He feels more than sees the looks the rest of the Gladers are giving him, and a distant part of him knows he should be here for them and take up the leading role right now, but he doesn’t move. He barely blinks, eyes still trained on the Doors in front of him, like looking away for just a moment would cement that moment in reality. Like until then, as long as he stays, there’s still a chance.

Just as Janson says to Thomas, they take special care of him. Keeping him and using his blood to create a cure for the flare. However, what Thomas doesn’t know is that Newt survived, and manages to get the serum in time. He, Mihno, Brenda, and the others fight to get him back, and save him from a life as a human blood bank. (Along the way however, they run into other familiar faces) While the others fight to save Thomas, he spirals in and out of the waking world as Teresa battles with her conscience.

AKA: AU where far too many people survive when they originally died, and Thomas is taken as a source for the cure. (Implied Minho/Newt/Thomas because I think they're cute together. It can be platonic or pre-slash.)

Thomas would like it on the record that this is not his fault.

Like, sure, it was his idea to buy a house that looked like someone had cut it from a poster for a horror movie, slapped it down onto some ancient burial ground, and then sold it to a family of maybe vampires who had a peculiar taste in interior design. And yes, he was the one who decided to take a module in Satire, thereby putting him in the same class as Janson, who- after a very painful group project- developed an obsession with Thomas. And okay, maybe he was the one who didn’t realise that Janson stole his phone so he could find out Thomas’s address and turn up uninvited at the most inconvenient of times.

Indeed, one could argue that Thomas is at fault for many things, most topical of which is the series of events that led to Janson being present at board game night as an uninvited guest that nobody could manage to get rid of. That’s on him; he knows it, he accepts it, he apologises for it.

But Janson lying dead on the bathroom floor? Not his fault.
