Mariko hadn’t expected that response – she’d half-expected a similar shutdown to Chie’s from the weird foreigner (looking at his legs, actually, was he wearing some kind of costume?) – but instead, he seemed almost interested. Which was weird. Marie wasn’t really sure what to make of that.

Before she could really react, though, she heard Chie and Rise from burst out from their hiding place – Chie was shouting something about unfairness, possibly in reaction to how differently Mariko was being treated. The ravenette glanced over her shoulder at her friends, frowning slightly – only to have the strange blond capture her attention again.

He spoke strangely. And then he was gone, sprinting away.

Somehow, Marie couldn’t quite leave him alone. Ignoring Chie and Rise, she trotted off the dock and took off after the strange boy, carefully picking her way over the terrain once she reached the forest.

❝ Oi! Honestly, it’s hard to go after you when you’re running in a place like this, you know!❞

Of course, she couldn’t even be sure he’d wanted her to follow, but she had a feeling. And the least he could do was have some consideration for the fact that Marie was barefoot.

[ Deep into the forest I ran, following the lengthy dirt path. I wait for her to catch up near the end of the path somewhat before continuing my sprint, ignoring her calls. ]

[ Quickly, I hide myself behind a sign in front of one of the icons of this island, a large tree. It takes only a couple of seconds for her figure to appear in my vision once more. I patiently await her next action. ]

Marie didn’t really get what sort of guys they were supposed to be looking for on the beach, anyway — but she’d been dragged into it by the others, and it was at least sort of fun. Nothing she’d do normally, anyway – so it was at least an experience.

Of course, the new target ended up appearing to be rather difficult. Mariko had to admit, she didn’t really get the fascination with foreign men — but it wasn’t like he was unattractive. After watching Chie get shut down rather bluntly, it was soon enough the ravenette’s own turn to take a stab at it.

“— Hey, you.”

Well, it wasn’t like Mariko had ever really been one for pleasantries anyway.

“Aren’t you with a group or something? You’re not alone, are you?”

“ Ch-Ch-Chie? ”

[ I do not understand why this girl is speaking to me, but the reason why is irrelevant at the moment. She’s not the one. ]

“ I am looking for a human. “

[ After her seemingly dumbfounded response, I dismissed her. ]

“ You are not the one. “

[ I sense the brunette’s immediate shock after my dismissal, followed by a strong feeling of sorrow. Strange how she took my words so terribly. She was the one who initiated the conversation, after all. ]

[ Soon after Chie stepped off the dock completely, I sensed... her. The one I’ve been looking for has set foot onto the dock and walked until she was approximately three feet behind me. I waited patiently for her to say something before I swiftly turned one hundred-eighty degrees to face her. ]

“ You... Are... “

[ Before I could look continue speaking, the brunette who had spoken to me before, along with somewhat shorter girl, ran out from the cover of a rock and stood at the end of the dock. ]

“ Initiating evasive maneuver. Confirmation must be made at a secure location. “

[ I sprinted past the girls and proceeded to quickly make my way into the forest. Hopefully, she won’t be too far behind me. ]

[ The ocean breeze flowing past me, the crashing waves making harsh contact with the shore, and lastly, my stump-like metal feet sinking into the thousands of grains of sand... According to many sources implanted into my data banks, this immediate area I am located in is a beach, a place many people may visit for recreational purposes. However, admiring the environment surrounding me is not my reason for coming here. ]

[ The presence of the ‘important life form’ who stirred my consciousness into awakening is in an undoubtedly close location, yet approaching them directly may prove to be an inappropriate option to greet them, as my robotic speech pattern may confuse them along with the potential surrounding humans. ]

[ As a result, I have devised a plan: Instead of me directly approaching them, I shall wait for them to approach me directly by themselves. By my choice, I decided to wait for them near the very end of the dock. All that's left to do is to simply hope that I catch their attention and wait for them to speak to me. ]
