Sometimes Emma thinks she has stumbled into something inevitable. That everything in life has, and always will, lead her to this: Henry sitting on the counter, whisking strawberries into batter, his fingers stained with red juice; Regina at the stove with just-showered hair, air-drying and curling at the ends, pancakes golden brown when she flips them. The kitchen smells warm, like breakfast and family, and sometimes Emma can hardly believe that mornings like these, a happiness like this, belongs to her.
