Its clean, classic design blends the new garage with older surrounding farm buildings. The sandy driveway will eventually be paved with crushed stone.

An old well house still holds the well, but it also holds new pool equipment. Because the shed is right next to the pool, summer paraphernalia can be quickly stored out of sight at the end of the day. The birdhouse is one of dozens collected by Raymond Gomez that can be seen on every building on the property.

Houses Architects Live In, 1977
An experimental window turns from clear to opaque with the touch of a button. Within the next 10 years, window technologies like these will be commonplace.
The Not So Big House - A Blueprint for the Way We Really Live, 1998
The house of the future will feature art, craft, and design. We will make the house of the future uniquely our own, an expression of our true selves.

Blogger's note: Sadly, the future house does not go in that direction.
Intercepting the room's dominant vertical lines are the curved angles of the dining bank. Arranging furniture at an angle will soften a long, narrow room. The basically gray - with bright accents - color scheme includes the countertops and dining booth and table, and then continues up the stairs.

This long, narrow kitchen occupies space that is little more than a corridor. A strong color scheme helps adjust the balance, and a glossy painted floor rug defines the kitchen.

Stylish revision. Sleek steel tubing edges this deck giving it a contemporary look and drawing the eye to the triangular sitting areas. The redwood floorboards were screwed in place from underneath for a smooth, fastener-free finish.

Visiting preachers stayed in the 'prophet's chamber'. The tester bed still has its original bed hangings. Meals were prepared over an open hearth in the kitchen.

Just picked a few Fine Homebuilding magazines & was wondering how do you scan your books & magazines?
Good old fashioned scanning with a decent scanner. One picture at a time. Love Fine Homebuilding.

The textural contrast of walls, flooring and upholstery in this room gives life to the pale colours used. Trompe l'oeil stone walls and marble-topped table are countered by the more informal arrangement of armchairs and side tables. The neutral tones and the symmetry of the room's design give a classical appearance.
Color in Decoration, 1990
Beautifully painted trompe l'oeil swagged material and stonework cover the walls of this distinctive bathroom. The comparative warmth of the 'material' is offset by the deliberate cold, stone effect. The room itself was painted with artist's oil colour in two tones of buff, mixed with glaze and given a coat of polyurethane.

Lyn Le Grice designed these coordinating stencils for walls and festoon blinds. The blinds were stencilled with a delicate rose pattern, which was applied around the edges. When the blinds are pulled up, they form a pretty border across the top of the window. Photo by John Vere Brown.
