see how they were constructed—are they period or late Victorian replicas? (this one is late Victorian/early 20th century)
I better not have any more G&Ts tonight since it’s only Thursday.
