The Periodic Table of Yahoo
Copper Sulfate/Aluminum/Reaction
When Copper Sulfate is dissolved in water, it turns a beautiful shade of blue. However, when a piece of Aluminum foil is dropped into that aqueous solution, interesting things begin to happen. And as you may have guess, these things relate to the interns experience at Yahoo.Â
Aluminum has a higher energy than Copper and therefore it out ranks it when making bonds. So when the Copper is bonded with the Sulfate, it is happy and stable. However, when Aluminum is placed in the solution, it âkicksâ out the Copper and the Aluminum will take over and bond with the Sulfate; then the Aluminum foil turns to Copper foil. You can see the Copper flakes begin to form, and then after about 15 minutes, itâs turned almost completely to Copper and the Aluminum Sulfate.
Like this reaction, as interns we come to Yahoo naĂŻve, confused, and overwhelmed. We are like the Aluminum foil and Yahoo is the Copper Sulfate. However, as the weeks go on, we begin to transform and become a part of the office and Yahooâs environment begins to change how we work. Not only does Yahoo change us, but we begin to wear off on Yahoo and turn their Copper Sulfate into Aluminum Sulfate. Although both compounds are still present, theyâve become something new because of their interactions with each other. We understand their culture and have adapted to it, but we have brought our own passion and uniqueness to the environment. We now make jokes with others and they make jokes with us. We have absolutely integrated into Yahoo.Â
As interns, we are almost done. Itâs hard to believe, but this experience has been absolutely incredible and the people we have met have influenced greatly.Â
